HOD S1E7 FULL REACTION

I find the princess's stance confusing. She seems to want her position as future queen. But early on she stated that she didn't want for that kind of life. She wanted out in the beginning. Then, after being told she WOULD be queen, she suddenly changes her stance and is now willing to do anything to maintain a status she never cared about before?!??? Maybe it's a Targaryen insanity bug. i don't know. seems like a stretch.

Mister_Bleak

I enjoy watching a Green sided reacter for once; or at least someone thats not falling for all of Rhaenyra’s bullshit haha. Both sides are trash it should have been Blue/Rhaenys

Icebird

I am definitely more on Rhaenyra's side overall, as she has the legitimate claim and seemed to at least try to do her duty with Laenor (he may just be sterile and it never would have worked no matter how hard they tried). But I also have empathy for Alicent's position. She's always tried her best to do her duty as well, and is a devoted care taker of the king. Her father planted the ambition to replace her son as heir in her mind, and then definitely became bitter after she felt betrayed by Rhaenyra when she lied about sleeping with Ser Cole.

M. Miel

It's just a theory someone came up with, based on the fact she is never actually shown drinking the tea😅 And personally I don't think Sir Criston would say anything, even if he did realise. Considering how toxic his obsession with "honor" is😒

gak9319

Great analysis! 💜

Alyssa Dyson

fr that was so disrespectful not only to rhaenyra but also to laena and HER HUSBAND TOO lol like??? he’s standing right there

kallista

THANK YOU!!! I don’t know why some people miss the shade

PVaughn

That's actually a greatt point I never picked up on

Matt Rumsey

The first time I watched that episode, I also missed that crucial reveal at the end. I felt disgusted that Rhaenera would plot to murder Leonor when he had just pledged to recommit his life to being a better husband. It’s a confusing sequence. I was so relieved when I figured out that the plot was to free Leonor, and not to kill him. IMO, Daemon wouldn’t have flinched away from murdering him if it had come to that, but Rhaenera really cared for him. The poor anonymous schmuck who was chosen to die and be burned in Leonor’s place? That’s another story. We watch this series and learn to accept that “the small people” are fully expendable.

Susan B

This! Her children are Targherions and dragon riders. They aren’t Varerian, but don’t need to be to fulfill the prophesy.

Susan B

I just wanna point out this, in case some details were forgotten. That scene when Allicent was menacing Rahenyra with that knife and venting her spleen about how she did Her duty while Rhanyra didn't... and the whole time Rhanyra kept looking at that knife... ...the same knife that bore Aegon's prophecy, the song of ice and fire, born on the blade and revealed in fire. And the reason Rhaneyra couldn't afford NOT to have children when Laenor continued to fail.

Molly McAllister

I feel like you missed at the end that it was Laenor after shaving his head on the row boat. They didn't actually kill him!!!! They faked his death to free both of them from a sham marriage; and allowed him to go and be free to live his life out with the love of his life. Also; Rhaenaera was doing Laenor a solid their entire marriage. He's gay, she allowed him to live out his life his way instead of being shunned by his family and losing his birthright, maybe even his life; or being forced to marry someone else who most likely wouldn't of put up with his 'nature'. They agreed that both of them would have their own lovers on the side; and like you said, no contraception. Surely you can't expect her to live her whole life without any physical or emotional bonds, its a bit harsh! They both knew what they signed up for!

Matt Rumsey

They may have attacked him. But he stole their mother's dragon on the day of their mothers funeral.

Matt Rumsey

I think the 'Heir for a Day' crack was more him feeling goaded into it at the time by his 'followers' and rather than dissapoint them and endanger that position he let that slight loose and when called-out he doubled-down because that's how Daemon Do (and also got Visreys to finally piss or get off the privy about whether or not he'd name Rhaenyra or Him as heir.) That's another thing, Daemon loves his brother, but as King Visreys was always too conciliatory, especially when he should be decisive. Rhaenyra IS decisive and right or wrong she can find her guns and stick to them, which is why I think Daemon is so attracted to her, her most memorable moments of decisiveness have been with calling Daemon's bluffs after all.

