I'd never even heard of it until you posted this. So I decided to watch a couple episodes before starting your reaction. Binged the entire season in 1 night. 😅
I think you're really gonna appreciate Gugu 🤣

For the most part. Others who have watched the show can confirm this, but the last few episodes feel a ,,rushed" not like in a way where you did not understand what is going on, but it would have needed just an episode or two space thr stuff out better. (Or a better solution give us Season 2)

Ok, I wasn't sure about these reactions (Jentry) but I'm convinced. I'll be on board for the ride :) I particularly liked you calling out the tropes and whatnot :) It's almost like you've reacted to a few shows...

I thought it was information overload as well. I wonder if the pacing is ramped up to try to fit everything into a single season or something as such.

Understandable, the show throws so much at you at once.

I had a bit of a problem with how much info the show throws at you in the first episodes. She is Chinese(?), but lived in the US, moved to Korea and now comes back, a mostly unknown mythology/underworld, backstory, characters ... oof.

As someone from Texas, we have a huge Asian population. And the creator of the show Echo Wu is from Texas.

I like the "Guis and Gugus" opening. There are some LGBT characters, but I won't say who. The show is really good and so excited to get more into it.

while it is hard to bring weapons through airports on short notice, it is possible to do it if certain paperwork is file and your average person isn't going to be able to do it. Tracking weapons down and shipping them to your home, however, is quite easy to do, though can be expensive.
I was also curious about the various terms used and in case you don't have a chance to look them up
Jiangshi: a type of undead, sometimes called a "Hopping Vampire" because they drain the life force of the living and are sometimes depicted as only being able to hop to move
Gui: in this case it most likely means ghost or devil/demon

It also took me a while to realize Gugu was Jentry's great aunt rather than her grandma. She is to Jentry what Stan and Ford were to Dipper and Mabel.

I believe in this case Gugu means "aunt" (Chinese translation). So, it's basically a pet name, like Jentry and her friends calling her "auntie".
I forgot you don't do well with horror. That... could make this an interesting reaction series for you.
In the diner, when Jentry shuts off her phone, you can see Mr. Cheng in the reflection.
I know we mentioned it in the server already, but yeah, this show pushes the rating limit. I think they "kept it PG" to keep it open to a wider audience. But hooboy does it push the limit in a variety of ways.

The compulsion to count grains of rice or seeds is present in European vampire folklore as well, but doesn't tend to make it into Dracula movies and whatnot. XD

The funny thing about a school shooting joke in the US is that it's always topical and too soon!

Jiangshi always struck me as the most comically silly 'scary monster.' Hopping vampires?? OCD about counting rice? The hell?
Although having said that, there was a jiangshi in the HK horror movie 'Rigor Mortis' that managed to be absolutely terrifying, so...

what I find funny is that Ed is a Jiangshi, and one element of teh myth they didn't keep is that they're supposed to be super stiff ('cause dead) and move around by jumping. But they elected to forgo that because they wanted to flex the animation and I'm glad they did
