Mosco you're British (note I mean in the island not England) and funny.

Brett

In the Darkwing Duck series, Launchpad was not only DW's sidekick, but he had actually built the Thunderquack (and was a very good pilot) and caused DW to create his catchphrase (from the pilot episode: "Gee, DW, that seems awfully dangerous!" "Then let's get dangerous!"). Drake Mallard was DW's secret identity (and a double pun: a male duck is called a drake, and mallards are a type of duck). Negaduck was his main arch-nemesis, an evil doppelgänger of DW from a parallel universe called the Negaverse, and despite having no powers of his own was the leader of the Fearsome Five, consisting of himself, Megavolt, Bushroot, Liquidator, and Quackerjack. I actually rewatched Darkwing Duck a couple years ago, and I personally think the show still holds up pretty well today. Also, many people mistake Darkwing Duck for a Batman reference, but he's actually based on the Green Hornet.

This episode is PACKED with references to the actual Darkwing Duck cartoon from 1991. Launchpad being his sidekick, the artstyle of the comic sequence, him HATING Gizmoduck, and of course, the reveal of Negaduck at the end! The fandom went fucking nuts at that scene, and so did I.

I love how this episode is essentially veteran VA Jim Cummings (the voice of Darkwing in the real world show, and Jim Starling) passing down the role of Darkwing to Chris Diamantopoulos (the voice of Drake Mallard AND current voice of Mickey Mouse.) Talk about range!

Dan_Gaming_Fan

The security guard who blasts Jim Starling with the fire extinguisher was voiced by Tad Stones, creator and showrunner for Darkwing Duck. The comic book sequence was done in an art style reminiscent of the old show and actual comics that take place after the series. The posters for the safety films that Scrooge's studio primarily makes mostly feature Donald, implying he was an actor in them.

"Launchpad would be an excellent sidekick to Darkwing Duck." Funny you should say that, because in the actual Darkwing Duck show, he was! And they made a fantastic team. You've got to watch the original sometime, unless of course we finally get that reboot they announced!

One hundred percent 😭

I believe it... He's the himbo who you make a nice dinner for, watch DW and cuddle with and you don't have to worry about being roofied by him.

Oh yeah absolutely... The OG Ducktales was okay, but Darkwing Duck was always my favorite.... Ducktales is what you had on while waiting for Darkwing. The new series has been actually, really good. The triplets have very different personalities. Webbie isn't a caricature of a little girl. Glomgold is a fucking delight, and the writing is generally way better than it used to be. They've been keeping remarkably close to original canon, that I didn't know about until seeing other videos. Glomgold really was Duke Baloney, and really was South African. But this episode in particular is just the absolute best. That laugh where Jim Starling lets on that he's lost it... a casual watcher under stands he's going evil... but OG Darkwing fans, they know that laugh. That laugh means one thing, and one thing only... NEGADUCK. The showrunners are like feast on your fandom and be merry! And damn I gained a lot of weight.

Launchpad was also a significantly better Pilot in DWD

For future reference, the og Darkwing Duck HATED Gizmoduck. Also, Launchpad was Darkwing's original sidekick. Really would recommend the original show or at least the pilot. I loved it growing up.

so disappointing - this episode proved how well a reboot of the series could work! And the original was already very smartly written for what it was, so it would have been great to see a full series with the quality of the Ducktales reboot.

cosmotron

A friend of mine is a voice actor. Convention appearances are definitely part of the revenue stream, providing some income in between voice gigs.

JHB

more importantly...aren't the crystal gems aliens?

potato potato also another potato

As someone who loved the og Darkwing Duck series more than the original Ducktales (I have the series on DVD) this episode is a particular delight, and *really* smartly written if you're familiar with the original.

cosmotron

It got a backdoor pilot then got passed on before getting picked up cancelled, restarted, cancelled, and restarted again. Last update was last year where it's supposedly still being made, but the writers room has been entirely disbanded so......

Rotom

I recall hearing something similar but don't recall the source

So the Drake Mallard name reveal is two things. a) a Drake is what you call a male duck, while a Mallard is a type of duck, and b) in the original Darkwing Duck cartoon Drake Mallard was DW's secret identity. This entire episode was a teaser for a Darkwing reboot.

Ferret

Pretty sure Launchpad is ace panromantic. But if anyone has interviews on the subject I will differ to those.

Tyrant-Den

FINALLY!!

Kevin A Ortega

"To be fair, Launchpad could be an excellent sidekick to Darkwing Duck..." Funny you should say that... because in the original Darkwing cartoon, he is.

David Johnson

I loved DW back when I was a kiddo! I was wondering if they were going toward the Negaduck story when they had him holding the chainsaw lol In the original, Negaduck comes from the Negaverse, an alternate dimension, but eeeevil lol

Stellar Kruize

It makes me so happy that you said Launchpad would be a great sidekick to Darkwing. In the original show, Launchpad IS Darkwing’s sidekick, so they clearly wrote that interaction well in this show!

SadinaSaphrite

i dd hear years ago that they were going to do a Darkwing Duck reboot, i dont know if its still happening or not

John Bossert

Absolutely dying at Mosco saying aliens make everything worse. She's gonna flip when they reveal that Webby is actually an alien invader.

Rachel Espiritu

Drake Mallard is the secret identity of Darkwing in the original Darkwing Duck show. In that show, we follow Drake as both Darkwing and in everyday situations.

Vintersaga

The beauty of the voice casting and naming of the characters is top notch: Jim Cummings is the VA of the original Darkwing, who was named Drake Mallard, and he plays him again, but his character is named Jim Starling now. Instead the NEW guy is named Drake Mallard, but played by Chris Diamantopoulos. Its beautiful how both have a piece of the original Darkwing. And the way they tied it into Ducktales as a TV show? *chefskiss*

Markus Erdt

This is one of my favorite episodes. I love the fact that they brought back Jim Cummings (the original voice of Darkwing Duck/Nega Duck) and Tad stones (the creator of Darkwing Duck) to interact as Jim Starling/Nega Duck and the security officer. So funny to hear tad stones act like he’s never heard of Darkwing Duck. I love the slow decent of Jim Starling into Darkwing ducks alter ego Nega Duck.

Maggie Ray

What I want more than Anything is for them to continue dark wing duck this would been a great story line

Sirghostfreak

My favorite interaction with a Actor. Well there were 2. The 1st being the voice of Perfect Cell FROM DBZ. Though I was there because he voiced Younger Toguro in yu yu Hakusho. 2nd being the actor who played vandal savage in Legends of Tomorrow.

Let's get Dangerous

Any else notice that Mosco flips everyone off when she does her countdown? Totally her vibe.