Molly McAllister

Not so much 'shooting blanks' as 'can't even get it out of the holster at the firing-line'.

Molly McAllister

I feel you might find a greater appreciation for Jaime if you ever read the books and dive deep into the symbolisms represented in his life.

Christopher Wichman

We haven’t yet had the equivalent of a Jaime pushing a child from a tower, but we have just seen Alicent attack a child with a knife in her determination to remove his eye.

Susan B

Do people act like this? Medieval European and Asian royal families acted a lot like this. The inter-familial marriages to keep the blood “pure,” the child marriages, the forced pregnancies often at the cost of an aristocratic woman’s life; fratricide, mysterious disappearances of royal children like England’s “Princes in the Tower” who were locked in the Tower of London “for their safety” during a disputed succession, and were never again seen alive. When you create a system of government that grants absolute power to people of a certain bloodline, you all but necessitate horrible behavior.

Susan B

What other choices did Rhaenera have? She was REQUIRED to marry Laenor, and REQUIRED to produce heirs. Her father demanded the marriage and also convinced her that she had an absolute duty to have babies to secure the succession. Birth contro!? No, having children was the primary purpose of her extra-marital relationship, because children were not optional for an heir to the throne. She chose Harwin Strong because he was the one man in the court that she felt she could trust to be discreet. If she hadn’t been limited to the available men in her father’s castle, she might have been able to find a white-haired babydaddy. But she had to play the cards she was dealt: 1) Husband can’t perform with a woman 2) She has to produce heirs 3) With no available and able men who bear any resemblance to her white-haired husband, she makes brown-haired “heirs” and trusts that the people whose goodwill matters will echo the Sea Snake’s opinion: “History doesn’t remember blood. It remembers names.” Only Alicent, and her sons because of Alicent, is obsessed with Jace’s and Luc’s legitimacy. Their legal father, Leonor, doesn’t care that they aren’t his. Their maternal grandfather knows that HE is the one who put Rhaenera in an impossible position by arranging her marriage to a man who prefers male lovers, while also reminding her that she has to “multiply yourself” to secure the succession. And that is likely why Viscerys pretends not to know that his grandsons are illegitimate. If he “saw” what others see in this case, he would have to punish his daughter for what he made her do, and banish her children. So. Mr. Boyd, failing an immaculate conception, how was the princess supposed to make babies with her husband? What paths were open to her if she took seriously the duties that her father imposed?

Susan B

Not true, she was taking the Plan B Tea. She was too smart to let her self be trapped into marriage with Ser Criston, who was fun to play with but would have made a boring husband. Cole would have known by the timing of her first pregnancy whether he was the father, and you can bet he would have wanted everyone to know.

Susan B

I do think Daemon feels the loss of his wife as real grief, but he cares more about appearing weak than he cares about his wife’s death. Just as he joked that Viscyis’ dead baby son was “Heir for a Day” back in Episode 1, he would rather be perceived as heartless than to grieve normally and feel vulnerable.

Susan B

Alicent is such a hypocrite🙄🖤

gak9319

Aemond was definitely jumped at first and he definitely has the right to defend himself however aemond doesn’t have the right to make death threats or to raise a deadly weapon to another person who is on the floor and use it to most likely kill that person. That’s all I’m saying. Aemond definitely should’ve defended himself however the minute everyone was on the ground. Right then Aemond should’ve left and that be the end of it . But he de didn’t do that and instead escalated it further by picking up a weapon and making death threats

