Its been too long. At least I dont come with empty hands. Besides bringing you a new vid, I have a couple of announcements for you.
Firstly, I'm roughly gonna go back to the old upload schedule. From my perspective, this year has been much worse compared to last year when I weigh the effort put in against the actual video at the end. At the beginning of this year I wanted to try leaving the deadline for a video a bit more open than before with the goal of working on a project and not thinking too much about time constrains. And don't get me wrong there are benefits to this and I'm very grateful you folks were cool with that approach, its just that without a set deadline for a vid, the project just grows and grows until it no longer resembles what it was supposed to be in the beginning. This new vid is a good example because initially I set out to do a ~15 minute video on Stop and Frisk and the end result is the longest video I've made so far talking about systemic racism. I seem to work much better when I set myself the goal of 1 vid per month or more. If I want to do a project that exceeds this I'll let you folks know in the monthly content update.
Secondly, the video for Patrons is gonna be a draft version from here on out. Usually I finish the video 100% before uploading it for you folks but I think this way fits much better. Not only will you be able to see the video earlier, but it also gives me some time to react to your feedback and fix some format issues or audio problems. The downside is that the Patreon version might not always already include the credits or you'll notice some pictures where they shouldnt pop up (like in this video). Before it goes public, all these issues will be fixed though.
I wanted to talk about systemic racism on my channel for a while now but the topic just always seemed very overwhelming when it came to condensing my research into a single video. With the current Corona crisis and the recent democratic primary I found myself a vehicle in Ben Shapiro. The video itself isnt really about Ben but systemic racism and why so many people on YouTube have trouble understanding how it manifests. I'm curious about your thoughts. The next video WILL BE OUT IN ROUGHLY 3 WEEKS. I'm writing it here to set myself a deadline ha. After talking about the Nazis, war crimes and racism, I think we all deserve to have a good laugh so I'm gonna do an in-depth review of Dave Rubins new book. After that I wanna do something more history related again.

LOVE this video. Nothing better than sweet graphs depicting the nuance required in discussing something as pervasive and complex as systemic racism. But of course, as Cody points out (as Dan points out), Ben is either stupid or a liar, or both, and stupid liars can’t do the maths. Although I think I spot one flawed rebuttal to Ben Shapiro's arguments about mass incarceration and drug sentencing. Ben didn't say that moving 5 grams of crack cocaine was as easy as moving half a kilo of powder cocaine. He simply said it’s easier to move, implying that the lawmakers who passed the laws that account for the discrepancy in the sentencing wanted to – no pun intended – crack down harder on a drug that posed a much bigger health and societal risk than powder cocaine given how much easier it was to sell. The better answer to Ben’s statement is to ask “to whom is crack easier to sell,” given the major differences between them, which according to just a really quick search I did, is that crack is much cheaper and has a much more powerful effect on its user (something Ben even mentions) and is more addictive. The answer, given this difference, is that crack is easier to sell to impoverished people, and cocaine to more affluent people. It’s then just a short jump to find out whether or not there’s a correlation between being Black and being lower income at the specific time and place in which these laws apply (and I’m willing to bet based on what we know of American history that there is). Then we’d have to start arguing with Ben about why the Black Americans were over-represented in lower income households, but that’s just how arguments with these dudes go, after all. Circular logic. But yeah.
