2024-12-10 17:46:00 +0000 UTCi’m not a criston fan (ew) but i will say that in the first few episodes (which span over multiple years) we see rhaenyra basically begging to be let go of her duties. she told alicent in ep 1 that she wanted to travel the world with alicent on her dragon, who’s to say she didn’t say that to see criston? he didn’t know that she had just gotten served a huge prophecy that changed her view on ruling, to his knowledge she hated the idea of duties and such. also sleeping with the princess would get him killed, no one cares if she led him to do that, he sullied her and that’s important in this time. he would not be let go

2024-12-10 00:11:44 +0000 UTCCriston unfortunately didn't react well to Rhaenyra's rejection and her "indecent proposal" -- I get it that he was risking everything when he slept with her and that he was in a really bad position because technically she was his boss, so there was a huge power imbalance. But did he honestly expect her to run away to Essos with him? What did he realistically think the outcome would be? It sucks but if he couldn't take it he should have requested a change in position or asked to leave the Kingsguard entirely. I get that it's a lifetime oath but I'm sure exceptions have been and can be made if someone isn't up for the job anymore. Instead he chose to stick around and stew in his anger and we get Criston Cole 2.0: homicidal maniac 😬

He was very hurt about Rhaenyra rejecting him, asking him to be her whore, breaking his oath etc and i think Ser Joffrey telling him "Hey i know about you and Rhaenyra" and stuff (which sounded to me a little bit like a threat tbh) was too much in that moment. After that he thought he first broke his oath and now killing a guy at a royal wedding would be his death anyway and so he decided to do it by himself.

If he’s not a kingsguard he’s nothing, so when he broke his oath by sleeping with Rhaenyra, he put EVERYTHING on the line, including his life, and was ridden with guilt afterwards. That’s why he was so desperate to tell someone that he just blurted it out to Alicent, why he killed Joffrey (Laenor’s bf) when he essentially threatened to spill his secret, and why he tries to off himself afterwards. Truly in his deranged fuckboy era 💕
