Even thought you saw breaking bad which did come before bcs. there are still plenty of things that can be spoiled.

My grandmother use to fry / sauté them in butter, a little sugar and brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon. And eat them right along side good old fashioned fried squash and other stuff straight from the garden. I make them once in a while these days. They also make the best fried apple pies. He also tells Walt that he once convinced a woman that he was Kevin Costner because he believed it. S2E1: The douchebag broker, Ken, is the guy whose car was blown up by Walt in season 1. The liquor that they drink is what Gus gave to the cartel when he poisoned them.

Saul/Gene cannot open the door because the police will be called and he could be exposed. This goes against his inclination to break rules, as evidenced with him flipping the switch at the end.
