Shelter Cover - Advent Day 12

Hello everyone,

Halfway to 24!

As we move forward, you'll see a surge in 'prototypes', 'concepts', and 'ideas'. Many are still in the early stages of development, but think of this as a sneak peek into the creative process. Just 12 more updates to go before we return to our regular schedule.

I'm excited to introduce Shelter Cove, a track inspired by the rugged terrain of Northern California. This track is a personal challenge I set for myself: to create a circuit that embodies the flow of a rollercoaster. Starting with a fairly long uphill climb, filled with twists, turns, and two tunnels cutting through the rough landscape, be sure to pick a car with some decent power, otherwise the climb can be a bit of a challenge.

The peak of the hill features a sharply banked hairpin, reversing the track's direction and leading into a sequence of corners that can only be described as a 'drop'. The descent is a high-speed thrill ride through some fantastic turns. I haven't measured the exact elevation change yet, but it's bloody huge.

Shelter Cove already boasts working AI, Replay Cams, and a Map.

A note on the tunnels: they're still under construction, so you can see right through them for now. Don't worry, though. If this track gains popularity, I'm committed to finishing it with all the attention to detail it deserves. I'm really passionate about this layout!

Thank you for your continued support.
Ty

This track is so much fun - cannot wait to drive it when it is finished!

I laid out the track map in Google Earth, and I got an elevation change of roughly 410 m (from 530 m at The Thumb to 120 m on the front straight). One issue that I've noticed on this, Thermalito, and Crest da Cauras is that the track description is out of sync with the actual track, in that they lag behind. As for Shelter Cover itself, it's an interesting and unique challenge, and is a huge challenge to drive with the way that the rolls of the terrain tend to shift grip. I'd love to see it developed further, with focus on improving runoff in some critical areas and making retaining walls solid. I have some thoughts on the track layout that I'll save for later, but the thing that I'll point out now is that on some of the corners with heavy camber, like The Thumb and the bottom of the hill, tend to cause lots of cars to bottom out on them.

The first lap I took of this track, that downhill section took me by surprise! I love this track, looking forward to seeing it finished!

I use triples. I prefer them to VR. I have an HP Reverb II and I like VR but because of my bad eyesight and glasses and (old age 79!) I find I can only use for brief amount of time. I will try it on VR at some stage. I just love your scenic hilly tracks as I am a driver rather than a racer. With the motion platform they are just great.

Hi Patrick, what cars are you setting 2:40s in? Sounds like a target to beat!

Hi Tony, glad you like it! I can only imagine this on a Motion Platform, bust be a blast! are you using VR as well? What cars have you been using?

Tyrone - Racetracks & Models

This is a fantastic track! The feels cresting the top and the car hitting low in the turns, and then the drop! I was running smooth 2:40s, and kept finding myself saying, "One more lap." It is so much fun, and even though it's early, it looks great. This is going to be such a fantastic track to watch develop. LOVE...THIS...WORK!

Really hope this proves popular enough for you get the support to finish it to your normal brilliant standard. The drop from the top with a motion platform leaves my stomach behind !
