This show likes to make you overlook and wave away things off because “it’s a child’s cartoon” and full of common silly “tropes.” (God I love this show-) As others have said: watching this show through a child’s lens: fun! …Watching it through an adult’s lens: . . . Well, I’ll let you figure it out yourself. ;3 All in all this is a 100% completely episodic silly show with no overarching plot or call backs. And nothing in these first few episodes are relevant later. And that was TOTALLY regular shapeshifting, just like Amethyst was doing, that went wrong and nothing else! Have fun! :Dc

Good job, team! 😁 I think if I had the ability to shape-shift, and my very first attempt (as a child) resulted in me almost losing control and permanently becoming a shapeless ball of cats, I'm pretty sure I'd never attempt it again.

I don't think it's a spoiler to say that the first time his age is mentioned in the show itself is when he's 14, and that seems to be at least 2 years from the start. So I think it's more likely he's 11-12 at the beginning, but he does act more like he's 8 at this point.

But no matter what age steven seems like, Pearl has learned to accept that sometimes he can act like a real clod!

Gems normally only shapeshift very consciously and intentionally, so this getting so out of hand seems to be a result of him being a hybrid, which I like. Often when the protagonist is half insert-some-fantasy-being-here, it feels like they mostly just get cool powers and some typical weakness or two from the non-human side.
