Behind The Scenes: Algorithm

This week, I wanted to show you more practical approach to 3D illustration. I always get a lot of inquires on how the skills I show can be applied in the real world. There are many websites and brands, that choose to use 3D illustration as their expression and communication tool and all of this work is handled by 3D illustrators.

Since I'm focusing mostly on education content lately (although I serve some clients occasionally), I can choose what I create and have fun while doing it. But to give you more context on how these skills can be applied, I challenged myself to work with theme.

This is a result of what I would probably come up with, if client reached out about stylized isometric illustration, that shows social media algorithm at work in fun and illustrative way.

This could be useful for any company or brand, that deals in social media space, such as SaaS and analytics websites, content strategy agencies, you name it.

As always, I attacked the Pinterest and Google Images first to get some fresh perspective on the topics. I use queries such as "social media isometric", "algorithm illustration" and "isometric illustration". Pinterest is especially amazing tool. If you see one image that matches your preference, you just click through and you get much more similar results.

I've gathered lots of cute, stylized and isometric illustration ranging from infographics, to more abstract and geometric compositions. It gave me lots of ideas regarding color combinations, level of stylization and composition.

I've done similar compositions before, but now I wanted to make this one more focused with dominant central element. I really loved few 2D illustrations, that used brain motive to explain algorithms and machine learning, so I've decided to make it my central focus.

I've imagined a machine with the brain, that takes in themes and ideas (social posts) on the conveyor belt, analyzes them and let's you know how the users react using the screen with heart emoji.

The rest was a bit of trial and error with the pencil, trying to sketch out proportions of the central piece, shape of the belt and some additional details, that would make the scene more interesting and support the theme. After adding clock, some cooling tower and fan, I've decided to sprinkle in some abstract geometry, that helps to tighten up the composition and gives one more level of detail

I would like to ask you to make a tutorial for a Patreon. Not all just 1 stuff in scene per week.😍
