Winter Outage
Added 2021-02-18 00:27:01 +0000 UTCSeveral years ago, I lived in a slum apartment, and during my last winter there, there were a few weeks where the power, water, heat, or some combination of two or all three would just conk out for an indefinite period of time thanks to dilapidated pipes, wiring, and a callously indifferent slumlord (who was admittedly too busy evading criminal charges to bother with disgruntled tenants).
And that sucked pretty bad. Winter without the basic necessities is exponentially more awful than it already is, but I could still leave the house or make enough noise to eventually get things going again after a day or two...
...unlike a whole lot of folks who are dealing with being unexpectedly caught out under winter right now. I know a few Texans follow me—including my friend Sandy—and I wish I had more resources at my command than just warm wishes/thoughts/lewd humor.
Regardless, if you’re able to read and view this silliness, I hope that means you’re at least reasonably, survivably somewhat warm and safe and that you get the help you need. Thinking of you up here in the cold north.
