2025-09-13 23:26:39 +0000 UTCMy preferred God parent would probably be Hades, since in the actual myths, he was one of the most chill, reasonable gods there were, and because he and his wife persephone actually had perhaps the most loving, functional relationship in Ancient Greece. So, good role models for a stable homelife.

Not only does she play the role perfectly, but I'm glad for the African American kids who watch this and have a chance to see themselves in this intelligent, skilled, daughter of the goddess of wisdom.

And he had to say so that cause a lot of people were mad that she wasn’t a white blonde anymore and were harassing her so while the casting wasn’t made to break the trope it does add another layer to the character that wasn’t there before

2023-12-25 22:41:23 +0000 UTCDon't worry about it, asking questions is the first step to understanding. There is a stereotype of black people (particularly black men) being stupid. I don't think that was the intention with the casting, to be clear, but it does still fit the theme regardless. "People of color" is more a catch-all for non-white. Depending on who you ask, either "black" or "African-American" is preferred.

I just assumed that they cast her because she was the best to audition (likely still the case!) but thats so cool to know thank you!!

If I had to pick a cabin it'd be probably Apollo for no real reason 2.) as a hardcore fan of the series since 2009 I think them hiring a black actress to play Annabeth was the perfect and an amazing choice. Young Woman of Color particularly young black girls intelligence are constantly being undermined and underestimated so the fact young black girls can now see themselves in annabeth is beautiful to me 3.) You'll grow to like Clarisse in time

If I have any complaint about set design it's that the statues aren't painted, as they would have been in ancient Greece. I know it would look weird to most people, used to the modern paint's-worn-off white marble, but it still triggers me. What can I say, I'm a high nit-pick threat environment.
