No offense to your wife or girlfriend but she's not really helping and the reason is because she has too much knowledge in her head so she can't explain it to you properly. My suggestion is to read the books. I've read them seven times. Every time I was waiting for another book to come out, I went back and reread the previous books so I know a lot about the story and it's not easy to explain to someone who hasn't read them. But even if you don't read the books, just go back and rewatch the scene. The movies were not a disgrace to the book, they did a really great job. There's just so much in these books that it would be impossible to include all of the content and details.

2023-07-22 15:28:16 +0000 UTCokay so I’d like to make a point on something you discussed. when your wife was explaining to you how it works for a muggle born witch or wizard to acquire magic she didn’t explain the actual ORIGINS of “mudbloods”. muggle borns are BORN with magic, so they are the exact same as their witch/wizard counterparts in that regard. they don’t “learn” it like asked. secondly, the only reason why muggle borns are able to have magic (even if they have muggle parents, grandparents and so forth) is because they are descendants of squibs!! (squibs are people with either one or two magical parents but are born without the ability to perform magic) essentially wizard-born muggles. they are rare and argus filch, the care taker at hogwarts is an example of this. so it’s highly likely that hermione and lily had squibs in their family generations before them and the magic manifested in them! hope this is informative and helps :)

I've seen some terrible adaptations and these movies, while they do have some big flaws. are pretty accurate and faithful to the source material. Also she is wrong they didn't have the potion when Lupin was in school. That's why the womping willow was created as a pathway to the shrieking shack, Because Lupin go there to turn into a werewolf so he wouldn't attack anyone. Werewolf's don't really attack other animals unless provoked so as animagi his friends could hang out with him. As for the sister, in the books, she sent a letter to Hogwarts asking to be a student there, but because she didn't have any magical ability she was denied. I think she doesnt want to say things that are in future books even if they don't make their way into the future movies

You are supposed to think he wants to attack Harry at first but then you realize all he wanted was the rat (Peter). He pulled Ron into the tree (who had Peter in his pocket). Harry followed and found his way into the tree. Sirus’s target was Peter from the get go. It never was harry. You get more in the books about Ron’s rat being “sick” and acting weird. So you have more of a context that something is weird about the rat. Ron blames this on the presence of herminones new cat. However, it’s because the rat heard the news of Sirius escaping and he knew he was going to try to kill him. In the books herminones cat plays a huge role in helping Sirius because he knows the rat isn’t a real rat. He knew the rat was up to no good and a bad person. Herminones cat is smart like her and is a bit magical himself. In this world animals can have magical properties too. Then the attack on Sirius as a dog was not portrayed well either. Lupin was going to attack the kids. He kind of just stands there in the movie but he was actively attempting to go after the kids in the book, so sirus attacks lupin first to protect the kids. Then they fight and sirus gets hurt and the dementors come to suck his soul out.

She said it in the first movie she was the only one in the family that could see what Harry's mom was and she called her a freak. The reason he was left with them if I'm not mistaken it was to hide him from voldamorts followers if I'm not mistaken the muggle smell or essence hid harry from anyone looking for him. So even tho they hated him that was the safest place for him at the time.

I was honestly tempted to write a "Things to know" list before you watch to help explain some things without spoilers, but I know your wife will explain them :). The Aunt being jealous isn't really a big thing, it just helped explain the "cupboard under the stairs" residence of Harry's. She was jealous because Lilly (Harry's mother) was a witch and "perfect" (I assume Lily got more attention than Aunt Petunia, when they were kids but I digress) and she wasn't.

When they were kids Harry’s dad and Sirus would use their big animal bodies to prevent lupin from attacking innocent people. Harry’s dad turned into a large stag. Harry’s patronus is also a stag representing how he carries his dads love and character in the deepest part of his heart.
