Behind The Scenes: Peaky Blinders

I've jumped on the Peaky Blinders way into the show, when the series 5 was already out and I can't wait for another season. So much, that I just re-watched it recently and I instantly got  inspired to create a part of the scene set.

It's very important to have some downtime from work, because that's the time when your brain processes everything in the background and makes new connections. So by pursuing non-work related activities, like some TV shows, nature walks, or playing music, I always find new inspiration and drive to create stuff that I'm looking forward to.

So if you feel stuck and uninspired, simply let go for a while. Go for a walk, watch something, read a book, take on a new hobby. Don't expect anything from it and something might just pop up :)

It was a bit hard to get some good references for this one, because it's not like the internet is full of Peaky Blinders memes. I had to really dig out some screenshots and after a while I even made some of my own to have better view of the scenes.

The decision fell on the betting shop. You can see the energy of the place in the first and second episodes of the first season (did you notice the same music plays in both of those scenes?). I've gathered some angles and found really priceless floor plan, so I could see, how the podium is set up and what layout does the room have.

Then I tried to capture little details and some closer shops to be really able to make a bigger picture of the equipment, materials and furniture.

I've had to make some compromises for the layout, because the betting shop is more of a rectangular area with two sets of tables. So I compressed it a little bit and I think the more narrow podium with just one table was enough to capture the essence of the scene.

And again, this shows how the sketch part is really important to check out whether your ideas even work. So next time you're trying to figure something out, just take that pencil and try to lay it down. No matter how it looks, remember the purpose.

I've reorganized some elements, because the brick column with the lantern should be on the other side, which would be open here, so I just moved it to the other wall to have some visually interesting element.

See you in the next one! :)
