New Fighter Subclasses: Fighting Techniques
Added 2023-03-29 16:00:50 +0000 UTCFighting Techniques
Fighting Technique are a set of strategies and martial techniques used by warriors who favor being specialized combatants rather than shifting through multiple fighting variations depending on the situation. A Fighting Technique replaces Attack of Opportunity at 1st level, and reduces the proficiency in all weapons of weapon groups aside from the ones listed in a Fighting Technique by one stage. In exchange, Attack of Opportunity becomes a 6th level feat, you gain your maximum level of proficiency in all simple, martial and advanced weapons of your weapon group, and you gain the special action listed in the combat style.
────────────
Guisarmier
Weapon Group polearms
You specialize in weapons that keep you at a distance from your enemies. Bladed weapons with long staves are just the tool for the job. With lashing movements and sweeping swings, you control the battlefield from an arm’s length in a way no other warrior can. You gain the Repelling Lash reaction.

Fighter
Trigger a creature enters a space adjacent to you, and you are wielding a weapon in the polearm group.
You sweep out with your polearm to prevent entry into your space. Your weapon gains the Trip trait if it did not already. You make a Trip check against the approaching creature.
────────────
Scrapper
Weapon Group brawling
You like to get up close and personal with your attacks, enhancing your unarmed strikes with weapons. You dive head first into perilous situations, using your guts to ensure victory while using such short-range weapons. You gain the Combat Momentum class feature.
Combat Momentum
Battle is not a stationary affair for you; it is a fast paced and ever-changing ordeal which you put your whole body into. When you successfully Strike an opponent with a weapon from the brawling group, you push your target back 5 feet. You Stride after it, moving in the same distance and in the same direction. This is forced movement.
────────────
Catapultist
Weapon Group sling
Very little is as effective as a rock hurtling into the face of an enemy at breath-taking speeds. Slings are simple, effective, and dangerous in your hands. When a giant hurls a boulder, you shoot a stone; and with your speed, accuracy and propulsion, it is you who will come out on top. You gain the Slinging Menace class feature.
Slinging Menace
You concuss opponents with your mighty sling attacks, catching them off guard with the speed of your attacks. No mere pebbles, you hurl massive stones and even boulders with your slings. All of your sling attacks gain the Fatal D12 trait, or Deadly D12 if the slings damage dice was already a D12. If your sling has reload 1, you can reload it when you Stride.
Comments
I love the idea of weapon groups as fighter 'sub-class', and would love to see this expanded upon in a future Fighters+. Also as a GM, fighters don't really need Attack of Opportunity at level 1 lol. They're already beasts.

2023-04-15 15:08:27 +0000 UTCTo clarify, a catapultist for example, would be expert in slings and trained in all other weapons at level 1. And at level 5 they would be a master in all slings and still trained in all other weapons?
