H.O.T.D. PILOT FULL REACTION

Comments

Finally getting around to watching this one. Jousting did take skill as a rider and strength. This isn't real jousting. hitting a horse or opponent was illegal and resulted in a disqualification and shame. You were supposed to hit the shield and that is how it was scored. They also didn't fight to the death like they show here. Remember back to the hound jumping down to stop the mountain from killing Loras during the jousting they showed in GOT. This is all theater and barely resembles real jousting. Why in the world would you be killing off the best men who you need on your side in a war.

I still dont think that Daemon said the whole thing in the bar, the Hightowers have considerable pull with the citadel and would be easy to implant false evidence. It was quite convienent that when Otto was being dressed down by viserys for trying to discredit daemon, I find it suspisous. I belive that daemon would have owned up to it if he had said it and him leaving solidifies Ottos hold over Viserys in listening to his counsel most instead of Daemon. Daemon is all about his house's words fire and blood, with that he values strength of the mind and combat as well as independence. I think he let Viserys believe that he had said it as a fine if you cast me as the villain of this, I will play as you believe so little in me. At least thats what I think...

Temeculous

Viserys was married to his cousin🤓

gak9319

Viscerys was married to his sister, so yes there’s a lot of family closeness in this Targeryian era.

Susan B

Essentially, HOTG is about why Kings Landing can’t have nice things.

Susan B

When Viserys said "I will not sit here and suffer crows that came to feast on their corpses" he was speaking metaphorically. Meaning sitting and listening to his council that are all attempting to take advantage of his wife and son's death to further their own agendas.

Okay time to catch up lol. So much to say in this one lol. This show is definitely far more visually pleasing than GOT but to be fair tech has advanced quite a bit since then. I. Daemon is a very complicated character. When he went out with the city watch and did what he did they were rounding up actual criminals. Instead of arresting them though he basically dished out on the spot justice. Castration for rapists (Which I'm all for), hand cut off for thieves (That one is a bit much as the punishment doesn't fit the crime) and beheading for murderers (All for this one as well). The city was becoming overrun with crime so he saw this as a quick way to settle things down before all the guests for the tournament arrived. Obviously it was a bit harsh but the intent was to clean up the streets quickly. I. As far as incest goes you have to understand that during this time most Tragaryens are married to a relative. For instance King Viserys wife who died giving birth was his first cousin. I know it's gross but unfortunately it's just how it is lol. I. When the king had to make the decision of what to do in the birthing scene the wife was dying either way. He could either do nothing and they likely both die or do the barbaric version of a C section and the baby would have some kind of chance to live. It's just that the queen would have to suffer unimaginable pain. Obviously it sucked she had to go through that for nothing. Ok, I'm gonna finish the episode now lol. Sorry for the odd spacing. When I hit enter on my phone keypad it posts the comment rather than moving the cursor to the next line. Can't figure out how to get it to do it lol.

51:19 the fourth book in the Game of Thrones saga is called “A Feast for Crows”. So that was an Easter egg for us book readers. Also haven’t you noticed how the dialogue in this series waxes poetically more than Game of Thrones? It almost sounds like Shakespeare.

Nettles

A Knight's Tale is a glorious movie! Definetly worth a reaction!

Hugobertram Wasenloge

Afaik it's also added for the series and not in the source

Hugobertram Wasenloge

oh no! lol i just have always loved daemon and characters like him it’s my weakness. i at first thought that he wasn’t attractive enough to play daemon but in the first episode i understood. his charisma is amazing

kallista

I like him because I love Matt Smith and don't see him as anything but Dr. Who, so this is just another Phone Box adventure.

EndlessRiver

I will admit I was a bit surprised to have watched the pilot to breaking bad and then to wake this morning to find a second drop of house of dragons… well played sir

John Dodo

haha i knew that you wouldn’t like daemon. but i’m attracted to characters like him for some reason, even if they aren’t great people. he’s also entertaining for sure.

kallista

I like to think that since all the Dragons had been extinct for some time in Game of Thrones, no one knew what Dragons smelled like, and everyone just thought Daenerys smelled bad, lol.

Alicia Hauskins

Season 1 is kinda like a prelude to the show itself so be prepared for a lot of stuff being passed over and time jumps.

Alyssa Dyson

The story was not passed to daenaerus because it was only passed to the Heirs to the throne; Mad king was taken out and if he had passed that on to his heir, they probably were killed too. Darnaerus a) never would have been an heir as a woman, b) was a baby when the mad king was killed

Matt Rumsey

Daemon's introduction is a bit off-putting but he means well. Alicent is Otto Hightower's, the hand, daughter. Remember the "every time a new Targaryen was born the gods would flip a coin" line from GoT? Incest is common for Targaryens and so is insanity every now and again. The Mad King was married to his sister for example.

