I can't believe she let that one go without a reaction.

I like that it was a Wendigo that the spirit of Christmas past turned int as if you seperate it, it looks/sound like 'when did he go' and he's trying to find out when scrooge is

If Scrooge weren't an infinitely forgiving person he and Goldie would've been through literally centuries ago, most of his enemies would be dead, and like half his friends would be his enemies for screwing him over at one point or another.

The credits and the Ghosts are indeed an homage to Mickey's Christmas Carol, where Scrooge played his namesake. Jiminy Cricket was Past, the Giant from Mickey And The Beanstalk was Present (pigs have probably the closest anatomy to humans outside of primates), and Pete was Future.

I think that the person you were thinking about when you heard young Della's voice was Ashley Johnson, it reminded me of Tulip from Infinity Train so I heard It too

the old christmas special you're thinking of is Mickey's Christmas Carol, where uncle Scrooge is well Scrooge

I legit think this is the best Christmas special of any show. The Christmas-ified intro song with actual effort put into it, a unique subversion of Christmas episode tropes, and still managing to advance the ongoing plot and lore.
Sooooo hyped for the next episode.

No one ever expects plot in the Christmas special!
When Scrooge McDuck was originally created, he was a lot more like the original Ebenezer Scrooge. Carl Barks didn't originally intend him to be a recurring character. He just needed a grouchy rich old guy related to Donald to set up an idea he had for a comic about Donald and the triplets chasing and being chased by bears around a mansion (the Christmas movie Beakley mentions they'll be watching, Christmas on Bear Mountain, is the same title that this comic had). However, he decided the character was interesting enough to write another comic about him the next year that explored some of his backstory, and from there he wound up becoming a main character, and as such they made him a more sympathetic character and he's become more sympathetic and less misanthropic with every subsequent iteration.
I love that they gave David Tennant, a guy whose biggest role was as fiction's most famous time traveler, the "ugh, time travelers" line.
Of course Beakley's into the Grim Reaper. She's a spy- she literally flirts with death! And yes, this does mean that the Ghost of Christmas Future is a Bond girl.
Young Donald is voiced by Russi Taylor, who voiced all the triplets and Webby in the original Ducktales. She was also the voice of Minnie Mouse from the 80s until her death in 2019 (this episode, released in 2018, was one of her last performances). The voice she uses for Donald in this episode is basically the same voice she used for the boys in the original show. Historically, the triplets were usually given similar voices to Donald- in fact, prior to the original Ducktales, they almost always used the same voice actor (Clarence Nash from their first on-screen appearance in 1938 until his death in 1985, and Tony Anselmo a handful of times since then).

I love how Mrs. Beakley was LITTERALLY flirting with Death.😂 Also, if the voices of the ghosts sound familiar, Past has the same VA as Fix-It Felix from Wreck-It Ralph, and Present's VA is also Patrick in SpongeBob. Also, Young Donald's voice is the same as all three triplets in the original 1987 Ducktales.

Young Donald was voiced by Russi Taylor, the original voice actor for the triplets, as well as a good number of other Disney characters. Sadly, this was one of her last performances before passing away in 2019

Gotta love Beakley literally flirting with Death.
Jack McBrayer as Past. Our good ol' wholesome Georgia boy. He's done a ton of stuff, but you most likely remember him as Fix-It Felix from Wreck-It Ralph.
Mad respect to them giving Donald the grunge aesthetic. Flannel and combat boots. That was my fit back in my highschool days. Except we didn't call it a "fit" back then... (continues rambling...)
The hope in the channel was that you'd be a few more episodes in before Arcane hit, but I think this worked out MUCH better.

btw the movie Mrs Beakley is talking about, "Christmas on bear mountain" is a comic from the 1940's and is the first appearance of Scrooge McDuck.

Yep and during Ragnarök, Jörmungandr would let go of its tail allowing the world to fall apart into chaos and after it would do battle with Thor the God of Thunder where the two end up killing each other. First Thor strikes the serpent dead then, after taking 9 steps away from his fallen foe, he falls over dead do to the venom coursing through his veins.

Child Donald is being voice acted by the person who voiced Huey, Dewey and Louie in the original ducktales series.

I love this episode! Speaking of, young Donald's voice is actually the voice of the triplets in the ORIGINAL Ducktales, one of the last things the VA did before she passed. Also, that last bit with the drawings is actually referencing the beginning of Disney's version of A Christmas Carol!

If I remember correctly, the voice actresses playing young Donald is Russi Taylor who played the triplets and Webby in the Original Ducktales show as well as Minnie Mouse in various projects before her passing in 2019.

So excited to see DuckTales back! You asked if there would be any references to Mickey’s Christmas Carol, with Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer Scrooge. The end credits of this episode are done in the same style as Mickey’s Christmas Carol!

for those that don't know: the World Serpent Jörmungandr is a Norse Mythology reference. One of the children of Loki, Jörmungandr is a serpent so big it circles Midgard (Earth) and bites it's own tail
Hi Elijah! The Hamish-hat sounds like a present for sometime next year. Or maybe several hats, for assorted occasions. Must be horns-compatible. Finery is fine, but let's make sure it's comfortable finery.

Oh we get to see Santa this season. Santa shows up in the season finale to give a gift to Glomgold for being such a good boy that year. It really is quite touching and a very thoughtful gift.
