Also, the last act of the movie had different people trying to capture Jean Jacket's picture/video in different ways - the paparazzi guy with his handycam, the cinematographer with his handheld film camera, Em with the CCTV camera. However, none of them were able to capture the image (the cinematographer did, but he got greedy and wanted to get "authentic" footage, to shoot the "impossible" by sacrificing himself and attempting to get filmed in the process; since he knows the camera would be spat out by Jean Jacket because it can't digest it). The only authentic image that was captured was by Em using the polaroid camera in the well. Polaroid images are notoriously hard to doctor, so it happens to be the most authentic image whose authenticity is hard to scrutinize. Finally, it is not confirmed if OJ actually survived in the end. This is widely debated upon - some have speculated that Emerald is having a vision or hallucination of her brother and he really did get eaten by Jean Jacket. I personally would like to believe that OJ survived. I'm glad you did Nope. I love the movie so much, I actually watched it twice in theatres (once by myself and once with a friend). I love watching your reactions, so it was great that you reacted to this movie :D

Secondly, the reason why Jean Jacket opened up from its saucer form into something resembling a jellyfish is that it tried to eat Angel, but since Angel was wrapped in the tarp and the barbed wire, JeanJacket's insides got hurt and so it opened up (Angel getting caught in the tarp and wire is another example of the miracle that the standing shoe represented). The reason why Jupe's kids let Clover out and tried to spook OJ by wearing those alien costumes was because Jupe realized that Em had stolen their horse decoy (which is why he comes over to the ranch under the pretext of inviting them to the show in which he later dies). He also knew that Jean Jacket had made Haywood Ranch as its territory, so he knew that Em stole the decoy as a bait for Jean Jacket. As a revenge/prank, he sends his kids over to bait OJ into thinking they are aliens and making fun of him. Now, what Jupe was doing is to make money off of Jean Jacket by feeding it horses that he bought from OJ (OJ had to sell the horses because the ranch was struggling financially, and the reason why Jupe wanted to buy the ranch from OJ is because he knew that Jean Jacket had made the ranch its territory). Jupe went through a similar "bad miracle" with the Gordy's Home incident as OJ and Em with Jean Jacket, but his outlook from that experience was different from that of OJ's. Jupe believed that Gordy didn't hurt him because he was the only true friend of Gordy's (as it is shown while they were shooting the show and everyone gave Gordy useless presents while only Jupe tried to give him a thoughtful present). Using that line of thinking, he was confident that Jean Jacket wouldn't harm him because he believes that he is able to "tame" predatory/wild animals. Jean Jacket's attack on the Jupiter's Claim park was unexpected by Jupe because he was sure that he had tamed Jean Jacket by feeding it horses regularly. So, when it showed up early and Lucky didn't budge, he started feeling frightened that maybe he was wrong and that Jean Jacket would attack them. Also, Lucky survived because he did not look at Jean Jacket at all. Since he was in the box, his vision was limited and so he didn't look at it (and Jean Jacket spared him). Similarly, because Lucky had blinders on when OJ decided to lure Jean Jacket away from Em to let her escape, Lucky did not see Jean Jacket even then, which is probably why he was calm. And the reason why OJ was much less freaked out than Em and Angel is probably because OJ has a lot of experience taming horses, and so he understands the psyche of wild animals. OJ also hypothesised quite early on in the movie that Jean Jacket wasn't a spaceship, but an actual animal (especially when he says "it moves very fast, much faster than a plane", specially because OJ's dad's death was explained off as a freak accident where a coin was dropped from an airplane and it hit him). Also, the Gordy's Home incident happened because the chimp was provoked by the sound of the balloon popping (loud sounds can be disturbing for animals), and not because he was in a trance. He stopped attacking people and started behaving normal and friendly and worried only after all the balloons popped and his anxiety was calmed down.

Okay, so few things: First, the Gordy's Home plotline (chimpanzee) is sort of key to understanding Jean Jacket (the formal name is Occulonimbus edoequus, as stated by the Science Consultant of the movie). The main reason for the chimpanzee story is to establish the theme that wild animals can be provoked very easily by looking directly into their eyes. The reason why Jupe (the kid) survived the attack was because he was so fixated on staring at the shoe that was standing up, that he did not stare into the eyes of the chimp when it was attacking, while the rest of the crew looked at it. Why the shoe was standing up is not so much important. Its ultimate purpose, I think, is to represent what OJ was describing in his speech about bad miracles. The shoe standing on its head is one such example; something that is impossible and beyond comprehension, but not in the positive or uplifting way the way a miracle would be. As OJ explains, Jean Jacket is a predatory animal - territorial, provoked by eyes staring at it.

I think it goes after the horses as they arer out in the open, so easy to suck up. When it tried to eat him he got pulled up but because he was in the tunnel it couldn't get him. However it was able to eat all the people. Then when the keys and coins fell out the sky that was the stuff it couldn't eat hence it pooping them out.

Yasssss!!! Thank you for this. This movie left me shook asf. Apparently, the ending creature looks like a depiction of what an Angel should look like based on how they describe them in the Bible 🫢
