HOD S2E3 FULL REACTION

A war with dragons is their equivalent of a nuclear war. Mutually assured destruction. The dude who laughs and says “a sword’s value is not in its scabbard” thinks the dragons are a mindless weapon that can be controlled. Viscerys warned Rhaenyra in season 1 that control of the dragons is an illusion.

2024-07-04 20:04:17 +0000 UTCI often see gray hair as greenish in some of these series.

2024-07-04 20:02:46 +0000 UTCThe King had also been introduced that day to Rhaenyra and Daemon’s baby boys, one named Aegon. So he might have been referring to the brand new Aegon as the Prince Who Was Promised. Too many Aegons, y’all.
Susan B
2024-07-04 20:01:15 +0000 UTCHe also apparently never appointed a Queen’s Guard specifically for Helena and the children. Somebody who would have been guarding them at all times, as you would expect for the King’s wife and heir. Did Cole deliberately ignore the need for a Queen’s Guard because the guard would have seen him going into Alicent’s chamber? Cole is the most messed-up person in the show. At least Daemon knows himself to be conscienceless.

2024-07-04 19:59:01 +0000 UTCThe blade, when heated, reveals to its holder this line in Old Valerian: “From my blood comes the Prince that was promised. His shall be the Song of Ice and Fire.”

2024-07-04 04:44:22 +0000 UTCAegon is also the name of one of Rhaenyra and Daemon’s twins. If only someone had named their kid Bob or Pete, all of this confusion would have been avoided.

2024-07-04 00:34:03 +0000 UTCRiding a horse that’s running takes some physical exertion by the rider! They are also out of breath because they were terrified. 😬

2024-07-04 00:15:52 +0000 UTCHelena forgives her mother for keeping the Head of the Kings Guard too busy to guard Helena and her babies. Apparently Helena and the children had no guard of their own, possibly because their bedchamber was too close to where Criston Cole was dallying with Alicent. Helena saw them together the night of the murder of the little boy. She knows Cole was to blame and that her mother was complicit.

2024-07-04 00:05:41 +0000 UTCSir, I think you would enjoy the weekly after-show about this production, called The House Dragons Built. The castle interiors are some of the largest sets ever built for a series or movie.
Susan B
2024-07-03 23:35:43 +0000 UTCHalena is saying she forgives her mom for "relations" with Criston while he should have been on duty. If not for that her son would probably be alive.

2024-07-03 22:12:07 +0000 UTC"is he holding the blade that Arya had?" Lol yes welcome to season one. It was a big deal the first season. 🤷🏼♀️

2024-07-03 21:15:30 +0000 UTCThe calm before the storm?

2024-07-03 21:07:11 +0000 UTCNo he's def colorblind or just learned his colors wrong. He thinks the color gray is teal. In the first episode he kept calling the gray smoke and fog teal. This episode there was a random old man sitting down eating at Harrenhal with Daemon that had 100% gray/white hair and he stopped it and asked why does he have green hair? As soon as he said that I started laughing then instantly realized he is colorblind and everything made sense about him always talking about the gray fog and smoke being green or teal. He literally has his colors mixed up so it all makes since why he gets annoyed.

2024-07-03 18:48:25 +0000 UTCJust a reminder that in season 1, the old king didn't change his mind about who would inherit the throne. He was mumbling about Aegon the conqueror and Alicent misinterpreted that as Aegon her son. EDIT: Then it gets revealed moments later again :'). The joys of also watching this for the first time as you do in the reaction. That definitely was supposed to be known to the audience in season 1 as well though...

2024-07-03 07:52:14 +0000 UTCThe issue sounds to me like it's an issue of 'Critic's contempt', a recurring issue with professional critics. Ordinary people consume media for entertainment at varying rates, reviewers constantly consume media as part of their job, as such they take notice and quickly become annoyed at recurring tropes and themes that the regular audiences don't really take note of. I'd imagine that given Boyd's background in photography he's constantly exposed to all these technicalities he's bringing up and has to actively think about as part of the job and now he's particularly keyed to note things he considers novel and things he considers cliche... things the average viewer may not even notice.

