so ... jumped on the patreon for this show (really love seeing it get some love) so not sure if there was discussion ahead of time, but are we all aware of the "correct" viewing order from the creators? season one got a bit messed up in it's release.

I love how they took Webby, one of the most forgettable characters from the original show, and made her the best character in the reboot.

As for a money goes, it's not that Scrooge wouldn't help with money, with some prodding, it's that Donald wouldn't take it, Donalds values his independence, is too responsible, loves his family to where he can't just use them at and ATM and above all is too "STUBBORN" to take a handout.

Specifically, Scrooge's sister Hortense is Donald's mother.

Ok just to set things straight, Donald is the boys’ uncle, and Scrooge is his uncle.
Which means that the boys’ mom is Donald’s sister, and that Scrooge is the boys’ great uncle.
Hope this helps! 😁

The subtitles are a good move. I watched without them, and I just guessed what Donald was saying because that voice is 100% unintelligible!

In the original Donald Duck comic strips made over 80 years ago, the triplets' mom left them to stay with Donald, because the super mischievous kids put firecrackers under their dad's chair and he ended up in the hospital. It was supposed to be just an origin story to explain why the triplets are staying with Donald and the parents were never really mentioned again after that, despite the mom indicating they would come back after the dad is better.
The dad is a big mystery, with even Don Rosa who made these much more serious comics with complex lore about the Duck family never revealing who he was, with even his family tree portrait being intentionally obscured.

I love that in this version the triplet nephews get their own characterization and voices. In the original they were basically indistinguishable. If you are familiar with any other Disney cartoon shows from the late 80s to mid 90s then you will be in for several easter egg treats to come! Oh, and the Mom story is pretty anti-climatic. She went out for a pack of gum and hasn't come home yet. She's probably still out there chewing it.

Remember how you sometimes point at the screen then remember we can't see what you're pointing at? Same here when you said "did we get (the bad guy's) name? I don't think so" during the same "employee training video" where he said it. Half the patrons say "Flintheart Glomgold!" and then smack our foreheads because of course you can't hear us.

In Webby's first scene she was super-duper excited, so yes, her voice was a bit much.

Glad you're liking it! A reboot done right! All/most of the returning characters have added depth to them, which is necessary since this is far more story driven than the '87 series.
The cast is amazing! Another voice you might have recognized was Beck Bennett voicing Launchpad McQuack. Perhaps you were instinctively annoyed by him because he also voiced the insufferable Sir Thoddeus in Nimona.
Webby can be a little much at times, but I assure you, she's no Mabel Pines! Honestly, she's probably my favorite character in the main cast. A major improvement from the original series where she was effectively the token girl character who was always under foot. She's a bit of a scene-stealer, but she is the focal point of some good stories.

Donald's voice does take a while to understand, and I know it can't be easy with one practically deaf ear, but hopefully you'll get used to it. Also, Webby may have voice and disposition like Mabel's , but her personality and interests are much closer to Dipper. And Launchpad is like the Grog of the series, he's not the smartest or most competent, but sooner or later you can't help but love him.

Fun fact: Launchpad is actually speaking Swedish in that scene with the phone. It is absolutely butchered, the actor probably had no coachning in how to speak Swedish, but what he is saying is:
"Hi Beakley. Sabina (s?) has talked so much about you over fish balls (a type of meal)"
Then the break happens after which he says "Ojdå" with good pronounciation, meaning essentially "Oh no!".

Hello! Disney nerd.
Haven't checked the comments yet but Donald Duck rarely ever changes voice actor because as you can imagine not an easy one to do. If you are hearing Donald from officially released merchandise you are likely hearing Tony Anselmo, who took over from his mentor Clarence Nash, the original Donald Duck. Outside of Daniel Ross who voiced the character in a more recent show there have been 2 Donalds in the character's near 90 year history
While Scrooge McDuck has had more voice actors the mainstay was British-born actor Alan Young. Sadly Young passed away 2 years before this show premiered. It's extremely unlikely Tennant will take over the role permanently given how manic his schedule is and Scrooge has been voiced by other actors before this show but after Young's death and since it ended

The reason Glomgold is played by an American is he's actually a time traveler from the far future when continental drift has caused Scotland to merge with New England so everyone from Connecticut to the Shetlands sounds like that

Webby might be my favorite character in the show but whether you find her voice annoying is going to be subjective. I can see her voice reminding you of Mabel but I think her personality is a lot more like Dipper as far as Gravity Falls character comparisons.

