I'm just gonna say: what it did for female marvel fans+potential female marvel fans with the "I'm here cause it's cannon" power that marvel (disney) has is essentially a 1:1 to black panther and black american marvel fans as wel as black... every other country to some degree fans/potential fans. Buying marvel was probably one of the most well-timed power moves from disney in recent history.. The animated spiderman movies (Miles Moralez Spiderman 10/10 both, especially the second one) are better examples of more "for everyone" movies. Black panther, Captain Marvel, to some degree WandaVision, definitely she-hulk, moon knight to a degree, and probably Black Widow are targeted, cannon, gotta watch most of them to fully know what's happening in the "main arcs"... Di$ney is gonna kill it.

So how are you going to factor in Deadpool? Seeing as the first two aren’t part of the MCU and therefore don’t hold a place in the watch order, but Deadpool 3 is

I have to agree, I don't really see the propaganda like many others do. My main issue with this movie is that the character itself is very overpowered. In the end there is really nothing that can stop her. I get the rushed part. For me, Black Panther had the same issue. The end of that movie feels very rushed to me. All in all, near the bottom but for me not the worst. I actually liked Carol Danvers and Fury together.

A whole bunch of money thrown into bucket of political correctness. I wouldn’t mind these types of movies if they put as much effort into not making the agenda of it so obvious as they do the special effects??? That would be awesome.
But this gets tossed in the bucket along with the abomination of Ford’s Mach-E that I refuse to call a 🐎 and the Impossible Burger from Blunder King.

You might wanna check out Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. There's some discontinuity from the MCU, though it was originally intended to be cannon but film and t.v. schedules complicated continuity. Either way, it's an infinite multiverse. It lines up pretty close with MCU, if that matters.

So hey origins of her power.. in the comics, it happened slightly different. Mar-vel acted as a filter of the power of the explosion. And Carol also was enhanced by Mat-vel's abilities as well

I'm sure others have mentioned it but, while the movie was very "girl-power"y, i don't feel that makes it a bad movie. I feel like in many of the instances you were reaching to find another girl power moment that wasn't intended. In many instances of scoffing, i feel that if the individuals involved were simply seen as 2 people talking, you wouldn't have seen further into it. Don't get me wrong, i'm a man, i'm not particularly pro or anti "girl-power" per say, but you seemed to be reaching more often than not.

Studio Notes: really dark scenes require me to cover all your lights and most of your face, to see what's going on. Other Studio, more so. Would you consider more reds, during video play, or even a switch you could hit, manually, for dark scenes,.

I love this movie. It's the most persuasive piece of media to help sway you to my side that these films are trash.
Quote from director Martin Scorcese when asked about his negative comments towards Marvel films:
"they seem to me to be closer to theme parks than they are to movies as I've known and loved them throughout my life, and that in the end, I don't think they're cinema"
"cinema was (is) about revelation — aesthetic, emotional and spiritual revelation. It was about characters — the complexity of people and their contradictory and sometimes paradoxical natures, the way they can hurt one another and love one another and suddenly come face to face with themselves. It was about confronting the unexpected on the screen and in the life it dramatized and interpreted, and enlarging the sense of what was possible in the art form."

Captain Marvel is a very generic superhero movie, however I was a bit disappointed with the immediate eye-roll with the "female empowerment" scenes. I am a woman and am a feminist in the original sense of the word (not the weird "women are better" thing its become). I can't tell you how many times I've been called "honey", "sweetheart" and told to sit down, so those scenes really resonated for me.