Kiana

Aemond One-Eye😁

gak9319

Oh, and Rhaenyra's eldest son might just be Criston Cole's son not Harwin Strongs🫣

gak9319

The final time-skip for this season is next episode. Now that I'm watching this again thru a more realistic lens, I still cannot be Team Green 😂 too much jealousy, plotting, and backstabbing clouded in hate. Pay close attention to what Alicent's daughter, Helaena, is saying. Remember in the previous episode Aemond was upset about not yet having a dragon and Alicent reassured him that he'll have one, Helaena added "he'll have to close an eye" right after 👀

JM

Mr. B LOL... you're letting the incest details cloud your judgment bro. Lol... though I knew you'd be against Rhaenyra before you even watched. She's definitely not worse than Jamie and Daemon gets a bad wrap but he's really a good person who loves his family. Remember historically, the Targaryens believe in keeping a pure bloodline....unless it's a marriage for allyship or integration. King Viserys married into the Arryns and you see Rhaenys is half Baratheon. Though disgusting for us lol...it's their way. This is where you'll see all the Greens vs. Blacks start their shit lol. Otto started all this in hindsight....but no one ever sees that. He used his daughter to gain power and Rhaenyra was forced to perform "her duty" to someone who wanted alsi to be free. She in turn, started spewing hate through her kids as well....Classic pawn game and family shit that spreads to the kids.. Rhaenyra found love and pleasure in Ser Harwin which was also wrong...but I think the stress to produce heirs and just do "a job" was all her and Laenor thought of.

PatronPioneer

Laenor and Rhaenyra should definitely have kept trying, but I think Laenor might be "shooting blanks"😅 Just a theory though🤔

gak9319

"And now they see you as you are." Love Rhaenyra. Alicent is just as conniving as her father - seducing the King for power. Spreading hatred towards Rhaenyra's children because of jealousy. Rhaenyra didn't get much of a choice in her marriage either - and yet she managed to find happiness.

Lisa Borth

What alot of people really forget about daemon is that even though he is somewhat crazy and his ways of getting stuff done r radical all he wants is for house targaryen to return to its former glory he sees that its falling apart under his brothers reign but he isn't about to kill his brother to take the throne. He even told viserys to wed rhaenyra to him so they can restore house targaryen to its former glory. And if the book has told us anything its always the radical ones who have saved them b4 maegor burned down the sept of the faith to get rid of the faith militant and made it illegal for men of the faith to carry weapons bcause they bcame a huge threat to their house. The Hightowers have always been against them behind their backs. The sister predicted this would happen in the last episode as well when alicent told aemond he would have a dragon someday she said he will have to close an eye.

Convulsion Gaming

You cannot steal a dragon, they a semi sentient. If they don't like you, Targaryen blood or no, you die😅 There is an inuniverse theory that says dragons are more predisposed to choose riders who remind them of their first rider. Vhagar's first rider was Visenya, sister and wife to Aegon the Conqueror the first Targaryen King. Vhagar is the last of the original dragons that conquered Westeros and the oldest dragon in existence, which is why it's so big🤓

gak9319

I’m so sad you’re Team Green. 😭😭 Rhaenyra didn’t have a choice in who she married. She had a duty. Luckily, she and her betrothed came up with a way to fulfill their duty while also still loving who they want. It was an agreed upon decision by them both. Then she set him free to truly be who he is while also getting what she wants. It must be the family thing for you because the Alicent is just vile. 😂

