HOD S1E3

The wife sure looked like she was going to die no matter what. Also you must have missed when she said never again. she would not have another child. I think it is pretty clear he loved her. I don't think he was bad for making the choice. I think many others of that time wouldn't have even hesitated.

Daemon was trying to bring glory to his own name. His brother coming in at the climax of the conflict with help, which would basically say he couldn't do something for himself so he needs his brother to bail him out. Daemon is about the words of his house, fire and blood, he embodies them. Every time he jabs at Viserys in his actions or even when the whole heir for a day situation happened. I firmly believe that was set up by Otto and didnt actually happen, but since Viserys believed it so he played the role. Since his brother thought so little of him and believed Otto over him. Cast as the villain he gladly played it. I think thats why he is pulled towards Raenerya she like him is like fire, whereas Viserys is easily manipulated and veiled by others.

To be fair, even if he had done nothing, both his son and his wife would have died. But the child died anyway. If I was him, I would have had her doped up on milk of the poppy and allowed to bleed to death painlessly. Harsh as it is, I'd care more about my wife's final moments than a child that has yet to be born.

It's 14 pounds to a stone.

Imagine being the command entertainment source for a teenager who wants the same song on repeat. Torture.

"Perhaps the princess would like to hear something else?" [Cue SOUL-GLO jingle]

Nothing to do with the books, George himself said that the books are an in-universe fictionalization of historical events written well after the fact and don't reflect accurate history.

Molly McAllister

Word of God (GRRM) is that the books are in-universe fictionalized accounts and not 'What Really Happened.` It would also explain Allicent's... well, that would be spoilers.

Molly McAllister

Yea this was a theory formed by fans after watching the show. It is supposed to explain why Rhaenyra was so upset when Alicent became betrothed to her father, not that she would simply be upset by the fact that her bff was marrying her father. There is nothing in the book that implies this and it is merely fan fiction.

Drewcliff82

I havent read the book yet so ill have to do that and see if I come to the same conclusion.

Even today there are rich people paying to attend canned hunts. Exotic animals kept on ranches so trophy hunters can bag one without going to too much trouble. My grandfather was a subsistence hunter and farmer. He had studied the animals he hunted, out of necessity, since childhood. He fed his family well during the Depression, on everything from deer to squirrels to possums. But he had enormous respect for the animals he hunted or raised for meat.

Symmetry: the Princess and Daemon both shown bloodied but triumphant after fighting for their lives.

Susan B

The king expects Strong to put forth his own son, the knight Harwan, as a candidate for the princess’ hand and is surprised when he recommends the Sea Snake’s son instead. One advisor who isn’t self-serving.

Susan B

I wonder if the weight of a stone originally referred to one of a size that a man might lift and fit to build a wall. It can’t have been completely random, can it? “That stone over there looks like it weighs ten stone.”

Susan B

Same 🙂

This has been an ongoing theory from the start, and last I'd heard the actresses themselves stated they believe that's what's going down. That Rhanerya is bisexual and Allicent is a Lesbian, which makes a lot of what goes down later make much more sense. (and why I initially was reluctant to spill this, Spoilers)

Molly McAllister

Err when was it ever implied that Rhanerya likes Alicent romantically? They were childhood best friends.

Alyssa Dyson

1 Stone = 14 pounds. The same way that 1kg = 1000 grams I weigh 12 stone 13 pounds for example.

Matt Rumsey

Yeah. That's pretty typical for a medieval 'Royal' hunt, it wasn't about Anything related to why modern people go out to hunt, it was all a display of wealth and power. None of your complaints would have even registered if you'd been there to make them. He is The King, of Course he has an ARMY basically doing the tracking and the hounding and the cornering of the target animal, lassoing it so he could have the glory of the kill, the MOST-most important part. After all, he's the King. Of course this is all grotesque to modern sensibilities, I think the show-runners deliberately set things up to maximize how farcical it all looks. And yeah, that was the Crab Feeder made half the man he used to be by Daemon, likely in one stroke. I told you before, Dark Sister is Valareyan Steel and that's what Valareyan Steel does. As for who Renyrah actually wants. I was originally planning on saving this for later, but I guess now is a time as good as any. It's Allicent. Renyrah wants Allicent. That's why she took it so personally when her father married her.

Molly McAllister

Yea I hated when viewers were complaining about the time jumps when this came out. It's just going off the book so it's better for the show to match the books time jumps rather than make up new material.

Drewcliff82

That'll do it 😂🤣😅

Drewcliff82

What an episode. Viserys is in a tough spot. He has to choose between his daughters happiness or the happiness of the realm. As a hunter that scene was rough for me. When I was 16 I had an arrow barely skim a bush and it caused it to be a little off target. The deer ran nearly 3 miles before it died and if my freinds dad didn't have the dogs we never would have found it. I felt absolutely terrible. I don't blame the king here though. He isn't a hunter or even a strong warrior and likely doesn't even want any part in this but he has to uphold the stupid tradition. He's pretty weak at this point too and I don't think he would last long running all over the woods. Daemon is one crazy SOB forsure. He definitely didn't want to lose any credit after being stuck in this war for 3 years. He was even willing to use himself as bait to get it done. Get used to the time jumps bc that's what this part of the story is. This entire series is based on 1 book and this part of the story is a pretty short and not a ton of material to go off.

Drewcliff82

Viserys waited 3 years to offer any help, so yes, Daemon was pissed. Rightfully so. He got it done. I’m really enjoying your reactions to this show and can’t wait till the next. Just know that major time jumps are a factor in this first season unlike GOT.

HereIAM

This was the episode that cemented for me that I was going to enjoy this series lol.

I went from, "I don't think I'm in the mood for HOD yet, I'll watch Breaking Bad first" to 8 seconds later watching some creepy masked dude drive a spike through someone's head. Okay, you have my attention. .
