As for what magical item I would have, well that would be spoilers 🦁

It has been a few years since I read any Percy Jackson books, but what I gathered from them is that Olympus follows the seat of power in the real world, always hiding in plain sight within the most powerful empire at the time, as Percy Jackson is set in modern day, the seat of power is America. If it was set in the 19th century then it would be western Europe.

22:09 "But yeah, that'd be... in-Fury-ating" XD One of my favorite things about these books is that their versions of the myths, in most cases, are fully consistent with the original myths. Basically the whole thing is a canon-compliant fanfic of Greek mythology, so the myths themselves are automatically a kind of "extended canon" for the books. Being myths, they have had lots of different retellings that are not always consistent, but this version of Medusa's story dates back at least to Ovid's Metamorphoses (8 AD). I also really like how the books justify the American setting -- basically, by saying that the gods moved there in the same way they moved from Greece to Rome, following the center of political and cultural power in "the West". Riordan also points out, via Chiron and Mr. D in the first book, that you can find the Greek and Roman gods all over in the US, especially in proximity to political power. It's way more true in real life than you might think.

Regarding Los Angeles, that's not actually a joke about the city itself. In the books, it's established that the Greek Myth world reflects how things were arranged in ancient Greece. The entrance to the Underworld is in LA because it's *always* as far west as you can go.

you was right about medusas backstory, shes a symbol for sa survivors, athena punished her as she couldnt punish him and it was athena as he sa' her in athenas temple

Per your question of why Percy & Co. can't take a cruise to Los Angeles, since that's his father's domain, is an easy one to answer: There's not enough time. Percy has 7 days to complete his quest. A bus ride from NY to LA would take about 4 days, but a cruise would have to go all the way down to the Panama Canal and up again, so it would take at least 18 days.

I have to admit, I like the Neil Gaiman explanation better: The gods live in America because people from all over Europe (and other places) immigrated there and brought their gods with them.

You were right about Medusa's backstory. She is a victim who then becomes vilified. I like how in this series, both the books, and so far in this show the gods are not as "Good" as they want to be perceived.

the necklace annabeth is wearing has beads, and percy's doesn't because the beads signify how many years you've been at camp!!

That's Lin Manuel Miranda at the end, who wrote Hamilton musical and the music to Encanto. Disney just has him locked in their basement now lol. Also, as an America, I too am very tired of everything being set in America. The book-canon explanation is that the gods move with "the heart of the west" or whatever country is the most powerful. So they've been in Rome, Spain, England, etc etc. As a kid I imagined I would have a little rose quartz ring that would become a sword when I took it off... ANYWAYS great reaction, so glad you're enjoying it! Happy New Year!

The guy in the elevator, the actor is Lin-Manuel Miranda. That's probably one of the reasons why the camera lingered on his face for awhile.

THIS episode is the best example of an adaptation I've ever seen. It stays true to the source material in themes, characters, and general story, but it does something new with the circumstances that ultimately elevates the story to new heights and it makes me feral. I definitely recommend rereading the book after the show is over to compare cuz it's super cool! Medusa's story has a few different variations but essentially you're initial thought is correct: Medusa caught Posiedon's eye so he "took her on a date" to Athena's temple. This disrespected and thus angered Athena and so she punished Medusa because she couldn't punish Posiedon himself. They definitely had to mess with the telling of the myth to both appease Disney and juxtapose Annabeth who is still loyal to her mom.
