Added 2021-04-25 17:39:06 +0000 UTCIn two days we celebrate the birth of our king, Willem Alexander. Or how most of us call him king Willy. He is a cool sympathetic guy with a beautiful wife and three teenage daughters.
It's a big happening, this day everyone will dress up in Orange and all the towns and cities will be packed with people. Shops will do a sellout in front of the store. Music on the streets and children selling their old toys to earn some pocket money.
Every city would at least have 1 festival and it's allowed to drink on the streets.
A perfect day if the weather is good but soso if the weather is bad. You need to move your ass towards a pub and enjoy your day inside.
Unfortunately, it's all canceled this year but that makes it even bigger next year!

I'm not sure how the tradition of wearing graduation caps arose, Stella. I think it's also done in Sweden and Denmark.

Especially barefoot, you can feel the ground under your feet, its coolness... 👍We had a lot of snow in the winter - the forest is still very wet - I have to wear rubber boots... But how much i want to walk on the ground barefoot too!..

2021-04-25 17:57:01 +0000 UTCSome parts of America are opening up so because of vaccinations. So I expect our Memorial Day and July 4th celebrations will be somewhat normal. I hope US government will send vaccines to where they are needed so countries can get back to some semblance of normalcy sooner. So Stella will you and your parents and friends have some celebration at home?

2021-04-25 17:55:51 +0000 UTCYeah, May 1 is usually a big celebration here, when people of all ages wear their white graduation caps, visit shops in the market squares, and gather on the outdoor terraces of bars to drink sima. Typically the alcoholic variety. Not this year. 😢 I hope we get the vaccine roll-out up to speed soon so we can have a normal 2022.
