Behind The Scenes: 60's Living Room

This week I set a goal for myself to create an interior in style of my previous ones, so at first I just laid back and though about different options and inspirations, that might come to mind. I used a small thought exercise, where I closed my eyes and tried to recall different interiors I walked through in recent years. One by one, I visited my old job offices, friends apartments.
I couldn't find anything I like, so I ventured into some artificial memories of TV shows and movies, that were really strong on interior spaces. And I stumbled upon a memory of a Mad Men show. If you never saw it, I strong recommend it. The way they walk you through the fashion of the decades of 50's, 60's and 70's is amazing.

And I vividly remembered, how the transition into 60's was most staggering. Almost felt like going from a black and white movie into color show. Simple and modern architecture and vibrant colors.
I created a new Pinterest board and started to collect different 60's interior shots. I focused on ones, that were modern and colorful and had a lot of Scandinavian style furniture.
There were a lot of different details I liked, so I saved them one by one, even if it meant a lot of different styles on one board.

After I had quite a lot of shots collected, I dragged them into PureRef board (great reference software) and started to crop only the small details I wanted to include. This way, I filtered out the whole spaces and got a board, that's more focused and basically serves as a list of objects I need to include.
I sketched out the room proportions and placed the window according to one of the mood shots. The rest was a bit of a puzzle game, where I tried to sketch in different pieces of furniture, starting with the main items like sofa, conference table, reading chair and TV set.
Once I got those, it was easy to fill in empty spaces with the rest of the cropped details from the board, like vinyl decorative wall, clock, music player and different lamps and vases.
