So enjoyed watching all 3 films this weekend with your reactions. Seeing you experience them for the first time made it a whole new experience, even though I've seen these films more times than I can count. I can't believe it took you until the last 5 minutes to notice the Sam and Frodo gay subtext, I bet you will see a lot more if you ever watch the movies again. If you want even more blatant gay hobbits you should definitely watch The Hobbit movies. Would be sat and ready for your reactions if you wanted to continue.

You should watch Billy Boyd ( Pippin) sing Hit Me Baby One More Time, he has a great singing voice!

So, I have to tell you all... The second time my nephew watched these, he was probably 9ish, and I guess he didn't really understand the ending the first time so when he understood that Frodo was actually leaving for good, he asked "is he leaving his friends forever?!" My sister was trying to explain but he was just changed and he needed to find some other place to find peace, But my nephew just wept for like half an hour straight. 😭❤️😭❤️

So, the films added a scene where Eowyn says goodbye to Theoden but in the books he never knows she’s there and it’s Eomer he has the goodbye with. When she kills the Witch King, the evil from him causes her to suffer from the Black Breath, which is also what Faramir (and Merry who doesn’t go to the final battle either) are suffering from. It’s a near death like state that can be fatal if not treated and is a result of the darkness of the Nazgul. It’s why Eomer mistakes her for dead and why she has to be healed and therefore remain behind. It doesn’t quite work out in the films though since they gave her a goodbye to Theoden instead of immediately falling unconscious but they needed her to stay behind for the final battle, it’s how she meets Faramir

Someone prob mentioned this but this story was meant to be a representation of experiences during WWII I believe. So the eagles coming in during the battle are meant to be Americans who entered the war later on and helped sway the efforts against the N*zis. Had a colleague who took a LoTRs course with a Tolken (the author of the books) expert.

Loved your reactions to these movies! But yes everyone else explained already what happened with Frodo at the end. I too wish Arwen had more agency in this story but she had far less in the books so they at least gave her something here. I hope these are movies you continue to watch in your own time! I've watched them so many times when I need something comforting to watch. And the behind the scenes are just as fun to see all the special effects and effort they put into this series. Highly recommend to watch that on your own time!
