Once you hit that tipping point of debt there's no way out without external help, and if you have family with good resources and good-paying careers that can help... legitimately... that can get you out. Ope doesn't have that, he has the club. Nothing is black and white... except maybe car of the cop that shoots you because he heard an acorn fall.

The way the big financial institutions value 'assets' on their ledgers for the purposes of calculating shareholder value, you're worth more to them as a permanently indebted sink-hole of debt without hope of getting in the black than you would be with squeaky credit always paying-off every bill immediately as it comes. Nothing is more expensive in the US than being Poor.
