Melvin: "Don't fight it, just learn to enjoy it. Tony and Chip got the right idea"
Apart from including fattening cereal mascots, guess this image requires a bit of context. As mentioned on the Melvin sketches post, there has been recent legislation here in Mexico, that made several changes to packaging of what's considered junk food and other items (Snacks, high sugar beverages, breakfast cereals, etc). Part 1 of this change includes the display of the corresponding of 5 tags that indicate the contents of the food product (High calorie count, High in sugar, high in sodium, excess of saturated fat, excess of trans fat) and in the case of breakfast cereals aimed at children, if it has at least 1 tag, the mascot must be removed from the packaging. So no more Tony the Tiger, Trix rabbit and Chip on cereal boxes.
In the subject of the drawing, I like to imagine that when the law went into effect it rendered the mascots irrelevant so they became unemployed. And since part 2 of the law requires the change in ingredients and recipies of the cereals, the companies now have lots of stock that requires disposing of. And what better way to dispose it than by using our recently unemployed mascots. Because, you know, the need an escape goat for all the advertising to children and promoting in them an unhealthy lifestyle.
Melvin here is the largest because he had been replaced a couple years back, so he had an early lead on the expanding and eating.
Thanks for your continued support!
P.S. Before anyone comments, that's how 'Krispis' is spelled on the Mexican cereal boxes
