House of the Dragon S2 EP3 *unedited reaction*

If I were Rhaenyra and I heard that my Dad hadn’t waivered & still wanted me to be Queen, having lost my child, and fear of losing more, I would I believe let the Crown go. Just knowing he didn’t change his mind would be enough for me

MamaKat114

The red, green and yellow eggs in the case are indeed Daenerys's future dragons. I love this detail because Rhaenyra said they are sent to Pentos, and it was a Lord from Pentos who offered the eggs to Daenerys later.

Manon

I'm glad Alicent and Rhaenyra talked but what is Alicent to do? Mistake or not, Aegon was crowned in the Sept. By all means he is king now (and like Otto once said: in all 'legal' ways that matter) and Rhaenyra will have to take the throne back by force. Her council is getting too bold btw....it shows how they will always look to a man to make the desicions no matter what oath they swear. Also, Daemon tripping out in Harrenhal is hilarious because we rarely see him shaken. Could somebody correct me but are perhaps three of the eggs sent with Rhaena and the children the three eggs that Daenerys hatches in GOT? I'm genuinely curious because I thought that Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal were descendants of Syrax but some sources say the eggs were layed by another dragon. Crispy Cole is getting on my nerves and I can't believe there would ever be a moment I'd miss Otto Hightower but here it is, Aegon is hilarious but stupid af and Aemond...his character is really intresting but I can't stand him. Helaena is the only good person in the Red Keep. Also RIP Ser Erryk and baby Jahaerys

Ok good. It's a lot to keep straight. I commented that before watching this and its been a while since I've seen it. If I had watched this first, I would've known it was all pretty much laid out in this episode. Thanks for letting me know, I appreciate it.

FINALLY THE GIRLIES ARE TALKING TO ONE ANOTHER!!!!

✿ Spfraines ✿

Another thing that makes Rhaena's mission so important is it's not just Rhaenyra's sons, it's her youngest heirs then the eggs literally the future of house targaryen. I understand Rhaena's thinking but she really does have the most precious job of all. I also do like both Larys and Mysaria becoming master of whisperers in this episode, I do enjoy a good parallel.

mya

Yeah you’re correct. Which is one of the reasons why they emphasised the damp/wetness to the place, and how Simon strong knows that Lyonel & Harwin’s death was planned.

Brandon

It is really no advantage that they all name the children again and again after the same people xD

Pl0tta

Yes, you are correct about all of that.

Blackeyedlily

im not sure if you were aware so i thought i would let you know that the actor that plays rhaenyra (emma d'arcy) uses the pronouns they/them

aprilguilfoyle

Also Matt Smith was quoted as saying how intimidated he was to act with Simon Beale. The man is a monster of the theatre stage.

The Emerald Duchess

Tom Glynn Carney is who plays Aegon. Check out his music video with his band, Sleepwalking Animals. Name of the song is Wild Folk and it’s so beautiful. He’s a beautiful human.

The Emerald Duchess

I could be wrong, but isn't Harrenhal where Lord Lyonel Strong and Harwin Strong were killed in the fire Larys had set in Season 1 as well? (I avoid googling if possible) I thought I remembered they were "House Strong of Harrenhal". Also, I guess that means Larys would be Lord of Harrenhal then, right? With Ser Simon Strong as castellan of the castle when Daemon arrives. Hopefully, I understand it correctly.

Jessica Houser

I know we’re here for politics and stuff but lemme sidetrack for a second a say…Ser Gwayne Hightower 🤭😮‍💨 I’m team black but wow

Nastja

i think they meant (or this is how i understood it) is not to take a side so hard u dont see the problems with both sides. with this fandom in particular people go so hard on team green or team black that they tend to misunderstand the story. its way more fun to watch with an open mind (while also taking a side) but not root so hard for a side that u dont acknowledge the faults of the other

JennRosee

Thats literally what the ENTIRE marketing campaign of Season 2 was about lmfao, people asking him not to take sides goes completely against what the showrunners are aiming for.

Luana (TheWhiteDeer)

Great reaction Brad. Love having 4 in a row

I❤️movies&tvshows

Glad to see Brad shares the same opinion with the “mayhaps” and not wanting to see Cole’s face 🤣

kiara

fr!! i almost laughed when he said he was asked not to take sides the first time bc?? the show literally wants you to take a side 😭 the lines blur a lot but the showrunners quite literally wanted people to be team black or team green!

