North Wilkesboro Speedway 2023 - Historic Sim Studios Collaboration

As promised earlier, here is the result of my Collaboration with Historic Sim Studios

North WIlkesboro 2023!
It was quite a tight push to get this circuit ready for the real life race on May 21st so I hope you enjoy it. My experience with short oval tracks is admittedly quite small, so this project was great fun to develop. There's a lot I have learned from this that will improve my future releases.

2023 North Wilkesboro Speedway Features:

• Reliance on lidar data, publicly available survey data, and ariel photogrammetry for track details and driving surface mesh.
• Scoretower has changing digital displays.
• 3D Tree features.
• Accurate trackside buildings and objects to reflect the track as it will be for the 2023 NASCAR All-Star race.
• New extended pit lane with 36 pits.
• Fine tuned AI for competitive oval racing (yes! even in AC).

Situated about five miles east of North Wilkesboro town, North Carolina, and 80 miles north of Charlotte, the North Wilkesboro Speedway is a short, oval racing track found along U.S. Route 421. The track spans 0.625 miles and is distinctively designed with an uphill backstretch and a downhill frontstretch.

The Speedway has a rich history with NASCAR, hosting 93 Winston Cup Series races as one of the original tracks since NASCAR's establishment in 1949. Operations ran continuously until a temporary closure in 1996. A brief revival came in 2010, during which time the track held several races from various stock car series such as the ASA Late Model Series, USARacing Pro Cup Series, and PASS super late models. However, operations were again halted in the spring of 2011.

The track saw a renaissance in August 2022 when it reopened for grassroots racing. It's scheduled to host the prestigious 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race and a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. There are also plans for additional enhancements and improvements to the facility following these events.