JM

"What happened to all these things"; Robert Baratheon mismanaged it for his reign I guess

Matt Rumsey

That knife is the same knife that Arya used to delete the night king. and was used by the assassin who attempted to delete bran.

Ashley

only compete psychopaths like episode one daemon. but if you are normal he grows on you over time.

Ashley

I'm calling it now, you're going to hate most of the characters by the end of season 1, yet still love the show lol. Also, I don't believe this is a spoiler, because everyone knew about it before episode 1 even aired, but there are a couple of major time jumps in season 1. Some of the younger actors/actresses are recast in the middle of the season, due to how long the time jump is. So don't get too attached to any of the actors yet.

CAPTAINxCOOKIES

The Joker, King Robert, The Vision, and Wash from Firefly. FLIPPIN STACKED CAST.

Ashley

I over exaggerated lol, it'll be little under a year if we're lucky... But should only be little over a year at the most.

Christopher Wichman

Those terrible wigs fill me with laughter lmao This show is fast food. Empty calories and you still feel hungry after.

Slimsycentaur37

2 years???

Lenear Boyd

Jousting always makes me think of one of my favorite movies of all time. "A Knight's Tale" Starring Heath Ledger. Its also got a bunch of other great actors including Robert Baratheon from Game of Thrones. As well as Paul Bettany and Alan Tudyk. Its a Sports Comedy about Jousting in the middle ages. It should be a must watch for all movie reactors.

Ashley

The Caesarian section going down the middle is how they used to do it originally, the smaller incision down just above the pelvic bone is relatively new. Well, within half a century I think. That's not 'The' tree from Winterfell. Trees like that with the white bark, red leaves and faces that cry blood-colored sap are called 'Wyerwood' or 'God Trees' and used to range the entire continent of Westeros. When they mention 'The Old Gods and the New' the New Gods are the Seven you've heard spoken so much about. The 'Old Gods' are said to be represented in the physical world by the Wyerwood. That tree was cut down by the time of GoT and we saw Sansa praying at it's stump. And yes, Daemon Targaryan is a Prince. He's the King's Brother. Prince/Princess is a royal title but not exclusive to the offspring of the current King. Surprised you didn't make a crack about 'Evil Doctor Who' (Matt Smith, the actor playing Daemon Targaryean, was most notable before this for playing the 11th incarnation of The Doctor on Dr. Who) The 'useless scene' was actually useful. It laid-out who Daemon was in relation to the crown as well as his other titles, the name of his Dragon, and that he wields 'Dark Sister', a legendary Valeryan Steel sword wielded by the fiercest warrior among Aegon the Conqueror's sister/wives (expect stupid action-movie style sword-type shennanigans from Daemon with that thing) Also, the 'lady of the evening' he was with there also bade him speak where he let-slip that famous faux pas was also the woman he introduced to his dragon at the end there. She's not a background character, she has a part to play in the coming story. Edit: Also, remember what Visareys said about Targaryans controlling the Dragons being an illusion? Foreshadowing!

Molly McAllister

I agree definitely better in show format since the book is basically a history book and second hand info and alot wasn't truly confirmed in the book

Convulsion Gaming

Great series. What is super impressive is that they built the entire interior of the red keep as one set piece. From the small council chamber the bedrooms the throne room were all 1 giant set that way they can do long walking shots through the castle. Daemons dragon is actually a deformity dragons were created using magic to crossbreed wyverns and fireworms and his dragon is particularly aggressive.

Convulsion Gaming

I really hate that wagon they ride around in. Why is it grey? it looks like an untextured 3d model or an unpainted figurine.

Ashley

Also yes it is the dagger that Arya used to kill the night king

Brandon Tracy-Hurst

I feel like HoD is as good as peak GoT if not better. The storyline book material alone is awesome. It's even better when put into a show imo.

Joseph LeRoy

Something to remember. incest is 100% normal in the Targaryen family and Valyrian families. Daemon probably will grow on you to a certain extent. He is a character you hate to love, and he is George RR Martin's favorite Targaryen. He was right about some most things though. Sadly, at that time if you committed one of those crimes those were the punishments. The king is kind of soft and you can see that the hand does and says pretty much whatever he pleases as well as using his daughter to get close to the king when he is in a vulnerable state. The long night story was only passed from king to heir so Dany wouldn't have known it. If it was passed down only the Mad King and Rhaegar would've known about it.

Joseph LeRoy

I believe the reason the song of ice and fire wasn't passed down to GOT time is because Aerys and Rhaegar were both killed and a non-targaryen took the throne.

Brandon Tracy-Hurst

They have already begun filming it in March. It will be out in just over a year at the latest, likely earlier.

Drewcliff82

Hell yes !!!!!! I'm gonna love this HOTD and BB doubles for the next 10 weeks.

Drewcliff82

i’m so excited for this one too omg

kallista

Another journey in this madness of a world begins. Let's gooo

Billy

I'm fucking pumped dude. Not excited to wait two more years for season 2.
