Mississippi is live

Update 2.44 (Mississippi), better known as the Deepwoods, Night One, part one update, is now live. A decent chunk of content, a bit shy of what I had planned for, but still a good amount. There's also new art, and new fan art. Let's delve in to things.

The deepwoods finally has its first piece of content. An encounter with an amphibian. Right now, you can observe him, or you can try to rob him. Both of these routes are almost done, with one option missing from each. If this week had gone a bit smoother, they would have been completely done. But more on that later.

Accompanying the new scene, there's a pretty darn neat piece of artwork by Rydoq, a guest-artist for Kobold Adventure. On top of drawing a great painting of the main character of the new scene, he's also working on depicting Rolande's store. The thing he drew was massive in size (6000x6000 pixels, over 14 MB big), so I had to shrink it down by about half to put in the game. Good stuff!

On top of the new in-game artwork, there's also a new piece of fan art, made by NekoFY. Here's one version of it:

If you have any fan art or fanfiction, feel free to send it to me at your own behest! If your stuff gets added to the fan art gallery, you get a special spot in the credits, and everyone who finds their way to the fan art page will be able to see or read your contribution!

The new scene was guestwritten by GeneralJerkface, who did an amazing job at providing the foundations of the naga encounter. I did end up rewriting almost everything, but the concept and the general flow of things were well-established. A good foundation for me to build on!

As mentioned, writing did not progress as smoothly as I would have liked this week. Two main reasons. Firstly, the server stuff. In my previous post, I told you guys about the server issues I was having. Those drained a pretty significant amount of writing time, and they took a lot of willpower and determination to fix. Boy, was that a bloody terrible day. I feel like I still haven't recovered fully from it.

The second issue that hindered, and continues to hinder my writing, is my keyboard. It's starting to fall apart, basically. Several keys are struggling to work, and the O key, in specific, is completely FUBAR.

Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. Occasionally, it'll work with a small delay. Then, there's times where it'll give me two characters for a single keypress. In the worst of cases, I get one O immediately, and then a second one a few milliseconds (enough for a keypress or two) later. Not very handy, when writing a game where the main character is a kObOld. I've ordered a new keyboard, which should arrive near the end of the month. Or earlier, depending on the mail. Until then, it's O-hell for me.

Note that there is a small known issue with hitting a dead end in the new scene. If you have a save made before the update, that is already in the Deepwoods, when you hit the dead end, and you revert, then you will have five stamina less, than you would if you'd just reloaded your save instead. Sounds complicated? That's because it is.

This effect can only happen once total, as far as I know, so repeatedly hitting the dead end and reverting should not drain your stamina further. Fixing this bug would be a major pain in the butt, and new saves (made since this update) will not be affected. I think. As such, I'm just going to leave it in, for now. It's too minor of an issue to justify spending half an hour to fix it.

Furthermore, while decently tested, the update wasn't proofread very well. Please do report any typos you find, or issues you encounter, so that I can fix them after I've arisen from my sarcophagus.

Red, surprisingly, won the latest character sheet poll. You'll be getting to know her a little bit better on the fifteenth next month, give or take. I thought Blue would win that one with ease; but Red's pretty interesting, too! Stay tuned for more information on the feisty, scarlet kobold.

I feel like shit. I think I'm getting a little ill. I'm going to go take a shower, and then hit the hay. I'll decide what's next on the menu, or maybe put up a poll, tomorrow.  That's all for now, folks. Thank you all for your continued interest in kobold carriages, and we'll see you all next time for a new infosession on how to best care for your lizard baby.
