She-Ra s4 ep12 Destiny pt1 Full, Unedited, early

OH MY GOD THIS SHOW CONTINUES TO FIND NEW WAYS TO BLOW ME AWAY WTF

She-Ra s4 ep12 Destiny pt1 Full, Unedited, early

Comments

from what I gathered the world is divided into a set of Principalities each led by a Princess. We have seen no real industry or cities aside from the horde so my personal guess would be that it's mostly agricultural. Another thing is that there are no soldiers, only guards. Guards would be more similar to a police force rather than a military which would explain their absence during the Battle of Brightmoon, they would just get slaughtered by the actually trained soldiers from the Horde. Brightmoon having a Queen instead of a Princess does seem to indicate that Brightmoon is higher in the hierarchy compared to the other Principalities but seeing that the other Princesses can just leave the Alliance whenever they want this must be more of a cultural/prestigious position rather than an actual higher place in the political hierarchy. I suggest we look at this society less like a medieval-feudal system but more like a late tribal society.

Aw thanks! Nimona’s a gem of a movie & my favourite too

Childofthestars111

best profile picture ever Nimona is my favourite movie of all time i just needed to say that

SK- Eferthigra

I think it’s interesting Bright Moon and the rest of the world don’t have prisons or any real army, both are totally alien and only the Horde has them. I can’t remember if you ever see more than 2 guards at the same time, but I’d say the whole world seems to have always relied on the Princesses, but it’s pretty difficult to infer exactly what the political structures are, the information presented to us is a lot more “vibes-based” than geopolitical details based.

Verdigree

Ahhh I loved this reaction! I actually agree on the comments bout Catra, especially her in season 3 and 4. She still has potential to be redeemed, but like you said, trauma doesn’t justify literal physical abuse. And damn the reaction to DT and Glimmer working together was hilarious. Looking forward to next episode, where nothing bad happens ever!

Childofthestars111

Catra's actions are not truly justified. But they have reasons. And once those reasons are acknowledged, then the healing can begin. But yeah, she's goin' Cray Cray. Like becoming a Pirate? Alongside Sea Hawk? Preposterous! Why would she look towards the freedom of the seas?

LightSpyre

In the YouTube comments for that video, Mosco even argued that straight-up hiring DT as a counterspy was too risky. :-P I guess we'll find out soon if she was correct...

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Thank you! Ignoring or "understanding" why someone is being abusive does not absolve them from their actions, it's called Generational Trauma/Abuse. Anyone and everyone can fall prey to passing the blame for their negative qualities to their traumas, but the strongest of us rise above our ego and make a positive change.

Tsu Aloe Vera

But the thumbnail for this has to be Mosco’s shocked face and just the tablet with DT’s little winky face, right?

Jenny D

He even managed to set aside his differences with Glimmer so they could get Scorpia there to convince Catra she needs help.

Jenny D

Ah gotcha! Yeah YouTube comments run the gamut of outlandish takes. While I do believe that the horde strongly discouraged any physical contact that wasn’t violent (e.g. if you look at Catra and Adora’s interactions when they were best friends, they were always roughhousing) that doesn’t make it ok for Catra, or anyone, to be physically abusive to those around them.

Jenny D

Dont worry its no one on Patreon, its the Youtube comments that have said some startling things! I think I removed one of them because I actually hid the user from my channel who was totally justifying her actions of physical abuse, their comment was along the lines of "well yeah, she's physically abusive have you seen whats happened to her?" and the air of it read like someone who's justifying their own rubbish behaviour in real life based on how much everyone loves this fictional character because they're alike. It gave me the ick so had to say something specifically to that person and people like them that they NEED to get help because thats not normal!

Mosco Moon

I reckon a lot of people probably interpreted your reaction towards catra as if you didn't understand her complexity and stuff, because it definitely is possible to have sympathy for a character's situation whilst condemning the negative impact they have on others at the same time. Most people have more of a "you've had such a shitty life and I hope things get better for you, but you really need to work on how your behaviour affects others and break the cycle before it can" view of catra, rather than a "you're a horrible person and deserve nothing until you change and at this point i don't really care if you die" type of view, which is what your view appears to be (i think?). I dont think I've personally seen anyone believe that catra's actions are okay or excusable, just that they understand the root causes and want her to find a way out of her circumstances and behavioural cycle so that she can become happy after everything she endured, and at the same time wish for the people around catra to enforce their boundaries and to not take any of her shit. Also of course people have very strong attachment to catra due to relating to her, so they be pretty defensive for her but generally i still dont see them actually defending her abusive actions specifically, just defending her as a character that deserves to not be given up on like how the rebellion didnt give up on entrapta despite her creating deadly weapons to put against them (not fully the same situation I know) If that makes sense. Words can get hella funky, especially online

Tahlia Bro

Lonnie also smirked at Catra while intervening with her and Adora's training as young teens. When Catra got promoted, she seemed to rub it in to Lonnie specifically. Their relationship was definitely antagonistic, but it's interesting that based on some of Lonnie's tone and expressions she has also started to feel sympathy towards Catra lately because she is clearly so unwell (while also not taking her shit.)

