WHAT COULD'VE BEEN!?!!?

Arcane s2 ep7 Pretend Like it's the First Time

Comments

Heimerdinger's arc is all about breaking free from one's comfort zone and unlearning complacency. In the first season we see how he's sequestered himself in his academy. He's ignorant not only to Zaun's suffering, but to Piltover's greed and politics as well. Then when he first joins the Firelights, he sequesters himself once more, assisting their community in a mostly passive role. Finally when he gets to this new timeline he DOES make efforts to improve things, but he's still resistant to even trying to return to the world where he failed to help everyone. It's important to note that Heimerdinger's failures don't make him malicious: he's genuinely altruistic and kind-hearted... he's just been stuck in his ways for far too long. He only realizes this thanks to Ekko's endless drive, which helps Heimerdinger find that old spark which once drove him to do things like found Piltover. In doing so, he realizes the same thing his friend did 200 years prior: There is no greater honour that giving your life to your students, so they may surpass you.

Heimerdinger is at fault for Zaun's poverty, which is why it's pretty clear in this episode that he'd spent the past 3 years using his resources to fix his mistakes. That's why the bridge is open, there's an inventor's context for Zaunites, and they've been given access to higher-quality clothing and technology.

I have three theories on what happened to Jayce in the no hextech timeline- 1: he died in the explosion too. 2: He survived, but was banished or imprisoned -having magic nearly got him banished in his world, Vi’s death would have a greater price- especially if Caitlyn was killed or hurt, since she was with Jayce that day. Or 3: if Piltover didn’t punish him, he probably unalived himself like he attempted in his universe, and nobody stopped him.

In a world where Vi dies(and Heimerdinger has the foresight to know exactly how to improve conditions for Zaun) Silco goes to comfort his oldest friend who just lost a daughter. He has no reason to pursue Shimmer because he’s not at war with Piltover. So he never becomes a chem baron. I’d be sorely tempted to stay in that timeline.

A Magic Duck

On the subject of Jayce in the AU, I don’t think he died or anything. If you remember what he was like in episode 1, young, a bit naive and incredibly idealistic. Now think what the impact of his work killing a child in his own home would have on him. He’d never touch Hextech again. Not that

If I was Ekko and I had a way back I will go back. There's a question here that really will eat at me on an ethical level. Ekko didn't travel to a new world where he didn't exist. Someone was Ekko in this world before Arcane Ekko arrived. Where is he? Is he on Arcane earth? Is he just in limbo? Where? Then the questions become am I willing to kill someone or sentence them to a fate worse than death for this life? Am I willing to steal someone else's life and abandon the fireflies and everyone? That how my mind thought about it during the episode before the end so yea. From that view point no. Now I might not try to recreate hex tech for the reasons that is wrong which means I have no way to return and so will stay there. In my mind that's a different ethical scenario than if there is a way back and I decide not to take it.

Also Silco's plan against Vander was very much escalated due to the Hex Tech heist bringing a lot more attention to the under city by enforcers and creating the perfect opportunity.

I think Heimerdinger's flaw with Zaun was inaction. Season 1 shows him as being aloof and letting the other council members do back door politicking and shady deals. I'm unsure how much he could have stopped Zaun from being oppressed but he still should have tried. He seemed to be completely unaware what was going on outside the academia. I actually think the more prominent way to stop what happened would have been him trying to make zaun better would stop people like Vicktor and Jayce from thinking hex tech was the only option to a better world. Still the same general plan but I think it's fair to say Heimerdinger's view on hex tech was correct even if he had other flaws and was partially responsible for Zaun. I say partially less to forgive him and more because everyone else on the council deserves a lot more blame it seems. Maybe except for Mel. Less due to her being a better person and more because she wasn't in Piltovsr for generations like they were and zaun is a generational problem

Personally, I would’ve stayed. I know it’s selfish on multiple levels, but I wouldn’t care. 😭💙

“This is coming to you to the future, but from the past”. Wow Mosco. What a line and one that has absolutely nothing to do with Arcane whatsoever. Maybe. 🤣🌈

You know, what I'm thinking? I'm thinking the fanfic writers now have a whole new canonical universe to play around in and build out to their heart's content.

Serinthia Kelberry

Would I stay or would I go... I'd REALLY want to stay... My community is thriving. I got the girl. I'm chasing my dreams and researching the impossible... but it isn't mine... I think in the end my sense of duty would win out, and I'd return to my own reality to try to set things right. But this is a beautiful vision of what could have been. Probably my favorite episode in the series.

