The main character is also played by Jonathan Groff. I highly recommend it, Brad (*and anyone else looking for representation in media).

It was impossible to tell a story like this in the game because we're stuck viewing things from Joel's perspective, and a slow and calm story like this one wouldn't give the player enough to do. So I don't blame the game for being how it is, but the show did it so much better. If they'd gone with the original story it would have just been bitter misery porn every episode so it's great they broke it up and added in some levity and sweetness, and they picked the perfect place to put it. It was done so well in the show that I think I don't even like Bill's original story in the game anymore.

2023-02-01 03:23:55 +0000 UTCThe homophobes are incredibly funny on this one because Bill being gay in the game was NOT subtle at all and there's literally an un-missable cutscene where Ellie finds his gay porn magazines and makes jokes about them being sticky. But because Bill doesn't turn to face the camera and say "I, Bill, am gay," they've spent the last 10 years just lying to themselves that him being gay was just a fan theory and it wasn't clear. Even if they showed all the hoopla that goes on in that town in the game, they would still have been mad because Bill being gay was never subtle and it was only going to be less subtle in the show no matter what. The interesting part is that I remember when the game came out and Bill being gay was actually pretty universally praised, even on places like Reddit. In some ways we've gone backwards in public acceptance.

I think that one in the woods would be considered a stalker, because the fungus has come out through the skin, but based on episode 2 I think the show has combined runners and stalkers into one stage (which is fine with me, I always have trouble telling them apart).

2023-02-01 03:05:11 +0000 UTCI *think* the "clickers" are specifically the ones whose faces have been completely covered by the fungus and can't see anymore, so they use echolocation / clicks to navigate, if I recall correctly. Also... this episode was everything. One of the best episodes of anything I've ever watched. So delicately handled, and just beautiful. <3

2023-02-01 00:37:30 +0000 UTCFrank did give of bigg daddy vibs. Murray Bartlett is also in Tales of the City it's a gay tv series on Netflix revolving around an appartment complex owned by a trans woman it's a safe haven for a group on LGBTQ+ people. It's got a great cast. Well worth a watch.

I’ve watched far too many reactions to this episode, and cried during each one, but the ones that stuck with me the most were the ones where the reactors also cried. It was like I felt a kinship with them. That we were all in this journey together. I don’t know, my two cents.
