Another nice touch in the Island episodes is that not only do their clothes get worn out to show the passage of time, but also Sadie's leg hair starts growing out.

2024-10-20 17:01:14 +0000 UTCYeah, a person and their friends/boyfriend for a short period is one thing but going "I'm going to trap us three here for who knows how long because *I* think it's what's best for him regardless of what he wants/thinks" like Sadie fked up, I forgot how much ick island adventure is because I haven't seen it in ages. Like if the roles was reversed with those two people would be all over Lars yet I hardly see anything saying about the bs Sadie did here.

2024-10-11 15:50:13 +0000 UTCMy take on Lars and Sadie (at least as of this point in the story) is that it's a matter of convenient affection. I think the attraction is mutual, but the motives are skewed. Sadie strikes me as having confidence issues. That Lars might be the first guy that she felt seen by. The first guy, that she felt, didn't look down on her. When in truth, like you said, she could do better, and probably had a queue of viable suitors that just never stepped up. She's trying too hard to be Lars' "missing piece" and finish the puzzle when her life has only just begun. As for Lars, his confidence swings in the other direction. He thinks he's a bigger deal than he actually is. And while it's evident that he has feelings for Sadie, I think he feels like he could "do better". If say Jenny Pizza, someone of a higher social standing (at least at that age) showed interest him, I think Lars would drop Sadie. But since he currently doesn't have any other romantic prospects, Sadie's affection is... convenient. In short; While there is something mutual between them, at this point in their respective emotional journeys, it's for all the wrong reasons.

But she’s also kind of insane for pulling this sort of stunt. Lars might be an ass, but she’s very overbearing and is on his ass all the time. She trapped them on an island for who knows how long because she thought it’d be good for him. And is always trying to do stuff so he likes her. 😭 Anyway I really don’t blame Lars for being pissed lol

Serioulsly though, here we have two low self-esteem people who have glommed onto each other because (as far as they can see) there is no-one else around - and THEN they get trapped on a remote island which just turns it up to eleven. I love Sadie - she sure can step up when needed - but she falls into that creepy "romantic" idea of "movies/tv/novels have told me that dire situations make people fall in love, so if I create a crisis..." (and perhaps she is also thinking to trap Lars where there are no other women to distract him). Ick, ick ick. Lars, meanwhile, is still very much living the one-dimensional trope of "failing at acting tough" and hiding his feelings. Which is how we come to the song "Be Wherever You Are". It joyously promotes Steven's "live in the moment, smell the roses" nature. With each repetition, Lars yields more to this idea, starting to enjoy his time on the island, and then the kick: in the final repeat Steven switches to "Why don't you let yourself just be _whoever_ you are?". Stop trying to fake it Lars, just figure yourself out and be that person. You'll be happer, trust me! It's a sentiment I love, and I often sing that line to myself to remind me to be me.

Lars is an asshole, undoubtedly, but in a way that has much more to do with thoughtlessness and insecurity than malice--all in all a very realistic picture of a teenage boy that's unflattering and messy but not at all vilified. And Sadie is a very kind person who almost certainly deserves better than Lars, but while he has taken advantage of her people-pleasing nature in the past, she's holding herself to the pursuit of him far more than he is, and as we see here, she does have her own toxic traits, including an assumption that she knows what's best for him. It's a messy and immature relationship, and it's very human.

2024-10-10 19:27:11 +0000 UTCYep, early Lars is a piece of work, but remember, he is a teenager with close to no friend except Sadie and Steven and filled with insecurities, we see that he need time to open up and he care, but it's hard for him to do it. So, he feel like a real teenager would be in the end. Also, even if we see already with Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl and STEVEN, a lot of body shape, can we appreciate the design of Sadie, she is short of course, but she is built, and pretty badass, even if she was wrong for what she did.

Possibly because he has none but still. Sadie was way out of line here, a tropical island who knows where with any kind of poisonous insects, plants or aquatic life. Or diseases. One decent and unexpected storm and all three are dead except maybe Steven as I am unsure about his mortality vis a vis gem powers of healing.

Also I love Island Adventure so much… even though it’s one of the rare episodes where Sadie matches Lars clod energy
