The Book of Destiny! It Got Freaky!

Dragon Prince s2 ep8 Full, Early, Uncut

I wonder how long it'll take for her to realize that it's all in his head and it's his subconscious combined with dark magic to try to corrupt him and everything else including king harrow is his subconscious without dark magic meaning it doesn't mean anything in the real world (I'm at 24 minutes)

Daniel Potts

Remember in Harrow's letter, he said that the cube once belonged to an elven wizard named Aaravos, who mastered all primal sources, and was known as the 'Key of Aaravos'...and now you've met him.

Flufux

"It's good that I'm paralyzed! Now I don't have to murder children to appease my father!" That's... a take. A thing I noticed is that "Dark Callum" has the same carriage and vocal cadence as Viren. Dunno if that's the voice of Dark Magic, or if his subconscious sees Viren as the embodiment thereof.

Why are you trying to kill us via alcohol poisoning?

Syllephia

Every time Mosco forgets that Amaya is Callum's mother's sister, take a shot.

Arabic Tome: "Elarion, trembling seed, lay down to earth in icy night, and in the cold her roots took hold defying winter’s deathly bite. Elarion, fading bloom, afraid to wilt and dim and die, she searched the dark for but a spark and caught the dragons’ hungry eye. Elarion, frightened waif, reached bone-white branches to the night, the stars she asked their light to cast and stop the dragons’ fiery might. Elarion, unworthy whelp, Wept as the stars turned black the sky, They donned their masks They turned their backs, And left Elarion to die. Elarion, dying husk, did wilt and whimper in the dark, ‘till the last star Reached from afar His touch: a blaze, a gift, a spark. Elarion, searing white, Embraced the Great One’s night-black flame. And when she bowed, Her faith avowed, He whispered, “Aaravos,” his name. Elarion, black-eyed child, her twisted roots spread deep and far, The humans’ might sparked by the light of Aaravos, her midnight star."

Fallen Star

Italian Tome: "Of all Primal Sources, the stars are the most mysterious. No other creatures except Startouch Elves have understood the Star Arcanum and, unlike other primal sources, human mages have exhausted themselves by just trying to express the concept in words. The study of the stars is made more difficult by the scarcity of magical creatures connected to the stars. The only known creatures connected to the stars are the mysterious Startouch Elves and the rare, fascinating unicorns. Dark mages have tried to hunt the unicorns to better understand their power, but their stellar magic and their devious cunning make them almost impossible to hunt. As for Startouch Elves, there is very little trace of their existence in Xadian literature. They seem evasive, inscrutable, distant from the rest of elvish society. No Startouch Elf has ever been seen by humans - except one. Known by many names in ancient stories - "The Fallen Star", the last of the Great Ones, the bearer of gifts. But his real name was Aaravos. Words mentioning his name have been truncated since the time of the great schism, although there are disagreements about his role in historical events. Some describe him as a beneficent figure, an ally of humanity, willing to share his great magical power with those who needed it the most. Other portray him as..." ...as what? Again.. creators really like to tease us

Fallen Star

Danish Tome: "Finally he told me his name. I had never heard a name like his. But I had also never imagined an elf like him. He is stronger, older, and wiser than any other magical creature in Xadia. Despite that, he is a friend to all humans. Where others look down on us, calls us inferior, he sees great potential in us. When we accept the gifts that Aaravos has promised us, they will pay for their conceitedness, they will be forced to see us as equals. And when we are equals, we can take our fate into our own hands and build our future. I see it before me in my dreams, and grand, glorious city. The pride of all of humanity. A place where we are no longer forced to hide, pale and frostbitten, from the prejudices of elves and dragons. A place that can stand against any abuse/assault, and stand in the history of mankind for generations. It will not be easy, but with help from our benefactor..." You can't just stop it there!

Fallen Star

You wanna know what Viren tried to read? Cause you can! Creators, along with season 2, released 3 "ancient tomes" so we could find out some stuff about the mysterious elf in the mirror. One of them is in Danish (the one you tried to decipher), and the others are in Italian and Arabic. I'll leave translated versions in replies (don't worry about spoilers, we got those before we got season 3)

Fallen Star

Not featuring Sokka in Callum's dream sequence is a huge missed opportunity, IMO

Entities who never lie scare the heck out of me. They say they never lie. Not that they never mislead or never use deception. The most dishonest people don't need to lie.

Suplee215

Why must you point it out now my brain can’t unsee it

Brianna Valeriano

I believe the texts we see about Aaravos are in Old Norse (maybe Old English) or something of the sort! The language resembles Danish/Norwegian and is sort of readable if you focus.

