2022-05-11 20:14:52 +0000 UTCI believe in the books Tao grew his hair longer to support Elle when she was at Truham and curled the ends up as a statement since that made it technically above his shoulders. Also have you seen Will Gao in reality? With his regular hair he’s way too good looking to play an outcast. I think with Tao if you keep in mind that all of his annoyances come from deep insecurity and fear of losing his friends it’s easier to be forgiving. And imogen saying her and nick were together was the wrong thing but at the same time she’s a teenage girl and at this point she actually believes there is something happening between her and nick. She’s completely dillusional but it’s not coming from a bad place. I don’t think at this point that Nick knows how to not be friends with that group. He’s not friends with Harry & Ben anymore but they’re still in the same group and what are his options really. He’s not ready to come out and if he suddenly ditched his entire friend group and started hanging out with Charlie that would be making a bit of a statement in itself and would invite questions that he doesn’t even have the answers for himself yet. But you can see the change in him from the beginning when he was generally shown at the centre of that group and now he exists on the peripherals, he’s always walking at the back, sitting off to the side.

2022-05-07 03:22:46 +0000 UTCyou kind of see hints of how the bullying affected charlie dotted throughout the show, it's just not the main focus so it's kinda in the background and you only notice if you're paying attention or have rewatched the show . but i'm aware the later volumes season 2 will be based off do delve into a lot of charlie's issues a bit more.

2022-05-06 21:49:19 +0000 UTCThe whole thing with Tao, you’ll understand him a little more If you’ve read the novel (Im trying to explain without spoilers lol) Tao was the one who accidentally outed Charlie because someone overheard him. So I might be wrong but Charlie has some reservations about telling Tao partly because of this and doesn’t want nick to go through the same thing, but also he cares so much about what Tao thinks so a mix of both Also Charlie being bullied really affected him (a lot more than I think is shown on the Netflix show) which they’ll go into more in season 2 if they renew the show (You find out in the books early on but there are hints all through this first season but very subtle) Tao was there and saw all of the bullying. And from Tao’s perspective, He doesn’t know that nick really likes Charlie or even know nick like Charlie does. Just the friends he hangs around with who reminds him of the bullies and I think tao is just trying to keep Charlie from going back to that really dark place (I might be wrong 😂 but from reading the novels this is what i got from it)

2022-05-06 20:41:13 +0000 UTCimogen and tao defender right here - they both mean well with the things they say and do, but they're teenagers at the end of the day. they're gonna say and do stupid things that ppl don't agree with bc their main purpose is to be vaguely "antagonistic" as obstacles in the way of nick and charlie officially becoming an item. tao doesn't like nick and his rugby friends because he's lumped all of them into the annoying straight bully box, so charlie is gonna put off telling him because he's afraid of the fallout that might occur bc tao's so blinded by his protectiveness and is scared of being left alone. imogen is just a mildly annoying teenage girl with a crush on a boy, and she's clearly just uneducated abt how to interact w lgbt+ ppl bc she's not been around any prominently in her life. you can tell she means well by the things she says and does. same with tao. imogen 100% gets better, though. don't worry.

2022-05-06 15:52:48 +0000 UTCI think it’s hard to understand Tao when we don’t see what happened to Charlie the previous year with the intense bullying at the hands of the rugby lads. Admittedly Tao is wrongly lumping all the rugby players together as one giant bully, but I’m sure in his mind no one on the team stopped the bullying so they’re all guilty. He’s just hyper protective of his friend. Many ups and downs to go in the next four episodes but it’s so worth it. I wish I could have had this friend group at that age 💜

And also hilarious, like, the "I'm not like homophobic, I'm an ally" line has me laughing hysterically every time, it's the campest thing I've ever heard, literally iconic.