Joey Quixote

I’m staying lol

Justin Stanford

i love that you introduce yourself very lovingly as an idiot, yet so many of the things you pinpoint literally from the go are just so... on point lol

Annieme

I actually love that they gave adult Mylo that particular mustache cuz lets be real: he’s the kind of person who would DEFINITELY grow that thing out thinking that it made him look suave 🤣

Noah

If I were Ekko, the only reason I'd leave is that I'd wonder if I was robbing another Ekko from this life. I'd feel selfish.

William Timmins

I think I would have gone back. I think seeing the outcome of the potential vision of Zaun that Vander, Benzo, Silco, Vi’s parents, the firelights, this new uprising - everyone in Zaun - believed in would have made me feel even more responsible and motivated to help be part of the solution and arrive at that better future, especially if I came face to face with how it was actually possible and what it looked like.

K Cianci

I actually like how this episode wrapped up Heimerdinger's arc. His biggest flaw in the main time line was him not trying to make any changes because of his perception of time (due to his immortality) and because he saw them as too risky - in which he was right regarding the Arcane, but which also lead him to let the class oppression fester between Piltover and Zaun. In the alternate timeline, he does say that he's accomplished things there; and we can assume that his actions played a role in this better reality unfolding (that and, of course, the butterfly effects of Vi's death). Accepting to help Ekko, even if it meant dealing with the Arcane again - the very thing he's always warned everybody about-, and making the quick decision to sacrifice himself to allow him to go back, were conclusions that fleshed him out as a character

Azirapalala

I would have gone back. I have to fix things. I think the figure with the hammer was Mel - you can see her family signet on her right hand.

Ryan Porter

It's crazy how sad I can be at a vision of everything being mostly awesome. And it reveals how much Powder's essential spirit when she isn't weighed down by countless traumas.

William Timmins

Of course Powder still has the hextech gems, she never figured out that they caused the explosion. But now she knows a lot about them, thanx to Ekko and Heimerdinger and chances are she doesn't ever use them...🤔🙂

silverarrow06

Is it just me that wanted to stay in this universe? Mainly cuz Silco still alive..BUT STILL XD

🍄autisticshroom🍄

The foreshadowing in the opening credits is always placed with the people at the center of the episode, in this case Ekko and Jayce. 🤩

silverarrow06

I gotta say, Powder's look at the party is absolutely killer

For those interested in a quick translation of the french song : You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me But also the worst thing that’s ever happened to me That day I met you, I may have preferred That day had never happened The worst of blessings The most beautiful of curses From you, I should walk away But as the saying goes : « Better be poorly accompanied than all alone » You know what they say Stay close to your dearest friends But also Keep your ennemies even closer But my best ennemy is you Run away from me, the worst is you and me But if you still keep searching for my voice Forget me, the worst is you and me Why does you name hurt me When it hides just there in the void What emotion is this – hatred Or tenderness, when I hear your name I told you : « don’t look back » The past following you is waging war But my best ennemy is you Run away from me, the worst is you and me But my best ennemy is you Run away from me, the worst is you and me I love you, I wait for you, I love you, I wait for you I love you, I wait for you, I love you, I wait for you I love you, I wait for you, I love you, I wait for you I love you, I wait for you, I love you, I wait for you I love you, I wait for you, I love you, I wait for you I love you, I wait for you, I love you, I wait for you I love you, I wait for you, I love you, I wait for you

Azirapalala

There's something different here. Did Mosco do something new with her hair?

Savitar

Minus you know Vi which I was not amused by, like the fact Vi dying means everything gets better, yeah no 😅

ItsSimmeRin

Man this was so wholesome

ItsSimmeRin

I saw a comment on YouTube that suggested that Jayce never created Hextech because of VI’s death. The council shut him down, so he’s either banished, his mother wasn’t able to save him from being banished from Piltover, or in jail for causing a death with his research.

jessie H

Hello mosco, lackadaisy just released a preview if your interested in reaching to it.

Eagle_spangled_tricolor

For me this is the most beautiful episode of the whole show. It is beautiful inside (story, character development) and out (the animation)...❤️‍🔥 So many tears, but finally happy tears...😅🙈

silverarrow06

Heimer no!!
