SOA S1E4 FULL REACTION

Comments

"We have an individual responsibility to form the society we want to live in" Dude, you just described the fundamental principle of Anarchy.

Molly McAllister

Societies definitively can be (and in many ways are) unjust, but I think people tend to forget the "by the people" and "of the people" parts of democracy because it's easier to reject the government as an outside force than to participate and work towards change. We have an individual responsibility to form the society we want to live in.

Forgot this was the episode that the 'ex' situation get's fully laid-out. And yeah, as Gemma pointed out, the doctor's whole situation does not make any sense... unless she's trying to get back under Jax's wing so he can protect her because her creepy stalker ex is a federal agent so of course the above-board mechanisms for protecting herself are useless.

Molly McAllister

'Redwood Original'... Charming is locating where the Redwood trees are in California. Redwood Original is reference to SAMCRO being the 'Mother Chapter' from which all other Sons of Anarchy chapters sprang from. SAMCRO doesn't just run Charming, it runs SOA everywhere SOA operates.

Molly McAllister

And Starbucks, is really... really... Really shitty coffee (that exploits it's labor force somethin' terrible.)

Molly McAllister

From the perspective of the SOA, and it's sympathizers, SAMCRO *Is* keeping out the riff-raff. The external corporate interests and wealthy out-of-region ex-pats and other sources of 'gentrification' which distort labor and housing prices and basically push the locals out of their own neighborhoods, and on the other end nothing stronger than marijuana and shrooms get peddled within Charming's borders and all the petty larceny happens well out of sight and out of mind and only to those entities that can absorb the hit. Yes, they're still criminals. but there is some more nuance to this situation than just, "Bikers Bad."

Molly McAllister

I've been studying up on Anarchy as a philosophy and how it differs from Libertarianism as I've come to understand it. Libertarianism I think over-emphasizes individualism to it's own detriment. People need People, no person is an island. The key thing that kinda changed my mind, at least a little bit, about Anarchism... particularly left-anarchism as opposed to anarcho-capitalism, is it's key principle is it's stance against Authority... and how it defines that. Yes, people do need to come together and share knowledge and resources to build societies, but society =/= Government nor State. 'Authority' in the Anarchist view means people in certain places in the social network or Hierarchy are obligated to carry out the orders of those who posses 'Authority'. In a Cooperative Anarchist system people work together because they see the benefit of that cooperation and have a personal stake in it's success. This of course is reliant upon a population free of ignorance and apathy, while a hierarchical society is reliant on an ignorant and apathetic citizenry as it makes those on the lower rungs of the hierarchy more pliable by those at the top.

Molly McAllister

I find anarchy and libertarianism particularly stupid as far as political philosophies go, because society is what's allowed us to get to this point as a species. We'd still be living in caves if we hadn't learned to share knowledge and resources. But it's interesting too see how these types of people frame it.

Cant wait for you to see all the crazy shit that's still to happen

I'm generally a fan of SoA, but this episode makes me cringe every time. In my opinion, that shootout where the Mayans get flanked and somehow nobody gets shot is the low point scene of the entire damn series. Just ridiculous.

Dor

Wait, you clear it every time you pick it up? Alec Baldwin just points it at someone and pulls the trigger.

The "Vig" on a standard sports bet is 10%. So if you want to win $100 it would cost you $110 if you lose. I heard this from a guy who knows a guy.. don't worry about it.