Vilmu

if you finish the season you can talk about it with Elijah during the holliday, it's tempting not ? :p (what, emotional manipulation, never!) great react, the revelation with the Guard useless was....perfect :p

Glorinfeld

33:58 did not disappoint!

Jenny D

Your reaction to the reveal that DT was in cahoots with Glimmah is why I don't think you should react to the trailer... "Hello, Force Captain." Oh no, Catra's gonna die. Good thing she's got.... wait... (counts on fingers). Oh.

Ryan Porter

The guard abuse from Mosco throughout this reaction! I’m not even 15 minutes in, but the anticipation of getting to the end of the episode is KILLING ME!

Jenny D

One thing I do want to say about Catra and Lonnie is that, despite what Kyle claims, I don’t think they were ever friends. In fact, I believe in 1x03 it’s implied that Lonnie used to bully Catra. She says something like, “Easy, Catra. Adora isn’t here to protect you anymore.” At the end of that episode Catra is made Force Captain, so we never get to follow up on that dynamic. I’m still not saying it justifies how Catra has been treating Lonnie now though. I just thought I’d provide that context to add to the complicated layers of their interactions.

Jenny D

I hope my comment about Catra a couple episodes ago didn’t come across as me justifying or excusing her behavior. I’m pretty sure I clarified that I could understand how she got to where she is and was only saying that I feel sad for her, which I do, but of course I don’t think that there’s any justification for the bad things she’s done. I’m one of the fans who thinks Catra, if she lived in our world, could be diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). I went through the group therapy program for it back when I was misdiagnosed, and from both the therapists as well as other group members I learned a lot about the disorder, which I think is part of why I’m able to sympathize with Catra, while still being upset by the actions she’s taken.

Jenny D

I said it in a previous episode's comments, but there's a big difference between understanding why someone made a particular choice, and thinking it is the correct choice.

SweetCandle

DT just throws rocks and enjoys the patterns the ripples make.

SweetCandle

If you don't make a gif of that "it was Glimmer" moment and make it merch, it's a missed opportunity.

JHB

Ohhhh… I can’t wait for you to see when one of those “useless” guards is actually the only one able to flip the switch on their final plan in season 5 because they’re so dang good at just disappearing all the time.

K Cianci

I, also, am very glad you've avoided spoilers. That gobsmack alone was worth several months' pledges.

JHB

I'm just waiting for when Mosco gets to Actual Drunk Adora, not First-Ones-infected-tech "drunk" Adora. You know what else she never experienced in the Horde? Hangovers.

JHB

Glimmer did indeed let DT escape by looking at Glimmer's face when she heard the news at first I took it as she was irritated or not shocked like a "now what" look however DT said they are great at escaping when we first met them (Catra putting handcuffs on them or rather "herself")

Catradora fan

Yeah I just realised that, I'm used to binging this show and forgot when the scene happens 😂

Luke Teasdale

That hasn't actually happened this episode and it wasn't clear to me that she's gotten that far yet (I could be wrong).

Rufus May

What I think a lot of people, are assuming, is that because Mosco dislikes catra she isn't paying attention to her part of the story. (which is absolutely not true)

Luke Teasdale

Luke Teasdale

I don't think I explained my perspective accurately last time. You're absolutely correct that it's not right for Catra to treat people the way she's been treating them. I was cheering Scorpia on when she left Catra. And when Adora was done with Catra's shit after the Portal, again I was cheering her on. These are both examples of people leaving a toxic relationship and asserting their boundaries. And it's good and right that they do so. Just like when Kyle, Lonnie and rohellio assert their boundaries with "why are you treating us like this?" in this episode. I was just saying I feel empathy for Catra's broken and traumatised state as well when she feels everyone abandons her, and it's a great scene when she breaks down in tears even though Hordak is announcing their victory. I can feel both things about Catra at the same time. Like you say, she's complicated.

FaerieKim

I still love that they had a spy named "Double Trouble" turn out to be a double-agent, yet still managed to make it a shocking twist reveal.

Squirrel

Although hating on the guards turned out to be wrong this time, it's definitely true that their absence throughout the war is a bit of a letdown in the series as a whole.

Rufus May

I don't think I've seen anyone say that Catra's behaviour is justified, only that it doesn't stem from her being an evil person.

Rufus May

"Well well well if it isn't the consequenes of my own actions"-Catra probably

DoctorAlakazam

Your reaction to DT as a double agent was gold, especially with all the ranting about the guards. As for Catra, people shouldn't be using her past as an excuse for her behavior. I personally thought it was clear this whole season was about deconstructing that. Catra just keeps getting worse; more abusive, more destructive. She hurts others and pushes them away, but she also keeps hurting herself. Just when you think she has to hit rock bottom soon, she rallies and descends further. She's complex and compelling, even sympathetic sometimes, but no, being abused does not give her an excuse for this behavior.

