2023-09-25 03:57:36 +0000 UTCMr Boyd, as a filmmaker you might enjoy HBO’s behind-the-scenes called The House that Dragons Built. Their set for the Red Keep is one of the most massive built sets ever. There’s also a fascinating look at how they do the jousts, how the actors train with some of that crazy-dangerous hardware; the location scouting, the complexity of shooting on a beach in Cornwall for the crab-feeder scenes. And eww, the makeup for the crab feeder’s skin.

2023-09-24 00:31:14 +0000 UTCNote about the stillborn baby: prosthetics creator confirmed that it had scales and other deformities, as Dany’s stillborn son was described in GOT. Emma D’Arcy’s performance during this episode and especially that scene was so powerful.

2023-09-22 22:22:47 +0000 UTCTrue. But she didn’t balk at squishing some of the commoners who were herded in to witness the coronation. In this world, we viewers have to accept two “givens” before we can choose a hero. One is that girls might marry Uncle Grandpa. The other is that commoners don’t have any value, not even to the reasonable people like Rhaenys.

2023-09-20 19:19:35 +0000 UTCThe twin brother who risks his life to free Rhaenys and then steals the crown to bring it to Rhaenyra: that’s the true meaning of loyalty, Daemon.

2023-09-20 19:13:12 +0000 UTCI can't tell you why, but Lucerys' death was the hardest child death in all of GoT for me to watch. He was such a sweet little thing. RIP, princeling. Nuke 'em, Rhaenyra.

2023-09-20 12:17:41 +0000 UTCTheres a difference between diving into war without thinking; and uniting your forces tactically and acting with caution . Also... it wasnt princess rhaneces call to make on whether the people on the stage should be deleted

2023-09-20 12:15:07 +0000 UTCThe Baratheon's and the Targaryens were mostly close friends until nearer to GoT on the timeline. One of Aegon the Conqueror's closest friends, and rumored bastard half-brother, Orys Baratheon, became the first Lord Paramount of the Stormlands when he slew the last Storm King Argilac the Arrogant and married his daughter Argella. To honor the fallen king he adopted the stag banner, honors, and house words of the Durrandons. He's also considered the first hand of the king.

2023-09-20 07:24:22 +0000 UTCSince the writers of the GOT finale also forgot the prophesy, ended the war against the wights without a Targeryan on the Iron Throne, and sent the Prince that was Promised back to the Wall, it’s pretty easy to forget.

2023-09-20 06:14:03 +0000 UTC“All the symbols of legitimacy” belong to Aegon, argues Otto. Symbols. Which brings us back to GOT world’s recurring theme of who legitimately rules, and why. Rhaenera’s bastard heir by Harwin Strong, in contrast with Alycent’s legitimate blond Aaegon, shows every sign of being an intelligent, serious and courageous boy who knows he has to prove himself, so would likely make a good leader. Yet Aegon, who rapes the servants, likes to watch children fight in a pit, and has consigned at least one of his own bastard children to a cage in FleaBottom, has birth legitimacy and now symbols of legitimacy. So he’s going to rule the Seven Kingdoms. A royal perv. Huzzah. I suspect that George RR Martin thinks as little of royalty as you do, Mr. Boyd. Me too. As to how they find out Luc has been killed, I assume that those severed dragon wings we saw floating downward after the fatal kerfuffle would have fallen someplace not far from DragonStone, since they said earlier that Luc had only a short flight to Baratheon’s castle. The narrow canyon where Luc temporarily evaded Aemon looked like the place we saw earlier in the season when Daemon was harvesting dragon eggs, so familiar territory. I’m assuming that Daemon saw evidence of Luc’s dead dragon. There was originally a scripted scene where Daemon tells Rhanera that Luc has been killed, but the actor Matt Smith suggested that it would be more powerful the way they wound up shooting it: private words between husband and wife, their backs to the room and the camera. So when she has had a moment to absorb the blow, she turns to us without a word and delivers that Mad Dany look we saw after Cersei had Dany’s friend beheaded. (To her credit, Emma D’Arcy’s mad look conveys grief and rage, not just madness.) Re the Song of Ice and Fire: Rhaenyra assumed that Daemon knew, because he had been the presumed heir for years, until Viscerys named Rhaenyra. Remember, when V showed R the writing on the blade that only shows when it’s held in fire (a callback to the One Ring in LOTR with the lettering thaf can only be read in fire) he told R that the prophesy is handed down from each Targeryan ruler to his heir. That’s why Daemon is so furious when R tells him “you know of my oath which is beyond our personal ambitions,” the Song of Ice and Fire. The Conqueror’s Dream.” She thinks he knows, because he was her father’s original heir. But the fact that Daemon was never told means that V never trusted him enough to let him inherit the prophesy or the crown. One more note: In the first episode, Viscerys tells Rhaenera, “the idea that we control the dragons is an illusion. “ He tells her that right before he tells her of the Conquerors’ Dream. I love the way that one conversation returns to haunt the finale. Aemon was bullying Luc, but certainly didn’t intend to murder him while on a diplomatic mission. He learned the hard way that he wasn’t in control.

