I wouldn't say Scrooge is "afraid" of Djinn at all. He feels guilty and doesn't want to fight him because Djinn's not evil, but thinks he may have to if he confesses he lost the lamp. Djinn is intense, and he's already on thin ice for stealing it from Arabia. Knowing Scrooge, he probably wouldn't want to admit he messed up regardless.

Oh come on, Aladdin can't THAT racist, right? At least not from what I've seen. At least not to the point that it's all people talk about when you bring up the movie. Certainly a step up from the Siamese cats in Lady and the Tramp, or the natives in Peter Pan.

"The Lucky Gander" was the title of the episode, his actual name is Gladstone Gander, you can just call him Gladstone 👍

Genetically, they could attempt to clone scrooge but end up with two pairs of his X chromosome. It wouldn't be a true clone but she could have the same chromosomes as Scrooge. Of course I'm not sure if anthropomorphic ducks have human style X/Y Chromosomes that determine the contents of their cloaca

I think scrooge is not "scared" of the guy, it's just scrooge does not fight/destroy people unless he thinks they're evil, bad, or in his way of profit... I think fighting this guy is too much trouble... OR he is a business partner he doesn't want to offends but that's just MY take...

Just have to say, the opening banter of this episode was pure gold. I feel like Elijah got you back hard for that...

I agree! Djinn is justified and Scrooge is all about not wronging anybody unless they wronged him first. He took a familial heirloom that he wasn't aware of, and wants to make amends rather than battle Djinn.

It may be due to the break from Season 2 you had from having to pause it due to Vox Machina, but the season actually has three main through line plotlines, just like Season 1 had ^-^!
While Season 1 had: Magica, Dewey's quest to find out what happened to Della, and Gizmoduck, Season 2 has Louie's arc with Louie, Inc., The Bet with Glomgold, and Della.

remember that djinn is an ally and scrooge did promise to protect the lamp so it's not that he can't fight but he's feeling guilty and it'd be a bit of a dick move on his part

sorry writings a bit hard as English isn't a first language what i meant was if the original creator of the original ducktales didn't intend for it then why implement it in a reboot but its a nice head canon though. but please do try to be civil this is too much of unneeded hostility ^.^

I don't think scrooge was really afraid, maybe he just felt a bit guilty. It's not like he couldn't fight him he didn't WANT to fight him you know? Maybe?

You'd think Selene, goddess of the moon, would know Della's on: The Moon. I'd be suspended, but it's not as if Selene has some history of keeping her favorite mortals trapped and at her mercy.

That said, I am hoping for a big reveal on Webby's parents after the Della Duck plotline is resolved. My money's on "deep cover SHUSH agents".

Your knowledge of real-world cloning is impressive, and this Webby-as-clone theory intrigues me. However, given that would mean A). most likely dealing with the sorts of scientists that Scrooge regularly runs into (e.g., mad as a bag of squirrels on a sugar high), and B). a world where, narratively, even the sane scientists can not only break the laws of physics but turn them into balloon animals, I believe any potential limits on cloning would have gone out the window (possibly because the clone spontaneously grew functional wings). As such, while the trans-nature of Scrooge and/or Webby is an interesting head-canon, I'd say it would make just as much sense for the two of them to be just as they appear.

I was cracking up before the reaction even began! Mouthing "That's mine!" before pantomiming slapping Elijah's butt! You two are ridiculous! 🤣😂
I'm a little behind on my rewatch, but I think you hit the nail on the head. This felt like a refresher episode without dedicating a full 22 minutes to each of these characters. Not the strongest season 2 episode but there's more plot inbound.

That's definitely a notable difference between season 1 and 2. Season 1 has an overarching plot that's always big and in your face so there's very obvious episodes about the main focus and episodes not about it. Season 2 takes a different approach of having pretty much every single episode be important for the big plot, but it's very subtle about it until late season where it starts to get bombastic about it and everything clicks together. No spoilers about any of it, but can't wait for you to get there!

I don't think Scrooge is terrified of Djinn, he just doesn't want to admit he screwed up in not treating the lamp with respect, and doesn't want to fight Djinn because he isn't a bad guy anyway.

Webby's excitement is always so adorable. This show really goes above and beyond with how expressive the character animation is.
Otherwise this is one of the more forgettable episodes this season tbh; not bad, just doesn't stack up to the very good episode before it (Friendship Hates Magic) and the utterly brilliant two episodes before that (the Christmas ep and the Della ep).

Idk this is Disney sure, but If the the creator of ducktales didn’t really intend for Scrooge to be trans as they’ve shown they aren’t afraid of lgbt characters such as with violets dads and also the original creator of scrooge and his design for sure never had that idea so why would it be implemented in the reboot?

Scrooge and Ma Beagle climbing that tower of trash for the lamp is a direct copy of a shot in the opening titles of the original DuckTales series.

Interestingly, rather than the XX = female, XY = male system of humans, ducks have a ZW = female, ZZ = male system (essentially the reverse). And if the single ovary in a female dies for some reason (that doesn't include killing the rest of the duck), the loss of estrogen can cause the duck to turn make...in one rare case, up to and including fathering some eggs.
Mind you, these are *cartoon* ducks, so biology is what you want it to be, but I thought it was interesting.

Keep in mind that Disney is *still* cutting trans storylines from their shows in 2024, take that as you will for whether this show would be likely to have canon trans characters in 2017 - 2020.

There were a few references to the original Ducktales show (like that big ass medallion thing which is part of the seven part pilot) along with the title being a reference to the movie "Ducktales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp."

also, I really liked the character 'djinn' as the representation for him was truly better than most cartoon shows and movies especially Aladdin, a movie supposedly centred in the middle east yet couldn't see the difference between south Asians and middle Easterns, as this is coming from a middle eastern who has lived the first half of my life in the middle east. actually, the word genie was derived from the word djinn or Jinnie which means demon in the Arabic language. I also felt that djinns accent is also accurate on how especially my relatives sounded while trying to speak English to me despite the VA actually being Persian instead of middle eastern. I just love this episode and the character as a whole despite it being filler, it just brought to me some much-needed representation!

while on the topic of scrooge being trans based on you twos theory id render that unlikely as we have seen scrooge as a young boy i think he was even younger than webby then it was during the episode where we know his dad gave him his first coin or smth but im trying my hardest not to elaborate on spoilers currently.
