Google should have, ‘Used in the sentence...’;used one mark in deference to your frustration.

I had never heard of Fire Bringer. That one looks interesting after looking it up. Thanks Mosco, I'll have to pick that novel up to read it. And my wife has that same problem with her accent and the voice programs.

To me single marks are for speech and the quotation marks are for like news articles where you're making a direct quote.
Now to be honest ... this video made me giggle more than it should have.
I donated my HP books but considering they changed the name to Sorcerer's Stone I bet they changed the quotes too lol.

Yeah, it depends on where it was printed. I've had copies from both the UK and from the US. There were actually lots of changes when printed in the US. They even changed words.

Classic, almost a good as your rant while driving. More than anything though, I hope you are in a better place or at least getting there.

As for the quotes, I'm American, and I just take care to follow the rules for each versions of quote marks (period/fullstop in or out of the quote, etc.). As for Google and spelling, try saying the word in context. Say, "pleated dress," or 'plaited hair', or somesuch, and Google will write down what it thinks you said. Btw, you're cute even without being all made up.

LOL! I learned something new today! I thought you were asking about ‘pleat’. Also, while I’m not surprised at Google’s failure to recognize speech in an accent that isn’t American, I’m very disappointed. You’d think that one of the largest data companies in the world would have enough examples to train their speech engines for use in other countries. For the record, Siri didn’t get it, either.

OMG what a nightmare! LOL So, I'm American, never left the country in the 56 years of my life. But I prefer the single quote for literary conversation. I never understood why we use double quote over here. Just seems stupid.

I always hate how google assist talks to you like some sort of idiot. I want a google voice that has the same amount of cynicism that I do.
