FULL METAL JACKET FULL REACTION

I'm bit late to this one, but Private "Pyle" was drafted, so it's the Marine Corps or jail. He's clearly developmentally challenged. Part of an initiative championed by Robert McNamara, to increase the size of the armed forces during the Vietnam war. Mostly they got themselves or their fellow soldiers killed🫣

I wish I could search your patreon posts. In order to find this all these months later, I had to look up when the youtube video was posted and then filter the patreon posts by month.

I know the instructors really are that hilarious, which makes really tough when you gotta maintain your military bearing.

Actually R. Lee Ermey had already been in a couple of movies before this. He had a small part as a helicopter pilot in Apocalypse Now and he was a Drill Instructor in "The Boy's in Company C". Also there was a magazine in that marines rifle. It was just one of the original 20 rnd magazines. That's what they were originally issued with it wasn't till later in the war that 30 rnd magazines became standard..

Harold Ashworth

2 live crew sampled the "me love you long time horny" whole quote thing in their most popular song.. ..and the seven year itch is a saying that suggests after the 7th year of marriage that is when most people step out of the marriage and cheat. Great reaction to a classic 👌

Elizabeth DeMerie

One more thing. As long as there has been wars there has been psychos like that guy in the helicopter shooting civilians joining up for no other reason than to kill legally. The Vietnam War was the height of this as it was very easy to get away with. Contrary to popular belief in modern times from the Gulf War and on it is very difficult to get away with and if you kill civilians or even enemy combatants under the wrong circumstances you will most always get caught and pay the price. A recommendation for great War movies is "Saving Private Ryan" and "We Were Soldiers".

This was directed by Stanley Kubrick who also did "The Shining" and "A Clockwork Orange" which arr both amazing movies and similar filming style. I went through Army basic training in 06. Drill Sargents speaking this and putting hands in people was still very much a thing at that time. Now they can't get physical, use offensive language and have a much tougher time training people to be hard individuals. The first few weeks of training is spent breaking everyone down physically and mentally. After that they build you back up with proper training. Operating under intense stress is very important. There is always at least 1 private Pyle in basic training. They usually get weeded out but in this instance he was likely drafted and had no choice.

I apologize for my mistake. I didn't mean to be disrespectful. Thank you for pointing it out, I'll keep it in my mind.

Gotta checkout 1917 if you'd like another good war film

Halfway through, and you keep saying soldiers. In respect, they aren’t soldiers, they are marines. Otherwise so far another amazing reaction.

Matthew Truesdell

it just blows my mind that you didnt know who Gomer Pyle is. I get it.... I just keep forgetting how young you are. it was a an old black and White TV show about a goof ball in the marines. Gomer Pyle was played by Jim Neighbors. I was young when it was on tv. I knew you would get the "me so honry reference being a hip hop fan. 2 live crew made it famous in that song. I am hip hop head and have beem since it conception, but that is one of the worst songs in hip hop history. just my opinion.

These days the military to a point actually gives somewhat of a damn for mental state. My step dad was in Vietnam refers to today’s military as “soft” and “candy ass” but also understands today’s tactics. And 🤣🤣🤣 back then and especially if you were drafted? You didn’t have option of “Mannnnnnn this shit just isn’t for me” and quit. On top of that, the job of the Drill Sargent and basic was to tear down and rebuild. The physical part the easy part.

Trucker RollinThick

so I can comment on this, I was in basic training and there was a recruit who was constantly getting us in trouble, and they do it the same way they did it in the movie, everyone BUT you gets punished and they "hint" that you should correct their behavior, but beatings? That only happened once in my boot camp

Nate D.

also in vietnam, people were treated like this, and drill sergeants did cuss, hit recruits, e.t.c, if they were recruits at all, i cant remember if they were recruits or drafted

Nate D.

just fyi, the actor drill sergeant had never acted before, he was just there as kubricks guy to make sure everything was realistic, but r lee emery was funnier and more natural, so he hired him to do this role... and the majority of his jokes were just him making it up as he went along, he was a drill sergeant in the past, very unfortunately he passed away a few years ago, but this role will never be forgotten, gunnery sergeant hartman was one of the best characters ever

Nate D.

Oh boy. Poor Leonard.
