Look who it is! ;)

Your eyes do not lie, no matter how hard you fight to hide them.

Fun facts:

In Buddhism, they believe that you can even step over the idol before the Anekajati is performed by the monks because it is only a statue.

It is only a belief, yet most Buddhists practice it in the traditional manner nowadays. But what about those of you who live in the west? Are they worshiping although they don't go through that? What are your thoughts about worship? As far as I know, the statue has no deep purpose. It's all about getting one's mind in shape. You should not read Pali until you comprehend its true meaning and purpose.

Interesting questions. Of course, western society is far too diverse to speak in general terms, but most central European countries are going through a process of secularisation. Traditional religion is losing its influence on society, but at the same time alternative concepts have been on the rise for decades and you can find many people believing in all kinds of stuff. At the same time there is a growing number of people who do not believe anything at all, like myself. I'm a naturalist, meaning that I reject any kind of super-natural explanations on the basis of a complete lack of verifiable evidence pointing towards existence of the super-natural. We live in a universe defined by natural laws and the only way to understand this universe and our place in it is through science and logic. And even if science should one day find evidence pointing towards the existence of powerful beings beyond our current understanding, there would be no more reason to worship them than there would be for, let's say, an ant to worship humans. As for rituals: We know from scientific studies that rituals can have positive effects on the human mind and it doesn't really matter if those are religious or completely secular rituals. So, yes, I do have a few rituals that help me enjoy good moments. Even without any religion involved.