2023-09-20 05:58:57 +0000 UTCI admire your haste and eagerness for Rhaenyra to start the war, but i think she started with the right mindset. Trying to avoid the war was the most honorable thing possible, in a utilitarian way. You gotta keep in mind that these dragons are Weapons of Mass destruction, and it has been over a century since any of them were used. There are many parallels with us and our relationship to the atomic bombings. It's easy to forgot how horrible they were and the consequences of them being unleashed. Rhaenys also did the right thing by not burning them at the coronation. Yes, in a practical sense, if she would have started the war right there and then she would have decapitated the greens, but like she said it was not her "war to start". A big kerfuffle is starting and she didn't want to be the catalyst. You also have to put yourselves into the shoes of the common folk of the realm. First your king dies. A king that had kept the peace going for many many decades. A new, popular, and legitimate king (by their eyes) has just been crowned. The citizens, watching a dragon murder the royal family on inauguration day would be seen as a massive terrorist attack. The war would begin, the Targaryen blacks at a disadvantage on troops and despised by the citizens. Rhaenyra would have to pretty much "nuke" kings landing and the other capitals to bring the realm under control, possibly starting many years of war. She would need to become a Tyrant as her first royal act.... not a good way to start a reign. Killing the Otto Hightower would not have accomplished any strategic goals. It would just reduce the time available to prepare alliances and troop logistics. She avoided acting in the stereotypical manner that is used to judge women in power ("oh she'll be too emotional to make right decisions"). I appreciate how the writers flipped the script there and showing her being the level headed one. MrLBoyd, from what you said, you would have let your emotions make the choice for you and unleash possible armageddon on the population. Tsk Tsk Tsk. Can't be so emotional bro

2023-09-20 05:00:53 +0000 UTCRemember the Song of Ice and Fire. And remember, the same scene where Visreys explained that to Rhaenyra was the same one where he dropped, "That we command the Dragons, is an Illusion." The Dragons were NEVER domesticated, not really. The dragonriders are carried at the dragon's pleasure. That was foreshadowing... for this.

2023-09-20 04:14:34 +0000 UTCSeriously? You Forgot the Song of Ice and Fire? Aegon the Conqueror's prophecy about the Prince-who-was-Promised to fight the coming battle against the darkness in the north? The prophecy that was etched into the King's Dagger and was revealed when the blade was heated in fire? The prophecy Visareys entrusted to Rhaenyra and was the entire reason why the EVERYTHING is happening in this show? Visreys HAD to declare his daughter heir Right Then, she HAD to have children in spite of her gentleman husband's inability to perform, and then he HAD to back her up and legitimize the resulting bastards ALL to ensure an uninterupted line of succession that would lead to the birth of The Prince Who Was Promised. The thing we've been repeatedly bringing-up here in the comments? THAT Song of Ice and Fire? (That Visreys didn't trust his brother Daemon with.)

2023-09-20 02:17:04 +0000 UTCHouse Baratheon was founded by Aegon the Conqueror's bastard brother, and closest friend Orys Baratheon. The Targaryens and Baratheons continued to marry over the years. Which is why Robert had the best claim to the throne, when house Targaryen fell🤓

2023-09-20 01:58:12 +0000 UTCThe dragon Daemon was singing to is Vermithor, the second largest dragon in existence(after Vhaegar). It belonged to Viserys and Daemon's grandfather King Jaehaerys, the old King at the beginning of the first episode. It is currently riderless🙂

2023-09-20 01:48:41 +0000 UTCYeaaaa! Good job getting you on the right side (i.e., as best as we could get)! LOL Aemond realized he effed! Great actor too thar plays him. He was in The Last Kingdom. Another great series...if you're ever into VIking / Dane history. I think you'd also like the scenery and landscapes! One thing you can see in this show....the Hightowers forced people to bend the knee...while Rhaenyra's small pack was loyal from the start. Also what gets me is how decent Allicent holds herself to be and look at rotten ass kids!!! The relationship Rhaenyra had with her children is unmatched. RIP Lucaerys

2023-09-20 00:55:55 +0000 UTCHuge GoT fan! Watched it live week to week, and have since binged it a few times... I tried with this spinoff, I really did. Watched the first episode when it aired live, then made it through episode 3 with MrL, but its just too silly. There were so many better backstories they could have examined but HBO Show Runners like Dragons.