In response to a few of your questions and comments: Harrenhall, being the largest castle in the Seven Kingdoms, is desirable because it is in a very centralized location, not too far from the capital, and a good place to bring together an army. It was the location in Season One, at the very start of the first episode, where they held the Great Council to decide the succession of King Jahaerys. And the reason they held it there was because it was the only castle large enough to hold a meeting with most of the lords from throughout the realm. But it has been in ruins ever since Aegon the Conqueror began his conquest of Westeros there. You might remember when Arya was located there in Season Two of Game of Thrones. It was still a ruined castle at that time. The chain that Criston Cole is wearing around his neck, over his armor, is a chain of little gold hands clasping each other. This was actually what the Hand of the King wore in the books, as a chain of office is much more like the type of thing that would be worn for official positions during medieval times. The pin was something the show came up with. In the books Tyrion chocked Shae with the Hand of the King chain, which he found her wearing while lying in Tywin’s bed. I agree that Rhaena should be happy with the responsibility that Rhaenyra is giving her. This has been another small change from the books. In the books Rhaena and Baela are twins. Baela it’s very much a tomboy, while Rhaena is very much the proper young lady. And while Rhaena does pine for a dragon in the books, she is also quite happy with her assignment to be sent to the Vale. I also love the design of Moondancer. She is my favorite dragon so far. And lastly, I really liked the meeting between Rhaenyra and Alicent. This was something that many fans complained about when this season aired. It is a change from the books. Or you could think about it as something that the historians who wrote that book never knew about. A lot of fans thought it was unrealistic for Rhaenyra to take a chance like that. But I liked it precisely for the reason that Rhaenyra did learn that Alicent misunderstood her father‘s final words. I’m really looking forward to the next episode !

Blackeyedlily

To further emphasize what you said at the end Brad, Alicent misinterpreted Viserys’ words yes, but Otto and the small council had been plotting this from the beginning. Based on the manipulation from her father, she had raised her sons up to also believe that Rhaenyra would kill them all when Viserys died. Long before the literal war began, there was already a war, all the way back to the beginning of this series. There was too much scheming and contempt for this to ever go over peacefully and that’s on Viserys and Otto, really all the way back to King Jahaerys, Viserys’ and Rhaenys’ grandfather. Otto is the manipulator but Viserys was ignorant to the destruction of his family and placed his daughter at the helm of it, he had years to see it, but he avoided it. The thing that can get frustrating about this story is that the story is all about what leads up to the war (so, so many factors) and then the war. So the propaganda, strategy (no matter how ill-considered the choices), the people placed in positions of power are all centerfolds in this story — as Ser Simon Strong put in this episode, how sin begets sin begets sin and Rhaenys says “soon they will forget what began this war in the first place”. Of course, there are shortcomings in the writing and amount of episodes they were allowed to have, but the way this story is told is unique which I believe already sets it on a path to subverting expectations often to the detriment of the storytelling. The entire snippet of Targaryen history this show covers is no more than ~100 pages in the gargantuan book that is Fire & Blood.

idk why people ask him not to take sides when most of the fanbase do? like he is just as much allowed to take sides as everyone else does lmfao

Luana (TheWhiteDeer)

The reason the pace is slow and there isn't too much fighting is for a few reasons actually. Firstly, the scripts got forcibly cut from 10 to 8 episodes during production and not to mention the budget as well due to the Warner Bros CEO. He's notorious for this crap. So the showrunners only had a timeline of two month to adjust the scripts to this sudden change. The filming of this season also occurred during the writers strike so writers weren't able to do much during the filming either. You usually need writers on site to help with the dialogue. There was an actors strike as well ofc but HOTD wasn't affected by that part due to their agency not being involved with it or something to that effect. Overall, crew, production and the actors were dealt a bad hand this season so there are parts that are lackluster but let's hope that future seasons will not be as lacking. I still think it's a beautifully made season regardless. Hope this explains it well enough!

YUPPP!! been waiting for this omgg can’t wait for 4!! love how team black u are brad, expected nothing less of u diva 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

its real

Stefan

Harrenhal looks very derelict for a multitude of reasons mentioned in GOT: first, it was burned by Balerion the Black Dread during Aegon's Conquest of Westeros, so it's half melted. Second, it's the largest castle in the realm, so large that it's impossible for any one family to properly garrison. That's why there's no one around. Third, Harrenhal has a familial curse - any family that has taken up residence there has been met with line extinction; no members left. This bit about line extinction is mentioned in the histories and lore. So that's why Harrenhal looks like shite at the moment. As for wanting it, it's more of a matter of being rewarded with it by the king, since that's who it belongs to once the residing family dies out. The reason Daemon wants Harrenhal is because not only is it the biggest castle in Westeros, it's pretty strategically located right in the middle of the Riverlands, so he could theoretically control the entire region from that castle and rally allies to it. Hope this helps.

The two houses at the beginning are the Brackens and the Blackwoods. They are two houses in the Riverlands who are famous for their centuries long feud. You met members of those houses in Season One, when young Rhaenyra was meeting all those suitors for her hand in marriage. The young boy who came before her was a Blackwood. And the older guy who was bullying him, and was eventually killed by him, was a Bracken. One of the early battles during this period was called the Battle of the Burning Mill. And it was primarily between these two houses. The show did not want to go to the expense a full battle in this case. So this is the way that they represented this early battle in the Dance. One other interesting detail about these two houses is that the Blackwoods worship the Old Gods. And this is quite unusual for a house this far south. The Brackens follow the more common Faith of the Seven. A few Targaryen‘s into the future there will be a Targaryen king who has a bastard child from each of these houses. And those two bastards will be instrumental in the Blackfyre Rebellion, which is the other big Targaryen Civil War to come in the future.