The One-Eyed-Aemond

Conner

I just watched the episode again and it was for sure my favorite so far. I only have 4 problems with it. The shade filter they used was trash (did they learn nothing from the white walker battle), there was no blood on the blade after it cut Rhaenyra, they aren't doing justice to Daemons fatherhood because in the book he is a good father, and the Leanor reveal happening after the wedding made me enjoy the wedding a lot less than I would've. You should watch the "inside the episode" when the episode ends. It won't spoil anything, but it might give you answers or a better idea and insight to the events in the episode. Daemon laughing at the funeral was to get attention away from Rhaenyra because everybody was looking at her due to the insults in Vaemond's speech. During the gathering we can see just as much tension between the kids as the adults which is very sad. This is mainly due to Alicent and Cole. We have seen them constantly talk bad about Rhaenyra and her kids in public and to Alicent's kids. We've seen Cole treat and train Alicent's kids better and more than Rhaenyra's. We haven't ever seen Rhaenyra say or do anything bad about Alicent's kids or say anything bad about her or Cole in public. The Daemon and Rhaenyra scene was great and needed (incest I know). We saw there was something between them in episode 1 and it's just built up since. The connection was clearly still there, now that they're both adults and both are grieving it was inevitable. The entire dragon scene was awesome but claiming Vhagar was a shitty thing to do to those little girls. After its rider dies a dragon chooses the next so Aemond didn't technically steal it. However, with Leana being the last rider her dragonless daughter should've had the chance to claim Vhagar before anybody else. Aemond doing it the night of Leana's funeral made it even worse. Aemonds anger and hatred along with Vhagar is going to be a problem lol. The fight between the kids was perfect. 2 girls with no fighting skills, 1 boy with some fighting skills, and a tiny boy with hardly any fighting skills vs. a boy who is bigger by like a foot and has more and better fighting skills (Partly due to Cole training Alicent's kids more than Rhaenyra's). You fight to win so cut that bitch lol. Aemond 100% instigated the fight and deserved what he got. They didn't just jump him. It was between Aemond and the dragonless daughter then her sister defended her then Jace defended his cousins and Luke defended his brother. Jace didn't pull the knife until his baby brother was getting choked and insulted and about to get smashed with a rock. Aemond hit Jace in the head with the rock and would've kept going if he didn't get cut. When you look at Alicent's kids vs Rhaenyra's you can see who the better parent is. The aftermath was perfect. This entire time Rhaenyra has kinda been on the defensive but this episode she went on the offensive. In Kings Landing she didn't really have anybody to help her. Leanor was kind of a party boy and even though he is a warrior he probably wasn't fit for the political scheming type of fight. Ser Harwin basically couldn't do or say anything because of his position on the totem pole. But now she feels like she has Daemon to back her up. So, she makes her first move by putting out her kids legitimacy. Knowing her father would be on her side on this topic. Every move she made was to make Alicent show the room her true bitter cunty self. Now word will spread about her true nature and if anything were to happen, she would be the first person they look at. Rhaenyra baited Alicent perfectly and now the king basically legitimized her kids and if he keeps his word will take any tongue who questions it. Alicent and her family are the only people in the realm making a big deal about Rhaenyra's kids. The king doesn't care. Leanor doesn't care. He claimed them, loved them, and raised them as his own. Corlys doesn't care because "history remembers names not blood" and his wife is kinda split but its only Alicent bitching, crying, and stabbing. The kids are just as Targaryen as hers. The entire exchange between Rhaenyra and Alicent just proves that her family is the true problem. She is basically mad because Rhaenyra gets to live how she wants, and she doesn't. She is angry and bitter that Rhaenyra's life is better than hers. Her bitterness is actually putting her kids lives in more danger because she is starting a civil war. Marrying Daemon and "killing" Leanor was the 2nd power move Rhaenyra made. They are a dangerous combo. They can make pure white hair Targaryen kids, Daemon is a proven warrior, they are both smart and strategic when needed, and now that Leanor is gone, they are both feared. She also sticks it to Alicent again too because she is marrying who she wants and out of love. She strengthened her claim, married somebody she loves, and still kept the alliance with the Velaryons because of Daemon's kids and hers by name. Plus, it helps that Alicent would be doing what was done to Rhaenys. Leanor got a good deal out of that because he wanted a way out but there wasn't one until now. He is free and can live how he wants with who he wants, I know I wrote a lot sorry lol.

