Rose Implement


A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. A gift of love, a sign of life, a remembrance of that which was lost, all carried within the power of a rose. A rose implement symbolizes emotion and its expression through that which we give and receive from others. Rose implements are associated with the harrow suit of the crown and the astrological signs of the newlyweds and the mother.


Initiate Benefit

A mere touch or smell of a rose can percolate the mind. You gain the Stop and Smell the Roses reaction.


Stop and Smell the Roses [reaction]

Emotion Enchantment Magical Manipulate Mental Olfactory Thaumaturge 

Trigger The target of your Exploit Vulnerability causes you or an adjacent ally to attempt a save.

Requirements You are holding your rose implement, and the triggering creature is within 30 feet of you.

You present your rose for a quick smell, lifting the spirit and steeling oneself against harm. You or your ally gain the effect based on the type of save that triggered the effect.


Fortitude Love bursts within, granting strength against the triggering effect. You or the triggering ally gains a +1 status bonus to the save, or +2 status bonus if the save would impose the grabbed, prone, or restrained conditions.

Reflex A burst of life pulses within like the moves of a dance. You or the triggering ally gains a +1 status bonus to the save and can immediately Step. If your triggering ally Steps, they must use their reaction to do so.

Will Death is but a step on the journey, a rise of life. You or the triggering ally gains a +1 status bonus to the save, or a +2 status bonus if the triggering save was an emotion effect.



Adept Benefit (7th)

The rose is not only beautiful, but has thorns. You gain the Thorny Imposition action.


Thorny Imposition [one-action]

Flourish Magical Plant Thaumaturge

Requirements You are holding your rose implement and you do not already have an active Thorny Imposition.

Your rose erupts into a strangling vine that latches onto another creature within 20 feet. The effects last until the end of your next turn, but the creature can attempt to Escape or destroy your rose vine. The vine can also be attacked by the creature or others to break it and its AC is equal to your class DC and it has a number of Hit Points equal to twice your level. Creatures that move outside the vines range or attempt to Escape take persistent bleed damage equal to half your level. You must stay within 20 feet of the target while your vine is attached, though you can Dismiss it. The target must attempt a Reflex save against your class DC.


Critical Success The target is unaffected.

Success The target takes a –5-foot circumstance penalty to its Speed as long as it is within 20 feet of you.

Failure The target takes a –10-foot circumstance penalty to its Speed and cannot move more than 20 feet away from you until it Escapes.

Critical Failure The target is immobilized until it Escapes.


Intensify Vulnerability (9th)

When a creature is wrapped in your vine, you can use any location along its path for your roses’ powerful scent. You treat allies adjacent to targets of your Thorny Imposition or adjacent to the path of its vine as adjacent to you for your Stop and Smell the Roses reaction and if the triggering save was a Reflex save, your ally can Step as a free action instead of spending its reaction.


Paragon Benefit (17th)

Your rose’s scent extends to anyone near it. When you use Stop and Smell the Roses, you grant the bonus to saves to all allies you could normally target with the ability until the end of your next turn instead of against the triggering save.

Hey just a heads up because the intensify vulnerability keys off the 7th level feature it locks players out of taking Rose as their third implement because they won't have the adept benefit.
