Does anyone else think Cole would have taken rejection better if Rhaenyra had pretended to be pitiful? “I would love to be your wife, but I can’t bear to betray my father.” Or, “I’m afraid we would be tracked down and killed.” Anything but the truth.

Everyone seems simultaneously horrified and accepting of it, as if it’s just a thing that happens on the dance floor sometimes. 😶

I made it a point not to watch it a second time until you got to it so it wouldn't be fresh in my mind. Ser Criston said he was mad about his honor but really it's bc he feels like a fool. It's like if you cheated on your wife to be with someone you fell in love with and you leave your family for them only to have them tell you they are marrying someone else despite all you've sacrificed for them. That is how he is viewing things. Yes, he is mad he broke his vows just to be shot down. Not the brightest guy thinking she would just leave with him. Everything Alicent did here was completely calculated and deliberate. Her father told her she had a choice, either cling to Rhaenyra and beg for mercy or start preparing Aegon to rule. By wearing the green dress she is signifying that she has made her choice. A beacon of war. A lot of this happens a bit differently in the books but I actually prefer the changes. For instance, Daemon doesn't kill his wife in the books. He is accused of it but didn't do it. It The whole green dress sequence goes down quite differently as well. The changes they made fit the show very well and make sense. In comparing this to GOT here's how I view it. GOT is still my favorite show along with BB but this season blows GOT season 1 out of the water. The best is still to come.

This is just my theory but in the book if u r cut by the throne it means u r not fit to b king amd that u r cursed. It never explains what the curse is but in my head I feel like his illness is his curse caused by cuts from the throne. Bcause it started with the one on his back then his finger and his finger amd arm only got worse and worse after the cut no matter what they did yo try and fix it. Was viserys a good man yes u could say that. Was he a good king absolutely not. He let the stepstones b invaded more than once he married alicent bcause of personal feelings instead of thinking politically. Granted if he had married layna then they might end up in a worse position than they r now bcause Otto was scheming behind viserys back to get his grandson on the throne I don't think corliss would b so sneaky he would most likely outright demand his son b king over rhaenyra and if it didn't happen not only does his house have the largest navy but they also have 2 dragons.

He'd have a ding on his record but at least he'd be able to live open and honestly, there was a chance to eventually recover. Living on as the secret side-piece was something he couldn't bear.

She would totally mad-stomp anyone who tried suggesting she be deposed in Aegon's favor, AND anyone who suggested she kill him so people would stop trying to put him on the throne... under ideal circumstances. But, this is all happening because the previous king couldn't be Bold and Decisive enough to just name Renerys his heir and tell the Westerosi lords to Deal With It.

Props to Raeneryah for calling him out on the dance floor like that, challenging him to really be as wild as his (no doubt cultivated) reputation suggests he is. It wasn't poison, Visareys has been in ill health from the start of the series. Those sores on his back that didn't heal? The finger that needed a bath in maggots? The sudden bleeding? How horribly sick he was looking? It's all connected. Ser Kristen Cole, that boy is gonna be a problem. He came up from Nothing and that doesn't happen often, especially in Westeros. Becoming a Kingsguard was probably the best thing that could happen to him, and in his mind when Raenerah (never can remember how to spell that) took him to bed he didn't take her virtue it was the other way around. He didn't remove that man's face for her sake, he did it for his own. He thought Kristen was in the same situation as him, forced by circumstance to be a secret lover instead of a spouse but hey it's all good.... ...it was not, in fact, 'all good'. Kristen Cole is past the despair event horizon, seeing himself as irredeemably sullied and this man basically just rubbed his nose in it like house-breaking a puppy.
