you thinking that the tea is poison rather than an abortive was killing me

Samantha Cerroni

Where is episode 9?

The Emerald Duchess

Also Rhaenys is bad ass. She is my spirit animal in the show like Lady Olenna was in Game of Thrones.

MamaKat114

Hi Brad darling, I don’t know if anyone else has told you, but Baela and Raena are Damon‘s daughters with laena Belarusian so they are stepdaughters of Rhaenyra

MamaKat114

Then why did the queen hug the servant who was asking about her?

lunasera

Brad: He just needs to die I'm sorry. Also Brad: Go on Viserys you hold on a bit longer 🤣🤣

Gam Mac

The performances in this show are wonderful. The relationships are also very interesting, especially Alicent’s and Rhaenyra’s when you peel back the layers, there is definitely still love there. Everything would be so different if Otto wasn’t such a twat. So much generational trauma. A family drama with dragons, lol. Also love the facial expressions you have when something crazy happens, haha.

Jonesy96

I LOVE Ewan Mitchell as Aemond!!! Fucking hell he looks soooo scary!!!

Isi

The reason the tea drinking is so dramatic is because the tea, if brewed wrong, can basically cause fertility issues and other problems. Plan Tea is not foolproof and there's risks to drinking it.

I lied, i’m back with one more comment! Since you really enjoyed Helaena, Alicent’s daughter, I have to say that when she was dancing with Rhaenyra’s son Jace, I felt like it was a glimpse of what could have been. There was that moment when Rhaenyra suggested that they marry Helaena to Jace. And that would have merged the two sides of the family. I think that would have been an excellent way to solve the situation. At least from the perspective of how they handle things at this time, in this world. And Helaena would definitely have been much happier with Jace as her husband than the awful Aegon IMO. They were very cute dancing together!

Blackeyedlily

I totally agree! The marriages between Rhaenyra’s sons and Laena’s daughters would accomplish what Rhaenys said she wanted in the previous episode, for Driftmark to pass to Laena’s children. And that would be Valeryon blood.

Blackeyedlily

Paddy Considine, who played Viserys talked about that scene in interviews. He did say that Viserys was visualizing Aemma in his final moments. That is why he was reaching out as if he was trying to touch someone or something. And his final words, My Love, were meant for her.

Blackeyedlily

Yes, Emmy, hahaha i am not so much into these things. Yes it is crazy!

Isi

Can anyone tell me was that his hand in the very last shot, or was that him imagining Aemma - or Aemma coming to collect him, I guess?

dpfw

So here's my take on Vaemond Valeryon. Yes, he's 100% correct that Jace, Luke, and Joff aren't Laenor's sons and therefore not Valeryons. BUT the king said they are, Laenor said they are, and to go against that is treason, pure and simple. He was stupid to push so hard. Second, he was a bit of a hypocrite. If all he REALLY cared about was keeping Driftmark in the Valeryon family, then Rhaenera and Rhaenys have accomplished that by marrying Rhaenera's sons to Laena's daughters. The girls bring the blood, the boys bring the name. Their children will have both. If the boys were biological Valeryons and married, say, Starks or Freys, the result would be the same: children with both the blood and name of Valeryon. Vaemond just wants it for himself. Sure there may be SOME family pride, but if that's all it was, he would be smart and shut his mouth and let the marriage happen. And he would've stayed alive.

MamaSeesa

It would be an Emmy not a Grammy, Grammys are for music! And yes he 100% deserved one but he didn't even get nominated which is ridiculous with how amazing he was

Luana (TheWhiteDeer)

these are everything to me rn lol

Jordan Dobbs

I mean she ain’t good but she’s not dead

Cassandra

This episode was very beautiful if you think about it because it shows the surface relationships everybody shares and then hints of what's really going on deep inside. (longer comment ahead) 1. I think Alicent resents Rhaenyra for having such an "easy" life (and how she could twist and turn things to kind of avoid her duty) but also carries a deep love for her still. You can see it in their shared moments throughout dinner and also on the two different occasions when Alicent said Rhaenyra would be a good Queen. 2. Vaemond Velaryon really messed up here. I can understand his frustration because the boys are simply not legitimate but to undermine your king in an open court, speak the words that are obviously treason and then insult the heir to the throne? What did he expect to happen? For Viserys to pat his cheek and change his mind? This is the Velaryon ambition and pride Rhaenys was talking about. It blinds people sometimes. 3. I think it's kinda sad how you can see the dfferent unrequited loves. Helaena feels neglected by Aegon. Alicents allows herself to be a puppet in fer father's plans for domination to get his validation. And she was too young when she had Aegon - she struggled raising him and her other children but she somehow still loves them, especially Helaena. And all Aegon wants is love and validation from his parents. Meanwhile, Viserys calls Rhaenyra his "only child" because she was Aemma's daughter. He held affection for Alicent and by extension their shared children but Aemma was the love of his life. Even when you look at Daemon and his daughters. You didn't see them together since Laena died. The twins are always reffered to as Laena's daughters or grandchildren of Rhaenys and Corlys. I sometimes forget they Daemon's daughters too. 4. Rhaenys is a boss. Really love her and could go on a rant but my comment is long enough haha 5. the misunderstanding at the end between Viserys and Alicent was really unfortunate because for a few moments the Greens and the Blacks got along but this is sure to change now with Alicent thinking Viserys wants Aegon to unite the Realm when he really meant that Rhaenyra was "the prince[ess] that was promised" 6. I do believe Caraxes and Syrax are a mated dragon pair now but don't quote me 7. also that tea the maid Dyana had to drink was moon tea. It's to prevent or abort pregnancies and the milk of the poppy most likely helped Viserys. We could see how he was groaning in pain in the second half of the episode when he refused it. BUT it also kept him a bit sedated and bed bound and even more unable to rule