2024-07-03 07:51:22 +0000 UTCRight then! Running Commentary! Let's Gooooooo! I've noticed they're adding things to the tapestry in the opening, the boy with the line through his neck and the hanged men are new. And it's not really a stretch, unless you're looking at it the wrong way. Killing a child and ordering a botched assassination are two different things, yes. But holding Alicent culpable for the one is like holding Rhaenyra culpable for the other. Both in that scene were blamed for things outside of their control. The blade Aegon is holding, it's been established that it Is the blade Arya 'will have' and before that it was the blade Visrays had upon which was etched the Song of Ice and Fire which reveals itself when the blade is heated. Ser Cristen Cole, a good and loyal attack-dog put in a position well above an attack-dog's pay grade. It's a folded handkerchief, it's not gonna be slip-sliding around much under a dress that tight. You wear T-shirts, it's not the same thing. A Dragon is not a sword, it's not even a firearm, a Dragon is a Dragon. The last time Dragons in this universe were used in war by this point in the timeline was when Aegon the Conqueror burned his way across the seven kingdoms originally. A better analogy would be, Dragons are NUKES. Harrenhal was Hiroshima, and the lord pushing for the use of dragons is Douglas MacArthur in the Korean War wanting to 'Nuke some Reds' before getting fired because NO. That's why Rhaynera is so reluctant to escalate. It's a Patriarchal society. Patriarchy gives Men authority over Women, but there are a Few Men who get more authority than others. Men are asked to fight and die for the Women so they resent the Women and don't bother asking those Few Men why they decided the fighting and dying was required in the first place. It's Treason then. I don't think it's so much that they really-really want that war, not really, the realm has had peace for so long most of them don't remember how bad war can actually be. What they Want is for 'Queen' Rhaenyra to run along to a nice and safe little lofty tower somewhere while The Menfolk get on with business. "I said that I forgive you, (That's what you wanted to hear, now please leave me alone and stop bothering me on the pretext that you care about anything beyond yourself.)" Yeah, your editor's gonna have to just... yeah... this bit's just gone. It's HBO. They're out of breath because HOLY SHIT A DRAGON! >xD "Harrenhal's haunted." "What?" (Draws Valarian Steel) "HARRENHAL'S HAUNTED!" Of note, Daemon 'woke up' in front of one of those WyrWood Trees, a symbol of the Old Gods. I don't remember when they chopped-down the one in King's Landing or if any survived south of Winterfell by the time of Game of Thrones... but the WyrWood are full of Freaky JuJu. How much of this BS could've been avoided if they'd just NOT named the feckwit after the famous first Targaryan King? The Song of Ice and Fire, Aegon the Conquerer's prophecy of a 'Prince who was Promised to Unite the Realm in dark times' (who appears to have been Jon Snow), the prophecy Visarys kept secret and safe while also constantly obsessing over it until he was repeating it on his deathbed where Alicent misheard it... although, even if she hadn't Otto HighTower and his conspirators probably had plans along those lines anyway.

2024-07-03 07:46:14 +0000 UTCWe did hear what Viserys said to Alicent he spoke of Aegon' dream. Which she took to mean her son should be King. But Viserys was answering a question asked by Rhaenyra the night before, thinking it was her he was speaking to.

2024-07-03 06:14:13 +0000 UTCDaemon wasn't drugged. Harranhal has a horrible history and is definitely cursed. It's also situated near one of the more "magical" places in southern Westeros, The Isle of Faces.

2024-07-03 06:02:55 +0000 UTCI don't get his deal with the castle lighting and colors. It looks like any other castle to me. Guess they could have filmed it in a pink disney land castle or something with strobe lights everywhere instead of the smoking candles but I don't think that would fit the show right.