Tammy Ragsdale

In the episode where they caught Double Trouble you asked, “What would you do if you captured DT?” You argued that they were way too dangerous even to keep in prison. Turns out Glimmer agreed, but she decided Double Trouble wasn’t just dangerous to the Rebellion.

Tabatha Cat

the first time I watched this I completely missed the reveal that dt was working for glimmer. I just assumed they escaped and decided they're not on anyone's side and were gonna do whatever they wanted. and I figured they knew about entrapta from ease dripping or that maybe catra told them off screen so now rewatching this is a surprise to me. I must've just completely missed that scene of them reporting back to glimmer or something.

Sam Pamenter

How many times watching this show have I said to myself, “Wow, I didn’t see that one coming!” And yet when it happens, in retrospect it usually makes complete sense. Take this episode for example. My jaw dropped when I saw Glimmer answering Double Trouble’s message. I was astonished and amazed. And yet in retrospect, it makes perfect sense! Double Trouble never had any loyalty to the Horde; they were in it for the money, and to express their talent for acting. And ever since she sent Adora out as bait, Glimmer has been becoming increasingly devious and crafty. By this time, she’s desperate to defeat the Horde by any means necessary no matter how risky. And of course as queen she’s certainly able to afford Double Trouble’s rates. It makes perfect sense she’d take advantage of Double Trouble, but I sure did not see it coming! And respect to Glimmer for keeping the true nature of Double Trouble’s “escape” secret from everyone, including Shadow Weaver. Perhaps we should have suspected something was up when the guard announced Double Trouble had escaped, and she didn’t even blink.

Tabatha Cat

It's OK to simultaneously feel sorry for Catra, and accept that she may need her face introduced to the ground if she ever tries to destabilize the space-time continuum again.

Valerie.Z

I think part of folks trying to convince you about Catra stems from their utter impatience and excitement to see how you feel about her by the end of the show. That said, yes, she's terrible currently. The show does a good job having her very obviously have burned or set aflame every bridge in her life, including viewers' sympathy for her due to everything she's done. And you're too right, her traumas don't justify any of her actions. Anyway, happy concept for a fake spoiler: enjoy next episode where Catra goes to 💫therapy💫 (FINALLY.)

Sero

Season 5 is actually super chill, because the war ends in the next episode. Hordak ends up accidentally blowing himself up along with Catra...and Horde Prime who just happened to walk in at the wrong moment. This is ironically foreshadowed in the first episode, when Catra says she wants to blow something up.

Vilmu

this is partway through the string of 18 or so episodes where it's "I can't wait to see her reaction to the next episode".

Stephen Ray

I rewound that a couple of times. It's a fantastic moment, and your reaction was perfect.

Stephen Ray

Hordak knows how to throw an intervention

Stephen Ray

Double Trouble you little instegater! 😡😡

Catradora fan

Your reactions are HILARIOUS! Man I CANT WAIT to see you react to the next episode! Also, I TOTALLY agree with your opinion on Catra and her behavior. No PTSD or trauma gives you the right to act this awful to others, especially people who were close to you.. And an unpopular opinion, I disliked Catra through most of the show, until she decided to go to church and devote herself to a higher goal

song sl

in fiction, if they tell you a plan it's going to fail, if they don't show you the plan it's going to succeed.... here they didn't even show you that a plan had been planned!

largo778 .

You badmouthing the guards (which rightfully they are useless) when I knew the twist that was coming was SUPER *SUPER* funny r.e. Catra-while I'd never try to say her behaviour would be justified irl I know a lot of people attach themselves and relate to how her abandonment and childhood abuse have given them horrible traits. I don't think folks are as bad as her or treat others in the same way but I mean I get why they get so defensive of her-while it may get to the point where they go *TOO* far and try to act like it means the way she treats others is defensible I can completely understand taking criticisms of Catra personally, especially as fiction is a good way to work through your shit and they could relate a bit too much to what is ostensibly a villain. Be interested to see what you make of season 5 all I'll say

FilmCritMaybe

Man, watching you stew on how it was that Double Trouble could’ve escaped, how useless the guards are, how they knew about Entrapta…it made that reveal and your reaction so very satisfying. 😈 Next time, lots of characters handle lots of emotions in very healthy ways. 🙂

JamJarWorks

Oh my god, your reaction to DT contacting Glimmer! That really made me laugh. Just complete shock XD.

Omegastar

I just want to say how glad *I* am that you avoided spoilers for this show. Your reaction to the Glimmer Twist was GOLD.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

I always love the clever tricksters, DT is the best and they told us their primary motivator when we met them.

Jake Williams

DT's message at the end is definitely one of the show's better "holy shit!" moments. Plenty more to come, though

Frank Wales

And.... it.... just.... doesn't....STOP!

Sekiro

Oh shit thanks

Christopher Bouzas

Yep. Not sure if it was Glimmer's plan or DT's plan or a mixture of both, but it literally emptied the Fright Zone of most of the army, Katra, *and* Hordak, leaving it completely clear for her and Scorpia.

David Johnson

Thats from S3E1 'Price of Power'.