lea

SO EXAITED, THIS THREE EPISODES ARE CRAZYYY

Brad, hun, the tea was just medieval Plan B, she's all good

Thomas McGowan

Thank you so much for this! Loved your reaction, as always. Just to clear some things up (that you probably already worked out because you binged these episodes): Once Daemon and Rhaenyra married, Rhaena remained on Dragonstone and Baela was sent to ward on Driftmark with Corlys and Rhaenys (well mostly Rhaenys). Alicent and Viserys actually have a fourth child, Daeron, who was also sent to ward in Oldtown (where the Hightowers are from). We haven’t met him yet. And yes, Aegon is married to his sister Helaena (unfortunately for her). They have two children together by this time. Helaena is the purest soul, so interesting and the only Green I want to protect at all costs. Last thing, Alicent didn’t kill Dyana. The tea she gave her was moon tea (the plan b tea). Rhaenys is one of my favorite characters (if not my absolute favorite) though it’s hard not to put her even with Rhaenyra. I’m excited for you to see more of her!

Amanda Hill

Its also very funny to see Alicent care so much about her “family” but its clear by her sons’ characters that she wasnt very good at raising them with love (which you can see in Jace and Luke). Im just sad for the Hightiwers’ childhoods, none of them deserve Heleana :(

Tam

It was sad to see how much Daemon was hurt seeing his brother suffering, but loved to see him stand up for his wife and stepchildren/grandnephews

Tam

This is my last comment about this episode! I’m glad you are enjoying Rhaenys’ character. After standing up to Rhaenyra by the Heart Tree, I felt that her turning point in deciding to support Rhaenyra was seeing Viserys enter the Throne Room. She could read the situation. And it allowed her to both support her husband Corlys’ wishes, and it got her the result of her daughter Laena’s daughters in position for one to become the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, and the other to marry the heir of Driftmark. That would basically get her what she wanted in the previous episode. BTW, the Throne at Driftmark is made out of Driftwood. You might not like the style, but it is rather appropriate.

Blackeyedlily

The actor who plays Viserys, Paddy Considine, killed it this episode, literally! It was such a shame that he did not win an Emmy award. To share a couple of tidbits that Paddy said in interviews about this episode: he said that in the scene where he is walking to the Iron Throne, he was just focused on reaching Rhaenyra. I don’t know if you noticed that when she came to him the night before he called her his only child, because Rhaenyra was his only child with his true love. At the very end with that death scene, Paddy said that Viserys was seeing his dead wife Aemma in that moment. That is why he was reaching his hand up as if he was trying to touch something. And his final words were My Love. Paddy said that Viserys never got over the death of Aemma. He continued to wear her ring. And there are several moments in this season where you see him focus on the ring. His disease was supposed to be some form of leprosy, which he didn’t actively fight because he thought it was a punishment for what happened with Aemma. I don’t honestly think that the Hightowers were overmedicating him. He would have been in immense pain. But I think they were taking advantage of the situation.

Blackeyedlily

I still CANNOT believe that Paddy Considine didnt win a Grammy for his performance as King Viserys!! His acting was soooooo good in this!! And yeah, Viserys called Alicent "Aemma" in Episode 7 "I'm going to bed, Aemma!" and now right before he died looking up to heaven knowing it is time and his last words were "my love". This broke me, i cried hard on this!

Isi

All of these episodes are fire! BTW, it was protocol that the King’s Hand sits on the Iron Throne if they are holding court, and the king is absent. So as annoying as it is to see Otto sitting there, he wasn’t actually doing anything inappropriate. However, the tenderness between Viserys and Daemon this episode makes me think about how different things would have been if Daemon was the Hand. It’s really all he ever wanted. He said it in episode one. They began the series in a way that had people thinking that Daemon was after the throne. And while he probably wouldn’t have turned it down, I always remember something that the Viserys said in the first or second episode. Without looking up the exact quote, it was something about how Daemon would get bored if he had to sit the Throne. Daemon was listening in on that conversation and he smirked when Viserys said it. Which I took as his recognition that Viserys was right about that. What he really wanted was Viserys recognition and use of him as his right hand man. I know that Daemon has plenty of faults. I don’t glorify the character. But I do recognize that he is my favorite in the series. George Martin said he was his favorite Targaryen. And this episode is a really good one for Daemon’s character.

Blackeyedlily

Things are getting so messy! I think you missed Helena saying "beast beneath the boards" at the beginning of dinner. ;-)

Rebecca Gustaitis

he said “my love” at the end, he saw rhaenyra’s mother, aemma

Kiara Wynter

Hey Brad!! King Viserys said “My Love” right before he died meaning his first wife Aemma, excellent reaction as always dawlin! 🫶🏼

Jackie Oh

Thanks Tanny. I appreciate it

Jess M.C

that tea wasn't poisoned. it's the same "plan b" tea that rhaenyra got when they feared she might have been pregnant

june

Daemon walking Viserys up to the throne will never not give me goosebumps. He always loved his brother.

DanInMuc

Agreed, I'm pretty sure it's the same one!

Tanny H

Yeah the son with the eye patch is the character from Saltburn who was yelling about maths and asking him a sum lol

Jess M.C

So I think the tea she gave the serving girl the same tea that Rhaenyra drank after she was with Ser Criston Cole in an earlier episode… it’s the Plan B tea I believe. Unless I understood the situation wrong

Jess M.C

Woot! Excited for this!

Jess M.C

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
