HISpanic. As in, the king's/queen's subjects on the other side of the glove. I'm fairly certain it's only new world, Spanish (sorta) speaking people considered "Hispanic". If you're European, born in Spain, you're "Spanish/Spaniard/Sephardic if Jewish most likely". I don't have a very hard time understanding Spain Spanish since Cuban Spanish is not as... creative as some south American countries, but that probably mostly because 99% of Tainos were "removed" from the planet and in other areas much bigger, where people could actually run away, they kept a lot of their original cultures and more mixed them with Spanish culture. There's semi-traditional curanderos/shamans in SA that apparently all have minimally a picture of JC or Catholic saints in their ritual places. Crucifixes, they don't even realize that that religion is 100% against how they do things and likely if it weren't 2025, they would go back to finish the job of cleaning up these dang, idol worshipping, drug taking, savages who dare to make their idol (a crucifix is a graven image, also are all those pictures of saints people pray to, they're technically also idols: ask a Christian about how they feel about Catholicism and praying to Mary.. even though they also technically pray to at least one graven image, idol, and what many would call a proffet but definitely neither God nor Mashiach.

The animated recent Spider-Man movies with the Puerto Rican Spider-Man (it all closely follows the comics. And yes there are that many spider men, from that many alternate universes) is actually amazing and does justice at having a Hispanic lead (of mixed heritage, so it hits harder for me still) and doesn't make a lazy, sloppy, job. Black panther was great because finally at least there was a black hero at all that had an actual good movie. Marvel does only a slightly better job than DC. Wonder Woman was a hot mess. Gwen though (spider woman) from the animated Spider-Man films (I only remember the name of the last one "Enter the Spider verse", I think..) is a good female hero even though not a lead, and Wanda from Wandavision/Avenger's is also pretty good (even though the fact she basically gets no repercussions for her craziness) as an actual lead.. Whoever is better for the job should do it. Period. Ability/performance over all else.

Alejandro Guerra

The original from the comics is good. This was just Marvel being lazy and poorly mixing different storylines. All these superheroes have a way better set up in the comics. DC has more than decent stuff in the comics too, but they screw it up consistently. Batman V Superman should and could have been amazing. It's definitely a thing in the comics that Batman can take pretty much every other hero in their version of the Avengers (every DC character has a matching Marvel character and so forth) it would have been great if they stuck to one comic or another, or just wrote a good movie...

Alejandro Guerra

She has full arguments for both positions. I'll tell her to explain in another video. But she is set on being Hispanic

Lenear Boyd

Also, being born of Latinos, I agree wifey is Hispanic. Latina is debatable but imo she is not. I am of the belief system that latinas are from “Latin America” aka Central and South America. It’s a hot topic of debate though lol

Rana

It was such a shit movie though. If they were going to pander to us, do it properly! That was my beef with the film. Like Mr.L’s wifey says in the beginning, it was boring. Painfully so. I personally was much more into DCs Birds of Prey and I don’t care for their superhero movies. I love to see badass women but captain marvel just fell way flat for me. So much that I am not even watching the reaction (sorry 🙃) cause I don’t want to watch it again.

Rana

"the difference is when people experience large energy discharge THEY DIE!"

Soul Fist

Excited for when your Endgame reaction comes out!

T-MagicInfinity

"Don't disrespect Queen Annie" "Because its 2024" I love it! SO funny

Mister_Bleak

thanks for doing these. I do enjoy this back and forth discussion thing you have going with your wife. Interesting to watch.

Mister_Bleak

Wow I really hit a nerve with someone I don't know or care about feeling the need to throw an insulting label at me. I mean Stark's character is deliberately shown, especially at the start, as being a stereotypical playboy who loves weapons that go boom, partying, and discarding women. He undergoes a lot of character development, but that's the entire point. If you don't think Iron Man kicking off with him having a one night stand with a woman, being gone in the morning and having his assistant meet her (and the clear implication he does this often) isn't disrespecting women then you are completely missing the entire point the writers were trying to shove down our throat. He's the stereotype x1000 meant to ensure no one can miss those traits. He does develop out of some of them, especially the disrespect towards women, but still retains the stereotypical male machismo attitude. For the record I'm fine with it. Movies like these are meant to be exaggerated and be entertaining. I don't mind it in the other direction too.

Matthew Langley

Lol okay White Knight, why do you say Tony Stark "drips" male sexism like that's a fact. A bit arrogant sure, but does he display misogynistic traits or disrespects women? Absolutely not

Slimsycentaur37

Wow your wife is so amazingly smart. I agree with her 100%. As an American man I don't think they oversold the woman power stuff like you did. I think the writing was just bad and the directing and flow of the movie was subpar. I really think your wife nailed it on the head when she was trying to explain to you that Carol could be powerful while being a woman, she didn't have to be a tomboy etc. Then you said you like Arya better and she pointed out she was a tomboy, then you pointed out your mom was a tomboy. There's a certain subset of men (I'll say American men since that's my context I know, it's probably true elsewhere but i don't know that) that have a really really hard time seeing anything powerful and overly focused on a woman or feminine that isn't essentially a woman "trying to be a man" or powerful how a man traditionally is. I feel you fall into this. Many of the powerful woman characters you seem to like are tomboys etc. When it comes to empowered women just being women you start to squirm it feels like. I feel like you can expand your perspectives a bit, be more open and less judgmental. Tony Stark can drip male sexism and you are mostly fine with it but then this movie comes along and a few little in your face moments (far fewer than any movie with Tony Stark and other male characters) and you brand the movie and look for any reason to make it fit that narrative. A little machismo is ok, a little woman power is ok too, embrace the variety of perspectives and people out there. I feel you are extremely open, except when it comes to this one blind spot and I think your wife was spot on.