Kriss slordal

Unreleated but the way both you and elijah went "on the one hand, symbolism. on the other hand, DOES THIS MEAN HARROW IS TRAPPED IN THE BIRD????" I died laughing.

Kit

That's what I don't understand. Unsynchronized sound, yeah that happens. But how could it happen essentially on part of the image, but not on the other? Either Mosco and the DP should both be synced, or both be *out* of sync. It befuddles me.

David Johnson

The coo is askew!

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Can’t wait until you reach the part where Aaravos and Viren conceive a child together.

As a writer, dream sequences are one of my absolute favorite things. Because of this, I have spent way too much time analyzing Callum's sick dream. Its ingenious and I am going to dump my ramblings below. There are no spoilers ahead for future stuff btw. Sorry for the ensuing essay. 1. Callum wakes on a bed of keys which the cube--named the Key of Aaravos (who we now know to be the sparkly elf in the mirror)-- is hidden in, much like how it was hidden in the Banther lodge. This entire season, Callum has been playing with the cube, watching it light up for others, and always being disappointed when it doesn't glow for him. For the first time, it *does* glow for him, but with a dark magic rune (which isn't on the real cube btw). It's what he always wanted, but not in the way he wanted, so he tries to reject it. 2. When talking to his dark self (which, depending on your interpretation, can be a physical manifestation of dark magic, or just Callum battling his darkest wants and desires), his dark self mentions that Callum can use dark magic for good. He's trying to appeal to the "its not the magic that's evil, but how its used" which is the same idea Claudia and Viren subscribe to. Its obviously faulty, given the nature of how dark magic is cast, but it is setting up potential Viren/Callum parallels, because Viren does use dark magic for good in his eyes (think saving the two kingdoms with the titan's heart). 3. THE HARROW SECTION aka The Dragon Prince Thesis pt. 2. Harrow in this scene is the good in Callum's consciousness. He repeats the message from the letter about Callum being free from the great lie of history (the lie being that strength is power, not love), and tells Callum he is free to choose his own future. This is a subset of the thesis of the show, which is that we must *choose* to build a future based on love, this time manifesting as the quintessential quote "Destiny is a book you write yourself." Furthermore, in the letter, Harrow literally tells Callum to "reject the chains of history" to embrace a brighter future. In the dream, Harrow is chained, symbolizing his failure at rejecting said chains during his life, instead opting to continue the cycle of violence that resulted in his downfall. Harrow insisting to Callum that he is free while he himself is chained to the throne is just....it hits me every time. 4. The dream continues because, even though Callum has rejected dark magic, he is still in a state of turmoil because he wants to be able to do magic so badly. So he's back on the ship--the place he went the farthest to learn magic earlier. For a moment, it feels like he's making progress. He's now a sail, and is able to feel the wind. He's flying. However, when we zoom out, Callum is holding the primal stone, symbolizing that the brief progress he felt was do to the external factor of the primal stone, which Callum smashed, effectively destroying his ability to do magic. When we zoom back, Callum's life is in shambles because of his decision to smash the orb. He's no longer flying. In fact, he's struggling to swim. Now that he's ventured out into the sea of learning magic but destroyed the vessel that was helping him, he's left drowning in his confusion and desperation to learn magic. Its overwhelming, which is symbolized by him sinking into the sea.

Kit

That didn't happen to me, so maybe your computer glitched?? Wild tho

Hey Mosco, i asked discord and had positive feedback on the following: I was checking the episodes of s3, and maybe a good place to pause “naturally-ish” would be episode 3? To give you an idea of whats to come but not leave you on an epic cliffhanger 🤷

Annieme

As a reminder, Harrow referred to the cube as the "key of Aaravos" in his letter to Callum :)

RibKoboldScout

"I hope Aaravos makes Viren suffer!" Mosco, your Slytherin is showing. Remember how they made a big deal in season one of the double headed soul fang serpent, and how it could move a person's soul into another body, and then seemingly never used it? Soren's body is broken, but his mind and soul are still intact. What is a fantasy series without a body swap episode?

Ryan Porter

I can just continue to recommend to you, that if possible you pre-record Season 3 since it is so much more comfortable to pause the series after that.

Adrian

Goddammit! I can't unsee it now.

Syllephia

The shelf under Hamish looks slightly askew and it's bothering the shite out of my OCD. I can't stop looking at it.

BlueEyedRaven

Great reaction! One technical point, for some reason, your sound was slightly ahead of the video...but oddly the show was still synced. I can't even figure out how that happens.

David Johnson

I will say, that the end of Season 3 is a REALLY good stopping point, if you were able to do one more season before going on Hiatus? Regardless, enjoying watching you going through it. Ah, I love this show!

Ríon

Aaravos is the GOAT. Show some respect!