Yeah, I'm also super impressed how good Keith Ferguson's Scottish accent is. He's one of my favorite VAs, it's rare two of his performances sound alike. I don't know what shows he's in you've seen, but he did voice one of those two cops in Gravity Falls. Also, Glomgold is one of Scrooge's arch rivals from the original series too, but his design was a lot thinner.

Disney's official archivist, Dave Smith, gave a good way to remember which nephew is which: "You can remember this by noting that the brightest hue of the three is red (Huey), the color of water, dew, is blue (Dewey), and that leaves Louie, and leaves are green."
The (Mc)Duck family tree is incredibly elaborate and complex, but Webby gave the condensed version: Scrooge is Donald's uncle and Huey, Dewey, and Louie's great-uncle. Scrooge's sister Hortense is the mother of Donald and his sister, and Donald's sister is the mother of Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Showing her at the end of this episode was a HUGE deal: she had never been shown in animation before, and only even mentioned in one cartoon, the one that introduced the triplets. Even in the comics, AFAIK she'd only ever been shown or named in the European ones, never anything in English.
As for their father, he's even more mysterious. He has never been definitively shown or named in any cartoon or comic, though one or two possible pictures or names have been circulated here and there. He's a total enigma and there's a lot of fan speculation. My favorite theory is one proposed by Disney comic artist and "Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" author Don Rosa as a joke: the nephews are the result of a forbidden cross-company romance between Donald's sister and Daffy Duck.

They basically tried to make the art style look like the comics done by Carl Banks, the man who basically created the whole Scrooge/Donald/Nephews story line. This is especially noticable in the intro.
There are a lot of nods here to the original 80s "Ducktales" and the other Disney shows on at the time. For instance the mention of heading to "Cape Suzette" is from the show "TaleSpin."
One *big* difference between this series and the original is that Huey, Duey and Luey are actually *different characters.8 They're not interchangeable, with only their color schemes to distinguish them.
Scrooge has always been said to have "three cubic acres of cash" in his money bin.

Also, I put the family tree in the Discord, but in case you missed it: Donald and Scrooge aren't brothers, they're nephew and uncle. The triplets are Scrooge's great-nephews, but also call him uncle for short.

What can I say except "Ducktales, WOOHOO!" I'm so happy you're reacting to this. I forgot Dana Terrace directed a lot of these episodes, just another reason they're so great. It's one of the best reboots I've ever seen. And David Tennant is amazing as always, the perfect Scrooge. Just be sure to watch season one in production order rather than airing order. It flows a lot smoother. Also, to clarify, Scrooge is Donald's uncle, and the triplet's great uncle. I know the family tree can get confusing. And that building isn't a bank, it's Scrooge's personal depository. He literally needs an island to hold all his wealth.😆

Ooh, Dana Terrace IS in the credits, I wasn't sure if I'd made that up or not. But if you pause about halfway through she's listed under "additional animation" couldn't remember if she'd worked on this or gravity falls...turns out it's both. Do we know what she's been doing since Owl House wrapped up?

Scrooge being able to swim in money is a hard-learned skill. Some comics have shown him using it as a trap, as it were, making others think they can also dive in, but then they just get hurt xD

it definitely helped that a lot of us had watched the original show as kids. (though i remember being extra skeptical because of that) but the show really won me over quick, especially once the story starts getting a little more serialized. Similar to owl house ducktales really hits it's strike about halfway in the first season, and season 2 is excellent throughout.

One major thing I love about the animation style in particular is that it's very close to comic books. I didn't grow up with Ducktales, but the comics it is more-or-less based on, so that was a good plus for me. And this one is even more based-on-the-comics than the old one. Woohoo!