Matthew Langley

I laughed out loud.

Mike MIchelsen

Exactly like that

Lenear Boyd

It was easier to overlook that stuff with Endgame. Because of everything that had led to that movie. If the overall story is good, I can forgive a lot🙂

gak9319

Yes, we must give it to him raw😂

gak9319

Shout out to Temple Grandin. That movie was legit amazing.

Scott Asher

MrL is gonna hate Endgame. Thor is guilty that he's a white man and Hulk insists on using We/Us pronouns. Groot is trans. Sorry for the Spoilers.

Scott Asher

P.s. "Roll like a croquette"??? Hahahahaha, like... The delicious fried food??

Mike MIchelsen

Dude, your wife is sharp as a razor. Good job for that pick. And she was absolutely dead on about Endgame. I can't wait. P.s. When you watch Wandavision(which directly leads into the next Dr Strange, which is fucking amazing), and Loki, maybe get her in on those reviews?

Mike MIchelsen

It's corporate virtue-signaling. Something that should be a good thing on the merits but the suits throw-away all nuance because they You to See what GOOD PEOPLE they are for doing The Thing... the thing they actually neither care-about nor understand, they just want you to consume product and get excited for next product.

Molly McAllister

Guys complaining about this is so silly. Is the movie catered for the female audience, yes. So what. At that point, the MCU had 20 movies primarily catered for the male audience, I'm sure many ladies have rolled their eyes at some of Tony Starks one liners and actions. I took my young nieces to see this movie and they enjoyed it and showed some extra enthusiasm to have a super hero they can more relate with. 10 years of watching MCU films with them at that point and it was the first MCU film with the female lead hero. After years of me growing up idolizing the Iron Man character it was nice to see them have a hero they could relate with. I grew up with Iron Man and War Machine action figures, imagine if you're a young boy and all the main action figures they sell were all female. Sure, by 2019 we had Black Widow, and The Wasp but none had their own movie. Is Captain Marvel in my top 10 MCU films? No. I'm i glad it exists? Yes, so that my nieces can enjoy watching a girl kick some ass and show them that one can stand back up after getting knocked down.

David Melo

In the comics she got her powers from a device called the "psyche-magnetron". It was created by the Kree to give abilities to humanoids. It was used on Carol to give her powers. It was later destroyed. I guess they didn't want to fully follow the comics so they came up with a different scenario based on the same kinda thing.

Keith Allen

I’ve worked in nursing for 11 years and I fully recommend people get jobs that are traditionally held by the other gender. I’ve learned more about women and came to understand them better at work than I ever have in my marriage or relationships. If more people branched out like that the inter gender understanding and empathy would skyrocket

David Nettles

Awesome commentary. Sounds like you two have a great dynamic. She should chime in more often if she’s willing.

Hugo J Stiglitz

You should watch Rings of power, its a show you would love. Really, you would. I'm not joking, honest. Really really honest. Do you know why a boat floats and a rock sinks? I learned something new.

JC

I get that this movie isn't well fleshed-out or narratively outstanding. And def a rush job. But the weird reaction some people (not just men) have to stuff like that 'smile more' scene being 'propaganda' is just strange (btw I have actually seen some assholes do this. It happens quite a bit and it's fucking weird to see every time). The funny thing is that movies like this with a strong message of women "empowerment" usually go unnoticed by people who react as such. But when they do it like this in the mcu 'must watch this before endgame' kinda way, it forces these people to watch something they otherwise would never have watched and they polarise, which causes the opposite side to polarise and then you get into these stupid endless debates about a 2 hr movie about a woman who shoots lightbeams out of her hands and can bodyslam spaceships. Just the same cycle of BS that traps otherwise logical people into emotion driven outbursts and they start referencing fucking hitler and calling silly fantasy shit propaganda. The only positive thing stuff like this causes, is it makes some men act like their dicks are going to fall off if too many of them get made. Which is very funny to me. So yay, capt. Marvel!

Dave van der Kuyp

Nolan tries to bring that back....so do Scorsese

VitaminPete616

Shitty shitty movie. Movie was art in somepoint (70´-80´s

VitaminPete616

Doing the same lol

Alyssa Dyson

Your wife's reaction to this movie is part of current Disneys problem. This movie and several more by now, are supposed to be part of their plan to draw in more female viewers. But all they end up doing is driving their core audience away. People who where already into superheros😅

gak9319

"How did the Hulk become the Hulk" ...BOOM

matt Henning

i want to watch this before i watch the reaction lol

Samuel Avetisyan

the chats with your wife are great haha
