Sylvia is the only person we see who has the correct reaction, which is disgust and anger. 17:50. Huge clue. The shot shows the quite subtle circular shape of the land side edge of the dome despite the low altitude, almost as if we can see the curvature of this tiny, fake planet. I agree that really Truman should have realised all this when he was about 14, but they wanted Jim Carrey for the role, and not a teen actor. Of course, my generation of 14 year olds would have posited a conspiracy theory, but we watched the X Files and thought almost everything was one.

2023-09-24 00:44:22 +0000 UTCSadly, we are neither Truman nor the actors.. we are the audience.. fully aware and engaged in the spoon fed dramas and story lines presented to us. As you said about the audience in the movie, we are complicit in the wrecking of lives and misery of everyone else, as long as we get our fix of our escape of our own lives. We watch shows like cops, Jerry springer, etc with the thoughts of, well at least that ain't us... we watch fictitious shows thinking, I wish my life was, or can be that. We do it daily, and most times watching the "news". We aren't paid participants in the show, we are the ones who pay to watch it.. pay to occupy our time.. we pay to watch other people live lives as we just watch....

It would be like growing up Amish minus the outside world being there to taint your reality. A fishbowl with mirrored walls. The strange sun and moon stuff for example? Always happened since he was born, so why question what in his mind has just always been.

Seeing this from the perspective of someone going in completely blind was truly eye-opening, like this was how it was Meant to be experienced but the studio's marketing department had to fuck it up.