Joseph LeRoy

i personally disagree that jace and luke used the knife in self defense. all 4 of them attacked aemond. its true he grabbed a rock, however the rock could also be seen as self defense considering he was jumped by all 4 at the same time. He also lowered the rock after his threat and pushed him away... After he pulled the knife. Thats when Jace and Luke could have left, but they didnt. thats not self defense, that is finding out because they fucked around.

taylor

Man taking the "queens" side is one of the wildest things ever. Regardless of what Rhaenyra has done she is still heir.

Ashley

Youre not weird...I always say the same thing once im gone just cremate me I wont mind lol I havent gotten far into the episode yet but its hard to pick up on at a first watch but Daemon is laughing because dude was taking a shot at Rheynera's kids in that speech.

Alyssa Dyson

Your issues with rhaenyra are valid! however --- I don't like alicent 😂 to me she's jealous. but I really have a hard time figuring out who to side with between the two

Jillian

daemon was laughing because corlys’ brother was shading rhaenyra and her children at the funeral of his niece. it’s a bit awkward and out of place to throw shade at anyone at a funeral lol. he’s not happy truly, he is broken up about laena. rhaenyra told the boys to go to bed bc she wanted to talk to daemon, otto told aegon to go to bed because aegon was drunk as hell haha. what can i say about daemon and rhaenyra? it’s a targaryen thing!!! haha. at least there’s little to no genetic consequences. THANK YOU FOR NOTICING THAT THIS WAS FILMED DURING THE DAY. it frustrates me that they darkened it though in a way i understand it was bc of the dragon claiming that aemomd did. still it’s unnecessarily dark, like some GoT scenes lol. i had to hold my hand over my phone screen to be able to see the episode. it’s up to the king to do something about rhaenyra and what she has done or didn’t do. if he doesn’t disinherit her or her sons that’s what it the law and in place. i don’t think rhaenyra should be disinherited or anything, i am on her side but no matter what side i am on she had to have heirs and she couldn’t have them with laenor. plus they have her blood, and she’s the one that is the heir to the throne, not laenor. and i mean however else you want to interpret the fight itself is fine, there was wrong on all their sides. but it is at the end of the day, like you said, not the kids faults because these ideas have been instilled by the adults in their life. and for alicent to ask viserys to take an eye from another one of his kin is crazy lol. sometimes i feel like she acts like just because rhaenyra’s sons are not laenor’s then they are not viserys’. i don’t know what people “need to see” of rhaenyra that they haven’t seen. i don’t think rhaenyra is bad for her previous actions. her husband is aware of the situation. and she helped him escape with his lover to live out his life how he wants to. i understand alicent being upset, i do truly, but she needed to be quietly called out for her actions after what happened. assaulting someone is different from simply consentingly having children with someone separate from your husband. she is the heir to the throne, and if male heirs could birth children he would not be looked at wrong for having an heir from someone else like rhaenyra is, the hypocrisy according to gender in this world is absolutely crazy. but i, being bisexual, can’t personally understand exactly how hard it would be for a gay male to have a child with a woman. i wish they could’ve just known about the turkey-baster technique lol.

kallista

Honestly the whole the should’ve kept trying thing wouldn’t have worked because rhaenyra is a woman who as she gets older is less and less likely to produce a legitimate heir the more and more years they kept trying and would’ve really weakened her in her claim for the throne. It’s different for leanor as a man than it is for rhaenyra as a woman in regards to that. With comparisons to rhaenyra with Jamie I highly disagree with that. The Targaryens aren’t really that different from real life royals like the British royal family in regards to inbreeding within the family at least to me. With the kids . Above all someone should’ve been watching them. That aside I have little to no problem with what Jace and Luke did to aemond. That kid had weapon in his hand saying to one of them that they would die like there father did . To me it was self defense. I’m not mad at alicent for being upset about her kid being seriously injured and she should get justice for that however she took things to far and that’s what rhaenyra was referring to when said now they see you as you are. Basically be careful of who you show your crazy to.

Kiana

Extra early update means I got my whole 8 hours ahead of me before I get to watch this lol.
