Computer Situation Update

tldr; after some fiddling the new machine seems to be up and running, so I can resume art!
So a few weeks ago my trusty laptop broke down after 5 years of loyal service. GPU gave out and the CPU couldn't even handle multiple applications at once. I'll be honest, I did push the hardware from time to time. Especially since the original vendor decided to stop support way back in 2013. So I've been running custom drivers ever since.
Cue panic mode, as I would need to get my hands on new stuff very fast before it would totally give out. A few kindred spirits helped me in getting the parts I needed, even got a few parts donated, which was awesome!
So last Thursday and Saturday everything trickled in. Even had to go to a postal collection point to get a package from the USA. (my government sure loves double taxing items), and I've been putting it together ever since. Quite fun, putting a computer together. Especially since the only real error I got was my silly butt putting the CPU fan on the wrong header. Fortunately the cooling unit has a thing for passive cooling, basically meaning it does not need a fan on simple tasks.
Yesterday was the first test with a game, turns out the poor GPU pulled its maximum fan speed and still could barely keep below 88 degrees Celsius. The max is 95 degrees, so reason for concern. XD So I did something new to me: pulled a GPU apart to apply new thermal paste. Good thing two, the old compound had transformed itself into a solid crumbly mess, and was all over the place. Though a natural process for thermal compounds, this was surely needed from the looks of it. Which quickly proved itself: 65 degrees Celsius with only half fan speed.
Now I'm setting up the final files and will then enjoy this new beasty.
