I’m really enjoying your reaction videos and I bought a subscription to watch to your Steven universe reactions. Not having the songs available on YouTube drove me over here. If you could turn the volume up on the show that’d be great! I’m sure you already have considered it, but in case you haven’t, you might be able to increase your production value (relatively easily) by watching on headphones and capturing your audio separate from the show’s audio.

2024-07-25 22:28:15 +0000 UTCA good rule of thumb in this: the gems don’t care much for human constructs regarding gender. but since they all present as female, they’re all referred to using she/her, and they don’t mind. because to them, it’s a human thing. In real life: I think people would just say which they prefer if asked. Like, if you go up to a costumed wrestler(fem or nb) who is presenting as male and you asked “hey what do I call you”, they’ll probably just say. It is never rude to want people to feel safe in your presence.

So good. :’3c Also, side note: this show doesn’t do “forshadowing” …it does …TAUNTING. This is a serialised show masquerading as an “episodic”/“monster-of-the-week” show… So, tldr, of COURSE Lion is a one off character. ;3 And no one off character EVER comes back later in this show. 😌✨

So you might want to look up the order or have someone who has seen it do it. If I remember it tends to start 2/3 the way in season 1 and around the beginning of season 2.

2024-07-09 02:14:30 +0000 UTCAt 9:20 Actually, the crowd loves Steven and Amethyst, and their methods. They're supposed to boo them. The thing with American wrestling is that it's less of a sport, and more like a weird stage play where all the fighters have elaborate costumes, over the top theatrics, and backstories for their personas. You have the "good guys", and the "heels", the bad guys the audience is supposed to root against. Steven and Amethyst are said heels. The crowd and the other wrestlers KNOW they're going to play dirty and play along with it. Steven was right, it all WAS just playing, and the crowd was in on it. In real life, at least some of the fight, and possibly the outcome is scripted so no one goes too far, and the fans know it's fake. They suspend their disbelief and just enjoy the specticle. Lars however, fully believed the fantasy, and Steven didn't know to dial it back. Disrespecting a fan like that is seen as going too far. THAT'S when Tiger Millionaire stops being viewed as a stage villain in their eyes and starts being seen as an actual jerk.

They're both very stubborn about their way of thinking, and they can let their flaws get the better of them. (They have another fairly large similarity, but while it isn't a plot spoiler I think it's better to discover on your own.) I know it sometimes frustrates people, but I love them FOR their flaws. It makes them such great characters to follow. :D

I'm stealing it for this sorta-spoiler reply (because I don't think we get any canon answers, this is just my view of it) XD Because we didn't see any of the other gems when we saw her with the pride of lions, I always just assumed that she was on some kind of personal mission/retreat/exploration at the time. She met and befriended them - one of them being Lion I assume since he has the same nose - something happened to him to cause the change (we can guess what, given later events) and that's basically it. I always just viewed it as an example that everyone - no matter how well you know them - has parts of their life they don't share. Since Pearl says explicitly later that as far as she knew Rose never had a lion, I think this was just an example of this. There's always going to be stuff about the people we love that we know nothing about. And I think it was expressly to teach this lesson to Pearl that it was included. Again, though, not canon, just my thoughts.

I'm not into wrestling but know enough about it to get how it works and a lot of the specific jokes. But I was watching the show with my cousin, and she has never watched wrestling and knows nothing about it, so she spent the episode largely confused lol.

Their loving tribute to their beloved pet is immortalized in this series. I'm gonna have a hard time not getting misty-eyed for all of his upcoming appearances. Well, maybe not the AU arc where he actually does talk. Turns out he's just some free-loader named Gavin who's looking for a posh worry free life. Nobody likes Gavin. But his tape collection is out of this world.

In this case, when Purple Puma is introduced, Mr. Smiley refers to 'He/Him', and this can be considered the correct pronouns for the character of Purple Puma, similar to your friend's experience.

Tiger Millionaire is one of my favourite episodes, I watch wrestling so I loved seeing Amethyst and Steven act like heels (simply put the bad guy in a match). Garnet and Pearl trying to play along after they wanted to back off was so good, Pearl trying to sound so menacing when saying that she wants to stop all wrestling gets me every time. Steven's Lion is a good episode, and shows how Steven is getting better at handling Gem stuff. He messed up with the sand on the beach but fixed it almost as soon as it happened, and showed some great improvements to his athleticism. I am very glad that you like Lion. Once again thank you for doing these reactions and I hope they do well on YouTube, I know it will likely be a headache for the episodes that have songs and also WB can be pretty rude with copyright claims. Steven Universe is a very well-loved show and I think you'll get plenty of people who want to tune in.

All of the gems are technically genderless but they all use she / her pronouns. The gem species are meant to be a representation of the creators own gender identity. She is nonbinary and uses she/ her and they/them pronouns :) Steven being the exception to that rule likely because he's half human~ The giving birth thing is kinda a spoiler so I'll leave it at that~ Also a fun fact: Steven as a character is based on the creators little brother!

You asked if Crystal Gems can have children regardless of gender...it's not really particularly spoilery, but I think it's a topic for a bit later. "Pink? How can it be invisible and pink?" Lol invisible pink unicorn reference. I love how Lion acts more like a realistic animal (magic powers and pink color aside,) unlike many cartoon pets who emote like a human and seem to understand every single word said to them. Also, fun fact regarding She-Ra: In the original She-Ra, Catra had a pink lion as her pet/ride named Clawdeen (a lioness with a mane...damn, even her lion is queer!) But when making the She-Ra reboot, the creators rightfully felt the design was extremely similar to Lion here, leading to them making her animal companion something different. Melog's design is based on one-off monster of the same name from the og cartoon (a mud creature made from Shadow Weaver's magic that shapeshifts into She-Ra to fight her) and og Catra's purple panther form she transforms into with her magical mask.