I'll be honest. I feel the second there was any sort of the slightest pro-woman or sexist statement mentioned you were biased against this ever since. It's a bit interesting since in all the MCU stuff I've seen you react too theirs like testosterone stereotypes on overdrive in characters like Stark and Thor and a little but of woman centric stuff and you start to squirm and get so uncomfortable. I get it, you really dislike the "yay woman" stuff, I dislike some of that stuff too, I also hate religious zealotry having grown on it, but it's very easy to overcompensate and might I suggest you're overcompensating here. For example the men are in back and you say "taking a back seat" but don't think I've ever seen you say that when it's reversed. It could also be that the two women up front are pilots which has been a premise for most of the movie. Yes they are women too, but you focus on one aspect when presented by both. You say "the only good man, is an alien man", except Fury is also good, Coulson is also good, and her Kree warrior buddy is a bad alien man. You saw what you want to see to fit your agenda. A little bit of Stark overdose of machismo is fine from time to time (or even when were doused with it like we often are), the reverse is true as well. You might enjoy this type of content a little more if you open your mind a bit, so male centric sexist Stark is ok if made in good humor, some women centric jokes and content are ok too. At least that's my suggestion. I mean it's highly entertaining watching you squirm so maybe if you do it will sabotage my own entertainment. I do appreciate you wanting to get your wife's perspective though.
IMHO this movie was mediocre, not because of the woman "propaganda", just due to some of the writing and the flow, this landed around the time some pretty poor MCU movies started to land, this wasn't the only one unfortunately.

Captain Marvel is one of the old-school legacy characters from the comic books, Carol Danvers is I think the second character to carry that title in the comic books and Maria Rambeau if I recall takes up the mantle after her... there are a few others.
Captain Marvel doesn't have as much... how to put this... Cultural Penetration as characters like Iron Man, Hulk, or Spider Man because they were typically involved in the 'Cosmic' setting of the main Marvel Comic Universe.
In Marvel Comics you had three tiers of heroes.
Street level -Spider-Man is a good example of this, as are Daredevil and Luke Cage who you won't see in the movies but had their own pre-Disney streaming series. They deal with things from random street-thugs to city-level threats.
World level -The Avengers in-general could be considered as being at this level, dealing with multi-national if not 'threats to the planet' situations.
Cosmic level -Thor can sometimes be counted as the low-end of this, they deal with stuff like Thanos or a bunch of other things you haven't seen yet.
In the comic books the Cosmic level is a whole other thing, because in the comics they've had decades to build and flesh-out the universe and Earth is really kind of a backwater... a backwater with some occasionally interesting highlights.
The MCU of course has Earth as the center of everything because they have to compress all that into a series of 2-3 hour movies and bringing in too much of the Cosmic stuff would quickly overshadow what's going-on on the Earth.

The songs, as a 90s teenager Shirley Manson, Gwen Steffani, Courtney Love, great grunge female representation, but I got so mad when I was at the movies watching this, the songs felt so forced into the story, it was sad

Why can't someone watch Living Single, And Fresh Prince, And Friends? I know I did. And why can't two people with obvious history ask the stranger to leave during what will Obviously be a very personal conversation? And yes, obviously the Two Qualified Pilots belong in the front seats.
I know this movie get's a little heavy-handed with the girl-power stuff, but a lot of this stuff is just you seeing what you wanna see.

In the comic books the Skrull are long-established bad-guys, Ronan was... a Ronin, basically. a Kree Outlaw who broke with the Kree Empire over his extremist beliefs.
That the Skrull weren't villains, but victims, in this movie came as an interesting subversion of expectation to the Marvel-Nerds in the audience when this came out.

Normally I'm all down for 'you go girl' empowerment, but the problem is when corporate interests try to cash-in on it they completely abandon subtlety because they don't trust the audience to be able to pick-up on that. So, you get movies like this clumsily slapping you in the face with a halibut.

Definitely don't enjoy this movie at all but don't agree with the people saying after endgame it just sucks. Some of the best are still to come like GoTG 3, Loki, NWH, and even wandavision which I feel like will satisfy the cinematography side of Mrlboyd very much. Yes this movie is complete ass but also shouldn't stop you from watching the MCU since apart from the last two you've been enjoying it very much. Plus its only once a week so the ones who want to stop after endgame can just ignore it. After hearing the SDCC news this weekend I'd love for all of us to get to that next avengers movie together and caught up so we can continue the journey with each other.

Because this movie was sandwiched between two of the biggest MCU movies Infinity War and Endgame, this movie did quite well in the box office. But it started a divide in the fanndome, that continues to grow to this day🫣 The second one "The Marvels" was a complete dumpster fire all round😮💨
