✨New Art//Hel and Baldur🖤

In the frigid realm of Helheim, where shadows caressed the souls of the departed, a forbidden love kindled between Hel, the mistress of the Underworld, and Baldur, the fallen god of light.  

🌟 Ooomigoodness! 😍🎨 I've had this little idea in my head for a while of Hel and Baldur having a romance. 💕 For those not familiar with the myth, here's a quick rundown. Baldur, the son of Odin, is the most beloved, and is 'blessed' so that nothing can ever hurt him except mistletoe. 🌿☘️ But alas, Loki's trickery leads to Baldur's heart being pierced by mistletoe, causing him to journey to Helheim, the realm of the dead, where Hel rules.

The gods ask if she will give him back, and she agrees but only if all beings in nature wept for him. And everyone, except a giantess (who was Loki in disguise), did. So Hel would not return him.

This story is part of the events that eventually lead to Ragnarok. 🌌 For a more detailed and entertaining retelling, I recommend checking out Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology book. 📚

Aaanyway, my little headcannon is that Hel falls in love with Baldur or perhaps the light and joy that he brings to her realm, and so of course she wouldn't want to give him back! 🌟💖

On a more technical note about the art, I did struggle with this one a fair bit, especially with Baldur's face and the angle of it. So you'll notice part way through the timelapse and the process steps that I basically redraw it entirely! 😅✏️
